  • any good deals on 2.5kw?

    • +1

Smallest unit available on the EPP/EDU site is 3.5kW, $1279.20. That'll be a no.

    • No point getting a 2.5kw system since 3.5kw has the same physical dimensions for both units.

    • Mitsubishi Heavy Industries make quality aircons. Its different to normal Mitsubishi. 2kw $857 at Bunnings or the 2.5kw for $989

      https://www.bunnings.com.au/mitsubishi-heavy-industries-2-5k…

      • I saw CHOICE consumer test magazine saying Mitsubishi can be quieter than other brands e.g. Daikin was considered top, but if/when I need to replace my now 23yo Fujitsu 2.5kW split system, I might go for what you say - Mitsu Heavy 2.5kW for under $1000

    • You sure about that? Specs seem to indicate it has reverse cycle and there's no indication anywhere to say it's "cooling only".

      • -1

Unpublished? I guess you weren't too sure.. :)

        • I think it’s just the way Samsung lays out their product page.

    • -2

If running at full for the whole 24hrs…

    • +7

      8kW is the cooling capacity.

The energy consumption will be much less (around 2.5kW I believe).

      • How can that be possible? Wouldn't that violate the laws of thermodynamics?

(Also if it was 2500kw it would be juuust over the limit for a standard outlet)

        • +6

No, it doesn't violate the 2nd law as it is moving the heat, not creating it. This is why they also get called heat pumps. This allows a coefficient of performance of 3 to 5 meaning they can move 3 to 5 times more heat energy than they use in electrical energy. This means they are 3-5 times cheaper to run than any resistive heater.

This doesn't plug into a gpo, but it can still be wired with the same 2.5mm2 TPS as a GPO. They need to be installed by an electrician / fridgie.

I believe 8.0kW is power output. Actual power input should be much less.

    • +4

Input is rated at 2450W (EER is 3.27~ so 2450W x 3.27 =~ 8000W rating) so it should only use up to 50c~ an hour assuming it's somehow running at 100%

      • +1

Just need to travel back in time and find a retailer that charges 20c/kWh

        • +1

It won't be pinned at 100%. Solar makes it cheaper for most or the cheap/free midday power some plans offer.

      • 'up to 50c~ an hour'

if run 10 hours a day during summer heat waves, that could increase your summer electricity bill by up to $5/day x 90 days = $450

        • That's not bad for 3 months if it helps you survive heatwaves.

  • Price is good, I might pitch this to my dad. Is ok for an open plan living area about 150sqm? Long rectangular shape?

  • Not a bad price, was about to go Hisense 7.2kw unit for 1200 from TGGC… still might but will ask TGG if they will price match this (have had luck before with fridge etc)

  • Not sure it's just me but I can't see this on my EPP store anymore. It might be out of stock.

    • Yep. All gone. The 7.0kW is on there ($1,679.20) not as much a discount as the 8.0kW unit.

  • When people buy these units separately like this, who do you generally get to install? Are they installed by electricians? HVAC specialists? Are they generally happy to install an provided unit?

    • AC installers will know how to install it. They will usually subcontract an electrician to run wiring.

The risk with getting someone to install a unit that you supply is if things don't work. Is it the unit's fault or the installation's fault. Whereas if you get someone to supply and install the unit then they're responsible for the whole thing.

    • How much is it to install in a single story nowadays?

      • +2

I've reached out to a few companies, and they quoted me for back-to-back installation - a price range of $700-$900. On top of that, there's an additional cost of $350-$450 for electrical wiring and isolator. However, I found a better deal at Harvey Norman which it starts from $499 and includes electrical.

        • Thank you, much appreciated!

        • I assume that Harvey Norman requires that you buy the air con through them though yes? Like you couldn't just buy this deal and then hire them to install?

    Back in stock

    • Cheers, updated.

      • Can’t checkout. Says an item is out of stock so it has been removed from cart but the items are still in the cart. Anyone know why?

        • +1

Seems like some system issue, Or it could be out of stock again. Try again tomorrow or get the sales to place the order for you, you can go on live chat at 9am

        • +1

i just tried and it’s working now, must be back in stock again

    Thanks OP 👍

  • How does something like this compare to an equivalent MHI. Why are MHI so widely recommended anyway - is it just reliability?

  • -3

Avoid Saumsung like the plague! They are quick to do a sale but can't execute or deliver. There is also no customer service.

    1. Order made 2 months ago (and paid for) via app was only partly delivered.

    2. Samsung informed me that it unilaterally decided to cancel the unfulfilled part of the order. I said no you are not going to do that. I told them I bought over $300 worth of goods and needed the whole bundle to claim GST when I travel this week! They can't just decide not to deliver something because they sold it during one of the campaigns and now regret it!

    3. Customer Service is absolutely non-existent.

    4. Sure, you can get through to someone on the telephone after waiting for 30 minutes and yes they are all very sorry and empathetic with the wait, but they have such an overwhelming volume of calls that basically they spend all day apologising and nothing gets done!

    5. I have spent well over 10 hours trying to get my order from 2 months ago fulfilled!

CONCLUSION: AVOID Samsung like the plague.

7.0kw unit is now $1299 and in stock.

  • Showing out of stock again. However, as above, Samsung has adjusted prices of other units on the EPP.
    As at 25/1/24, units currently in stock;

    GEO+
    8.0kW $1,799.20
    6.8kW $1,479.20
    5.0kW $1239.20
    3.5kW $919.20

    GEO WindFree
    7.0kW $1299.35
    5.0kW $1104.35

    Airise WindFree
    8.0kW $2039.20
    7.0kW $1639.20
    5.0kW $1479.20
    3.5kW $1239.20

  • $1299 for the 7kw is pretty good price. Should be enough for my house

  • And back in stock once more.

  • I ordered two units and ended up receiving two inside units and one outside unit. (GEO WindFree 7.0kW $1299.35)

When I raised this with Samsung, they claimed that the delivery guys used the same photos for both deliveries (they aren't able to visually and make a commonsense response to this and see they're identical photos for both deliveries and it shows 3 boxes not 4, but anyway now they are accusing me of stealing a unit.

I've had to dispute this with Amex. So, if you're getting these delivered, be cautious as there's only ONE paid item line per unit and the outdoor unit is labeled as "Free." Just a friendly warning to double-check your delivery and don't let them deliver it if it isn't correct.

(I was asleep and it was left at the door)

    • Oh sheeet. Have you tried escalating to a manager at Samsung's head office in Homebush?

  • I only needed a non-smart A/C, as it is not a home use case. Am I overpaying for Samsung's smartness if I buy this?

    • Ignoring the smarts (wifi, AI etc.), you're probably not going to find a decent quality 8kW system cheaper, unless you look at elcheapo Chinese stuff.

  • In stock again.
