Here is the formula breakdown of the Aldi Ombra face sunscreen and the Hamilton Everyday face 2023 formulas. Note that ingredients after the sunscreen filters are sorted by alphabetical order, not concentration. You can see that the formulas are almost identical, except for the iron oxides added to Hamilton, which gives it the slight tint. Aldi sunscreen still wins in terms of value for money (price/ml) but it may be sold out by now since it only comes out once a year.

  • Do you recommend this over the usual spf cult classics?

      I'd argue that this sunscreen one of the best on the Australian market - quite a few threads have been posted about it on the r/AusSkincare subreddit - see this discussion for example.

      It was recently formulated and I haven't tried the new formula, but from comments it seems to have the same feel and finish.

      See also my ingredients comparison table in the description above - very similar to the Aldi one but has iron oxides which will give it a very slight tint that blends away on most people.

        this stuff is great, thanks for the recommendations.

      • Damn, just after I bought 2 new face sunscreen lotions from Bondi Sands… will have to give Hamilton a go next time!

    • Our company once called in a guest speaker to talk about skin care and protection. The lady recommended below brands for the best protection.
      * Neutrogena Ultra Sheer
      * La Roche-Posay

        All sunscreens in Australia are regulated by the TGA. The "protection" is specified by the SPF on the label - just pick something with SPF50+

        But of course there are preferences to formulas and textures, and that's a different story.

    Joined the bandwagon on this and it dried my skin. (The new formulation). So just be mindful—doesnt work for everyone.

    • +1

      Sorry to hear that. I think those with normal-oily skin tend to prefer this. Those with dry skin will still need to apply moisturiser underneath.

    Best sunscreen imo is the Biore UV Aqua Rich Watery Essence.

    • Couldn't agree more ! My son just got back from Japan and he stocked up on this. :)

  • Can i fill the small tube with the big pump?

  • What's the texture like compared to aldi?

    • Haven't tried either new 2023 formulas. But based on the ingredients list (see table in desc) I'd expect them to be very much the same.

  • I know nothing about sunscreen (I'm a guy) I have this from the last deal and it's good. It keeps my face feeling moisturised and you can't even tell I have any on.

  • I use Nivea Q10 which has inbuilt SPF30.

    Can I layer this one on top without any issues? Or should I put this one on first and Nivea on top?

    • +1

      There's no harm in layering if you wish, use the strongest sun protection last - i.e. the Hamilton in this case.

      Personally I would want to maximise the benefits of using two products if you're going to use a moisturiser then a high protection sunscreen. I would pick a moisturiser that focuses on other benefits other than sun protection in summer, then save the SPF 30 product for winter when the UV index is lower.
