Dude, you've posted this SIX times in this thread. I think you really need to get over it. I've been using this keyboard for well over a year and it's really not that bad of an issue.

        • -1

Have you experienced the pain? I've owned 3 of these (original, mini and S) and they are all a joke..

Did you watch the video above?

          • @matt-ozb: OMG… You're still going on about this? I own two. It's a complete non issue unless you spend all your time sitting in pitch black darkness. I don't need to always look at my keyboard when I type and when I do, the keyboard backlight generally comes on for me (or the keyboard is illuminated by the light of the screen).

          • @matt-ozb: Doesn't mean you need to repeat yourself six times. I also own two; a non-issue for me.

            • -1

@kerfuffle: just replying the comments and trying to be helpful. not everyone reads every comment.

              • @matt-ozb: Repeating yourself six times is far from helpful; it's annoying, irritating and spammy.

  • Is using the USB dongle still needed if FileVault is used (to enter the password to the login screen after a fresh boot)?

    • +1

From the bottom of this page https://www.logitech.com/en-au/products/keyboards/mx-keys-ma…

      ATTENTION: FILEVAULT
FileVault is an encryption system available on some Mac computers. When enabled, it might prevent Bluetooth® devices from connecting with your computer if you have not yet logged in. If you have FileVault enabled, we recommend using the provided USB receiver to use your keyboard.

      • It states:

it might prevent Bluetooth® devices from connecting with your computer

Hoping to get some feedback from owners of this keyboard. There are people claiming they managed to get some 3rd party bluetooth keyboards to work with FileVault.

        • I am using this keyboard via Bluetooth, and have FileVault enabled on my MacBook Pro. I haven't had any issues so far.

          • @bio: This backs up my belief that this definitely was an issue but they fixed it a year-and-a-bit ago. So unless you're running an old version of macOS you should be good. I remember when they fixed this issue and I was delighted. Amazon should return it if the issue persists.

Any deals to get similar price for Windows keyboard?

    • Its just a keyboard the difference is just the printing on the start/command keys.

  • +2

Having bought this (without the number pad) I quickly realised Touch ID was the feature I needed.

    • For me its the touch pad, one thing can't live without

  • Does anyone know if this keyboard can be used in a wired mode or only wireless (meaning that wired is just for charging)?

    • Wireless only, wired for charging only as far as I knew.

    • +1

I've got the mini version and yes it can still be used while plugged in to charge.

    • +1

Have never tested, but haven't ever really had the need to - lasts a fairly long time without charging and charges pretty quickly, so I don't really see the need to permanently clutter up my desk with cables.

      • Thanks for the responses. Sorry one more question, can this be used without the USB dongle when connected to a MacBook?

        • If it’s got Bluetooth, of course. We’ve bought these for everyone with MacBooks at work and they are amazing.

          • @blaze: Doo you mean it can be used without having to plugin the USB dongle?

          • -1

@blaze: the backlight is definitely the opposite of amazing .. I have tried MX Keys, MX Keys S, MX Keys Mini and sold very quickly ..

            https://www.youtube.com/shorts/MmcniX-kTQg

            • @matt-ozb: Meh, not a huge issue unless you're sitting in pitch black darkness and really need to see keys to type (but I reckon most of us can touch type these days). The sensor works well enough. I can't really think of a situation where I've found the backlight to be an issue in the 1+ years I've been using it.

  • +1

What's so good about it? Genuinely curious! Is it because it locks up in the evening so it's better? Not gonna lie, my wireless does not and very annoying!

    • +1

Connects 1-3 devices - dedicated button for each to switch

      • You mean like a USB mouse? Phone?

        I meant light up.

I guess that makes it more valuable because it has the inputs

        • You can connect three computers / iPads / etc

      • +2

It is fantastic for that. I can use it for my work laptop then switch over to the home PC or personal laptop without needing to fiddle with pairing each time. Just a single key press.

      • heaps of keyboards offer this functionality … and even some with a backlight that actually work without frustration …
        https://www.youtube.com/shorts/MmcniX-kTQg

        • Cool. What are they then?

    • +4

Features aside, it's one of the nicest non-mechanical keyboards around in terms of feel.

$99 delivered from ebay seller with StudentBeans. - $109 with coupon SAVJAN24 if you don’t have StudentBeans

Slightly cheaper here but only one left.

      Thank you sir!

  • Got a shift key stuck without any damage. Advised to go to repairer…

    • Had a MX Craft before, same key mechanism as MX Keys, the shift key popped out, couldn't put it back.

Luckily bought it from OW, took it back they replaced it with a MX Keys and refunded the price difference (even price beat MX Keys).

So I prefer OW when there is a choice.

  • Is this one very different from MX Keys S?

    • almost no difference.

      • Thanks. I will then pull the trigger for this. ;)

        • either version is really bad … both are impossible to use in any darkness due to the messed-up backlight.

I've owned both and sold both. hopeless.

have fun with a google for the mx keys backlight.

          https://www.youtube.com/shorts/MmcniX-kTQg

    • +1

MX Keys S use the Bolts dongle - a newer one. This one use the old Unified dongle not compatible with newer models using Bolts dongle, such as MX Master S mouse.

      • Gotta go with the new bolts dongle

  • Is this mechanical? or just standard?

    • +4

Scissor-switch. So same tech as most laptop keyboards (but better quality than most).

Feels a lot like early 2010s iMac & Macbook Pro keyboards (more travel than recent ones).

  • +2

Once you go mechanical you won't turn back.

    • +2

I just got my first one, a keychron k10 pro, last week and it is so good! (a little loud though, annoys the wife sometimes, even with the quieter switches)

  • If it support Logi Bolt…
    Why don't renewal like a k380s?
    Business combo is too expensive.

  • +1

    Two questions I have:
    1. MX Keys for Mac - metal / MX Keys S - plastic?
    2. Can you use MX Keys for Mac without issues on PC, especially if you’re a heavy Excel user?
    Thanks

  • Anyone had a chance to compare this to the Satechi X3?

  • I was able to price match at Harvey Norman, they also have some incredible sales on at the moment I was able to pick-up $199 earphones for $10, they have smart lights and all that on sale too, highly recommend going for a stroll at your local harvey, none of this clearance stock is online.

    Sticker Price
    Goodies
    Receipt

Yes I know Harvery Normal bla bla, but I had a GC left over from the Boxing Day sale, so I needed to use it within 30-days.

    1. Do not expect to use this keyboard in a dark room - the backlight on the MX Keys and MX Keys S is a disaster.

    2. Google 'mx keys backlight' before you buy this keyboard to understand just how frustrating it will be.

I have owned and sold .. MX Keys, MX Keys S, MX Keys Mini

Here is a great example …

Why do you feel the need to leave five similar comments and the same YouTube link regarding your dissatisfaction of the keyboard’s backlight in the same post?

We get you but there are also many people rave about this keyboard.

  • +2

Have the mini version of this keyboard at home and really like it. Would recommend for those who want to upgrade their work from home set up.

  • Great keyboard, I went from a mechanical to the windows version of this due to needing to reduce my noise at night and it works a treat, feels great to type on. Backlight can be an issue sometimes but I touch type so doesn't usually bother me

  • Showing as $148.50 for me now, and mWave option is the mini version?

  • Available again

    Available again

    • -1

Oh no .. please don't buy this frustrating keyboard. That illumination will be the death of you.
