Stainless Steel Cheese Slicer $0.50 + Delivery ($0 with OnePass/ C&C/ in-Store/ $65 Order) @ Kmart

780

Cheese slicer for fifty cents (free delivery with One Pass) on clearance down from $5.

These reviews really sold it for me:

I bought it as a joke present, but it's come in super useful.

Exactly what I need.

Christmas present.

Good.

But Arthur was critical:

Could be better made. Should be sharper.

My guess is Arthur doesn’t Ozbargain and didn’t get it for 50c.

I just buy slices cheese. Though it's always a bit plasticy. Should probably stop eating cheese anyway.

    • +2

You should stop buying plastic cheese

      • +4

Better than the Stainless Steel cheese this is meant for.

    • +2

They're the individually wrapped ones that are plasticy. Try something like this instead, less plastic all around: https://www.woolworths.com.au/shop/productdetails/69369/bega…

      • Yeah that's what I buy. I tried the Aldi version but the slices stick and fall apart.

        • +1

          Must not be plasticy enough

    • Buying a block and using the slicer is cheaper (which seems to be important to a few people around here). These are actually great (or should I say grate). If you get the 500g block from Aldi you can cut the packet open on the short side, the width of the slicer allows you to slice nice rectangles off and close the packet with one of those food sealing clips like ikea bevara. Having said that, it’s only $2/kg more for the presliced at Aldi.

Don't they use Australia post who pass by your house every day anyway?

My latest Catch parcel came from GoPeople (basically Uber for couriers). It was certainly an interesting approach.

    • +1

      they use CouriersPlease as well

I genuinely think reviews should have to show price paid because of course someone’s opinion on a product will change / the value for money element is extremely different at 50c v $5.

bought 2 a week ago. First one, handle broke on second slice, 2nd is ok, but only ok… Price is what it is for a reason.

Do yourself a favour and get a wire type slicer that will actually do a good job and be easy to use.

    e.g. https://www.amazon.com.au/Avanti-Thick-Cheese-Slicer-Asst/dp…

      • Yes, something like that.

    • Yep, that style works pretty well in my opinion.

Although eventually the wire generally does break/pull out from the end. (At least in the cheap ones I've gotten from supermarkets anyway.)

    • Does anyone know where to get wire for this type (one that allows replacement)?

      • +1

There's this type that has a roller and comes with replacement wires in the box.

        https://www.amazon.com.au/KITCHENDAO-Adjustable-Replaceable-…

I did buy one similar previously but found the plastic handles ones mentioned above work better for me.

        • Thanks - I just need the wire though as I have a metal one, like the plastic handle ones, that allows the wire to be replaced. I bought it after I had a few of the plastic ones break but didn’t think getting the replacement wire would be so hard!

    50c slicer $90 French cheese

  • +3

I just use those tomato knives from Victorinox, cuts through everything.

    • I cut quite deeply into my finger the other day with one of these, not even kidding. Rummaging in the cutlery drawer turned into an exciting and unplanned adventure.
Pretty sure it would work on cheese too.

$1 for the stainless steel pizza cutter as well

    https://www.kmart.com.au/product/stainless-steel-pizza-cutte…

  • Arrived today and its not great. Not quite wide enough for a normal 1kg block of cheese and tbh cutting with a knife is just easier. For 50c it was worth a shot.

  • Not worth 50c. Oh well.
