[QLD, NSW] Dreamworld Locals Annual Pass $50 (with $50 Voucher, Limit 50,000 Claims) @ Experience Oz

1810
GCSUMMERFUNDS

Full credit to user @great-price in the Village Roadshow deal.

Today QLD state premier Steven Miles announced 50,000 $50 vouchers would be made available to boost tourism on the Gold Coast. Couple that with already discounted tickets to Dreamworld and you've got yourself $50 for a years worth of entry, as well as to White Water World, the SkyPoint Observation deck at Q1 Surfers Paradise, Dreamworlds Happy Halloween event, ice skating entry at Dreamworlds Winterfest event as well as food/bevereage/merchandise discounts.

These are normally valued at $149 online or $159 at the gate.

Enter coupon "GCSUMMERFUNDS" at checkout for $50 off. One use per email and valid for SE QLD residents only. Must travel before March 29th 2024.

Though please note that this website is copping an absolute flogging right now, it took quite some time to manage to get two passes purchased.

Only one discounted ticket purchase per email.

"locals" defined as: Living in Queensland (4000 - 4999) or Northern NSW (2450-2490)

Update as of around 4pm - site has been completely ozbargained. Hopefully back up later today.

Update 5pm - website shall be offline for a few more hours yet. It apparently went down at 2pm QLD, so you may not have received the emailed confirmation if you managed to sneak in after this. I suggest giving it a break tonight and seeing if their system can catch up. Please be patient with the staff on the other end of the phones!

Update Tuesday - shows over folks! Dreamworld annual passes have been pulled. I look forward to sharing the rides with you all. Note the $50 discount is still valid at the time of writing for lots of other really great experiences down the coast. If you didn't receive your tickets via email, please give them a call and they'll easily sort you out. Call centre was getting smashed this morning but I think it's eased up.

Update Friday - WE BACK BABY! Locals annual pass for $50 is available once again!!
jumped the gun - looks like there were only a tiny amount made available today.

Got my passes. Waiting for the "Sorry, we doubled up on discount. We cancelled your passes" email.

    • Nope, this is a legit discount, I've got them before.

  • How do they know if your a local? Planning on going for a trip later during the year to the GC.

    • +3

They check your license on entry when getting your real passes printed.

      • +3

"Real passes" are digital by default now, $5 cost to have a hard pass printed.

    • You must have photo ID with your address on it when presenting the pass each time.

      • +1

Not really. never been checked, on all 4 parks and dreamworld entry.

        • +2

Oh, some of my family members live there are have been asked every time without fail. Perhaps it depends on the day and if busy/quiet? Still, not worth the risk as it's money down the drain if you can't get in.

      • Definitely not on each entry, technically staff are meant to check on first entry but rarely do.

  • +4

I never understood the need to be a 'local' surely you want tourist from other states too

    • +19

Tourists are rich and will go anyway.. it is the locals who already been and would not bother going again if it wasn’t for cheaper passes.
A lot of people (including myself) will get the annual pass and only end up going once or twice.

      • +3

tourist from interstate mostly will pay for flights, accommodation, eating out etc locals will likely drive in pack a lunch drive home - creating almost no economic activity…i personally do not see the point

If this deal was open to all i'd visit GC more im sure lots of families would.

Tourism is about 'making money' this seems like a waste from the Queensland government, trying to buy votes from a government clearly about to lose an election

        • +3

          That is a good point..
but I think people who visit the gold coast from interstate and pay for all expenses associated with that, will also happily pay for regular tickets anyway. $100 discount on theme park ticket will not make a family suddenly decide to visit the gold coast. They were going to visit and likely go the theme parks regardless.

      • +5

This is correct, during a Year 10 business excursion where we learnt of Dreamworlds financials and business tactics they explained it exactly like this. More than 90% of their revenue came from tourists. They won't only pay the full price but buy merchandise and a lot more food than locals.

        • +3

I've always wondered why they don't do like a timed card like arcades that locals might use. Like, buy 24hrs at dreamworld to use over 2 years.

