Was looking into camera and lens cases as dry cabinet + travel.
These seems to be handy for both purposes while the TrekPak looks amazing.

I’ll never ever buy from CameraPro. Dodgy operators that try to pass off items as other items. If you ever order from them, just check you actually received what you paid for.

That being said, you can get the 1535 with TrekPak for $535 at DigiDirect using code SCHOOL5. George’s will also likely match it - they always do.

    • I could only find the 1525 TrekPak in digidirect $545
      https://www.digidirect.com.au/pelican-1525-air-case-with-tre…
do you have the link for the 1535…?

TrekPak seems not necessary for everyone and it is marked up really high…
But considered the convenience, maybe not bad.
It would be my only case, and if it is wheeled, it helps to move around in area like city that cant be driving.

  • For the tightarses out there, SuperCheap do a decent, similar one for 1/3 the price, or 1/5 this price when on special. No fancy dividers like the Pelican, just pluck-out foam and don't think it's sized for carry-on like I believe OP's may be?

Edit: Didn't realise it's on special now, has been lower before though but typical inflation..

I think you'll find the reason people will pay more for Pelican is:

      1. Quality and after sales support (I got some free pelican cases with broken latches that were being thrown away and pelican sent me out replacements no questions asked)
      2. The overall weight – 'AIR' designation. "The Pelican™ AIR case range offers up to 40% lighter weight than other polymer cases. Pelican™ Air cases lighten the loads of the dedicated professionals across the world who have set out to change the game. Designed to keep air travel luggage weights in mind so you can just relax and enjoy your holiday." Source: carryitcases.com.au
      • If you do a lot of air travel, I can see a slight benefit in saving 4kg. The ToolPro (9.5kg) case also has 3 year warranty. My posted one isn't completely waterproof apparently, but there is a $99 Tactix roller from Bunnings that's almost the exact same dimensions as the posted one that's IP65 rated.

"Quality easily up there with Pelican" - One review of the Tactix.

If you're not travelling by air, it's a bit overkill. But ofcourse a solid and quality case if you're in that situation nonetheless.

Cant argue on it. If most of the time to travel are sailing / driving, possibly will get the ToolPro.
But for me, I just want 1 quality case to handle all, including air, so it is quite handy.

          • @CyrusL: 1 case isn't enough for me.. 😪 I have the ToolPro as a spare and thinking to actually grab the Tactix one for more sensitive stuff as I think it's a very good price considering their other products are actually not that bad either.

I have the Tactix roller and made my own trekpak from YouTube tutorials. Really great value going this way.

The pick and pluck foam is rubbish when you want to pack more into the case. This goes for any brand of case.

          • @lomie: I've seen a long one a few months ago. Did you use thick cardboard and like paperclips to keep them together? I couldn't be bothered making one of those yet..

              • @lomie: Hey, nice write up!

Fairly sure I watched the same video as you. First time I had heard of corflute and I remember it was pricey for what it was so never bothered to do it.. 😅 But yours turned out BANGER! If I remember correctly, the joins are or can get a bit flimsy if you don't look after it as much?

NGL though, when I have some time, I'll definitely get around to trying it now though after your inspiration.

My chicken brains have worked out, one sheet of corflute may be enough though depending on the height of your case? E.g. a 60x40x30 case, going by your setup of 3 across (3x60cm=1.8m), and 4 down(4x40cm=1.6m), would need like 3.4m. And using a 120x90 piece, you could split into 3 pieces of the correct 30cm height, giving you about 3.6m, so some room to spare?

@WasBargain: For the joints, I used split pins at the top and bottom. Also some planning is required for the layout. As it is a roller case, the weight will go onto the left side of the case. So the 2 camera bodies with lens attached are on the left.

Due to the rounded corners and the wheels protruding into the storage volume, I created a narrow compartment for batteries and LED video light. The divider is offset to take the weight of the camera and lens attached.

For the battery compartment, I filled the bottom with the discarded pick and pluck foam so that that's the weight of the camera and long lens and at the same time, pushes the batteries so that it is more accessible.

  • I will never compromise on Pelican cases. Watched airline staff throw my 30kg case with around $16000 worth of gear and my macbook pro in it onto the trolley as we disembarked , no damage at all.
