Android Mini PC UG802 (Dual Core RK3066, 1GB/4GB) USD $56.99 from BuySKU

50

Probably due to competition (ie MK808), UG802 has gone through much price dropping. It's now USD $56.99 on BuySKU, delivered.

  • Rockchip RK3066 CPU @ 1.2GHz (dual core + quad core MALI400)
  • 1GB RAM
  • 4GB Storage
  • Wi-Fi
  • microSD slot

Basically by combining with a remote control (wireless mini-keyboard with USB adapter for example), this Android-based mini PC turns your TV into a smart TV. See more discussions from previous threads here and here.

These have too many issues to recommend. Spend the extra.

    • to get which one?

      • To get a smart TV?

        • a smart tv that can run android apps?

To get the Mk808 costs roughly 10 to 15 dollars more.

I have one of these and I did have issues with wifi but now fixed by using a better power source like the ipad 3 usb charger and installing finless 1.4 rom. Still has video sync issues but finless bob is releasing 1.5 rom anyday now which fixes that problem here is link to rom: http://www.freaktab.com/showthread.php?1661-ug802-Android-mi…

Happy so far but does heat up sometimes when playing heavy 3d games and freezes after long use due to lack of heat sync. my solution was down clock to 1ghz seems to help a lot with heat.

    • Hi Japik, I got one of these from a previous post and yeah I cannot get any decent wifi to work at all! But then I am a NOOB in Android, any chance you can lay it out for me in simple terms please the steps in what to do please, it is most appreciated. Cheers!

Have you changed the usb power adapter? If not find another usb power adapter that is 5v and 2A(sticker on bottom should have the specs) as the one included does not provide enough power. I used Ipad one as its 2.1A and I found that the wifi improved instantly.

After you did that go to settings click on wifi setting and see if your wifi modem/router is visible in the list. If not switch the wifi off then back on again to refresh the search. Once you do see it click on it then enter your password and once you submit it it should authenticate then say connected. If you still cant see the wifi modem/router then try move it closer to the ug802 and see if it picks it up at all.

If it still doesn't work then try install finless rom 1.4 via sd card method from here

        http://video.freaktab.com/?subpath=finless/ug802&filename=ug…

Instructions are included on how to update it.

        Good luck :)

If still not working then this might help but might be complicated as you have to open the device

        • Awesome, thanks for the kind advice Japik, will try this weekend!

  • I got one of these in the previous deal and for the short time it worked it seemed OK, then it just died in the arse. Returning it for a refund but if you can manage to root it and get netflix going on it and fix the wifi issue and get a better power supply (mine made a weird noise when powered) then go for it :)

  • This is not a very good deal, lower spec and many issues with this model, the MK808 was recently posted on OZB, it $60 and has 8GB flash, and a 2A power supply, without the WiFi and heating issues.

  • The Quad core version is suppose to debut next month for around $89 or so:

Thats why theres a lot of price drops on the dual core versions such as this.

  • I just got my Mk808 from Geekbuying. Very cool little device but still haven't got pc driver to work.
Have new firmware to install but might try that finless firmware that japik mentioned

    • How long did you have to wait to receive your item from Geekbuying?
      2 weeks?

      • I ordered from GeekBuying on the 18th and its still processing a week later, Lightake also was very slow to process, but i cancelled that order.

I have a UG802 and its good for what it is. Wi-Fi has had issues but seems stable now. Video / sudio Sync is also OK.
I think with these units that tech is moving so fast that by the time you have ordered and it arrives, another improved model is released.
I can definitely see myself upgrading to another unit within the next few months, all-in-all my impression is that these units offer more options than a smart TV with the propitiatory adware that you are stuck with - so will put the UG802 into the playroom for the kids TV (which is already a Smart TV)

  • I have one. Installed red hat linux on it. Slow but solid.

  • These any good?.. Was thinking of grabbing the Rasberry Pi just for fun.. but didn't end up going through with it.. Im a long term BSD fan… but anything in this price range is probably worth a tinker.

  • I have one of these, and fixed the wifi prob by opening it up and moving the antenna wire outside the case.
Had to cut a small groove to sit the wire thru to be able to close the casing. Have slight issue with audio / video sync ,but my missus had not noticed it until i pointed it out to her, so no big deal.
Got an externally powered usb3 4 port hub so that i could hook up a usb powered external hard drive.
Before getting the powered hub the hard drive continually beeped in an unpowered hub.
    I love my ug802.

  • Will it work with webcam to do skype?

    • Yes. Depends on what webcam you have though.

Personally I brought one from the Lightake deal that was posted a month or two ago, the unit is pretty shit tbh, wish I never purchased it. I'm better off using my A500 and connect it to the TV.

I'd never buy from Lightake again. Stick to geekbuy or similar. If you get a faulty product from Lightake, good luck getting a cent out of them in return! Nice customer service that goes no where.