Heading to the beach, done by lunchtime? Maybe we'll hit up a few rides at dreamworld on the way back home, not worth the cost of a full day.
Weather looks a bit dodgy in the morning but clears up? Well I wouldn't pay a full day's fee for 3/4 of a day, but I'll use a few hours on my card!

          • +2

@NigelTufnel: i did something like this yesterday - went to see the laws staying at the southern goldie. because we had yearly passes for DW we went to dreamworld in the morning and the in laws in the afternoon. if we didn't have the passes we would not go

          • @NigelTufnel: I haven't been to any of the theme parks in years now but used to go a lot when I was younger, I'm guessing they haven't felt the need to cater to tourists due to it already being so popular. I agree though this would be ideal and they'd probably make more sales overall and might increase profits as going multiple times means more opportunities to sell merch/food

      • locals are over it

    • +3

Other state tourism never an issue. They just want locals who otherwise have been before to come a lot more and buy overpriced drinks (which I'm a sucker for, being a local)

    • In terms of the gov promo for SE QLD residents only, there’s a QLD state election this year.

  • +1

Great deal! Hoping to get on it but the site has been continually down for the past 2hrs.

    • +1

It was a nightmare. Just loading the Dreamworld page was rough, then adding a ticket. Once in the cart you can do the dance of refreshing until the errors stop.

  • +3

Local means local to GC, QLD, AU or Earth?

    • +5

QLD & Northern NSW. Updated deal.

      • I tried buying from Tweed heads and says nope you have to be located in QLD
Meet the post code requirement of dreamworld but not of the promo

    • or just Coomera ?

  • +1

Man i cant even open a website

  • +6

So tax payers are subsidising Dreamworld?

    • +8

Yep. Just like how tax payers' money was given to this piece of shit park for koala research and it instead ended up being spent on a new roller coaster.

The redirected tax payer money also almost completely covered the fine the park received for killing those poor people. So the park essentially never received any tangible punishment.

      Absolutely disgusting.

Dreamworld rollercoaster was built with $2.7m tagged for koala research, government says

    • +1

And Village Roadshow and many other tourism buisnesses!

      Lets boycott them all! /s

      • +2

Will do, just after I finish boycotting Woolies

      • -3

        Lets boycott them all!

I’ll stick to just the ones who have killed people.

  • +2

They shd have spend some more money on this website :)

    • +14

I don't think we, of all people, can judge them for spending less money on something

    • Something something poor maintenance and training… par for the course I guess (sadly).

  • +3

Currently live in Sydney - recently came back to SEQld for a holiday. Looked into going to Dreamworld but would have cost over $450 just for tickets for 2 adults and 2 kids aged 4 and 5.
I'll not pay such high prices. If these parks just want to cater to the local population that's absolutely their prerogative. I'll just save my money and go to Universal Studios in Osaka instead when I'm in Japan in a few months' time.

    • +1

It’s still $300 for the four of you to go there. Can confirm that the Village Roadshow theme parks here are currently packed full of interstate visitors.

  • How long will this run for?

  • -5

    Three words

    Thunder River Rapids

I'm not even eligible but I'll pass thanks, good luck to the operators but they are in Wonderland land

    • +1

Yeah pure negligence from Dreamworld staff on that day, they had left a young girl who had only just started the job to attend the ride unsupervised. Basically a button was meant to be pressed to stop the conveyor belt which wasn't. I hope whoever was in charge of the training of that young girl got into some seriously trouble and Dreamworld for obviously not staffing correctly so that this never happened.

      • So sad. I haven't been since that horrible day. I have photos with my family on that ride the day before this happened! :(

      • +4

        It's wasn't a training/staffing issue.

        • Cheap ass Dreamworld should have added auto stop to the ride.
        • The gears shouldn't have been exposed.

The ride was an absolute fun classic and one of my favourites from my childhood and I was always glad it was still there every time I went. But the thing was archaic and desperately needed modernising. But can't spend those sweet profits on customer safety can we.

    • +1

Whilst tragic, they are currently partway through a $50 million upgrade. The park would be safer than ever before.

      • -2

The park would be safer than ever before.

Well that's not hard when they've set the bar so low. How anyone would trust them again blows my mind. Plus the ethical concerns of supporting such a shitty business. Some people only care about getting a "bargain".

  • -1

good to see Steve follow in the footsteps of Announceastasia….Announce first, think later.

oh you actually wanted to book something? ehh not our problem

  • +1

I got through and it's didnt ley me apply the coupon saying "another coupon has already been applied". Then it went back to the error pages

    • +1

Same. I'm thinking they are outta stock now :-(

      • +1

Nah I was getting the same message - just keep trying!

      • Don’t think 50k locals would already have claimed this.

    • +1

Just keep trying. It will eventually work.

  • Got my first one well before this deal was posted. Took quite a while to get it to go through then. Then took me over an hour to get a second one for my daughter. Painful but very happy for $50 each two annual passes. Even if we go once that’s worth it enough. And would not have gone otherwise.

  • Has anyone encountered the same issue got credit card charged but no confirmation email?

    • same here

    • I wouldn't stress too much. I think they're struggling to keep up.

    • yeah same

  • +2

    **** the website absolute trash

  • So, family of four need to make an invidual purchases ?

    • yes, each using new email ID, I believe

    • Yes and run the risk of not being able to buy for everyone.

  • I clicked purchase on another deal and got the 502 error. I then got a notification that I'd been charged, but no emails.. What are the chances I actually got the tickets? This was for tropical fruit world

    • yeah me too, got charged twice but no confirmation emails either.

  • Passes obtained. It works, just gotta keep at it!

  • Combine it with a visit to the states latest Cosco ,
for cheap fuel and dodgy rides .

  • I finally got to the payment page and the discount was removed. Now it's $100.00 🙄 Brisbane is included.

    • +1

likely the crap website mine added automatically strangely, keep trying

      • +1

Yes, it automatically added it to mine but after I added my details and hit submit it removed the code 🤦‍♀️ I'm only after one for my daughter so will keep trying. 😊

Got 3 orders in - all charged my card. Got confirmation email and was able to download voucher for first - 2nd and 3rd, no email and got the we’ll be back soon page on confirmation

    • +1

Omg same thing happened to me. Got the first 3 with confirmations. Last one took payment but no confirmation. I called and spoke to them. They said that we should get our last one emailed through tomorrow. You'll need to ring them as they will need your details to process it manually.

      • wait so even though credit card has been charged we need to call them to get it? Surely if card has been charged they have recorded the details or are they / website useless? Also wondering if they can do these over the phone now the website is down?

        • I think the site went down while payment was being processed.

          • @bender12: thanks, how long did it take to get though on the phone?

            • +1

@Irishness: Not long. I waited about 1 min and then it said i was first in queue.

              • +1

@bender12: thanks yes they said that their local agents will call if they don;t have peoples details but if they do they will just send the voucher via email

                • @Irishness: Just got an email with my ticket now. They also called to make sure i received it. Very happy with their service. Hope you get yours soon.

  • We’ll be back soon!

Come on! How soon? I need to pick up my parcel.

    • +1

go for the parcel IT probably gone home for the day

      • Fair. More like IT got stuck and need a break from the server that has never been stress tested before.

        • spoke to them they say they are 'updating the website' and that 'it may be back up tonight or tomorrow morning' yeah don't think they stress tested or were expecting the increased traffic

          • +1

@Irishness: On my way to the AU Post now. Cheers for the info.

  • Can a local buy it for their grandchild, nephew etc who is also a local but are under 18?

    • +1

      I believe so

      • Thank you!

  • +6

Called them and spoke to Lozano who said the site went down at 2pm and the latested ETA is 8pm. You cannot buy over the phone unless you dont want the discount. I said I will wait

    • thx for this info

    • Great thanks for the heads up. I got my first ticket emailed at 1:55pm. "completed" the purchase for my second at 2:06 but never got the email so this timeline absolutely checks out.

      • Got one at 1544 QLD time. Next two charged but didn’t get email

    • Thanks for the info 👍

  • +2
