    • Boost 12 month plan = Deficit

  • +19

This plan has download speeds throttled to 150Mbps just like Boost.

    • +7

      Ouch OP

      • +13

seriously wtf do you need anything near 150Mbps on a mobile?

Although Tony & Malcolm said 25Mbps is more then you'll ever need. who am I to disagree with the two greatest PM's this country has ever had?

    • -7

Would love to see where that’s written, because I couldn’t find it anywhere. Hard to imagine them capping their premium service.

Click the link, then read 3rd paragraph of the description:

        Telstra $320 12-month plan
165 GB base data+ 55 GB Bonus if Activated before 29-01-2024 on Australia’s best 4G and 5G networks
150Mbps download speed cap on 4G and 5G

        • -3

I think that’s a copy pasta from the boost sims they sell. There’s nothing about it on the Telstra website.

      • +12

I can testify that as I’m using it, it is definitely capped at 150MBps

        • Thanks for the feedback cloud 9!

          • +1

@miasommers: I'm on a Telstra pre-paid, $325 for 12 months, with 165GB, and I just pulled 358/69 with Ookla speedtest. With the My Telstra app speedtest, shows 174/67.

            Recharged in July last year.

            • +1

@JarrodRebecchie: The speed cap is a new thing for Boost/Telstra prepaid I believe.

              • +1

@xsacha: Yup pretty sure you need to be in the most expensive month-to-month plans to get uncapped 5G now.

                Really freaking annoying.

      • Even the cheapest postpaid plan has limited speeds. Kinda sucks because it’s not cheap and you want to grt the most out of your 5G phone.

        • +1

Kinda sucks and pretty dumb from a network management perspective. Part of the benefit of faster next-gen wireless speeds is that the transfer gets done sooner and the connection ends, which reduces wireless congestion on the network. Speed limits artificially extends the connection time and increases congestion.

      • It took me literally 60 seconds to go to the Telstra website, find the pre-paid plan, and see the mention of the capped speeds under the plan inclusions dropdown. As far as I am aware, the ONLY benefit of having the Telstra premium is the eSIM. That might be a selling point for some, so still a noteworthy deal. The renewal rate though is a little "oooof".

    • +1

However, more data compared to current similarly priced Boost Plan and also eSIM functionality.

      • +1

How do Boost still not have eSim..!

        • QR codes hard.

          Plastic waste in landfill good.

  • Can existing boost customer port in?

    • +1

I did. No problem. Fwiw these sims arrived the next day for me in Sydney.

  • +1

Need something in March. Hopefully there's something similar then 🤔

  • OOS ALREADY! 25mins after posting lol was at best a mediocre deal if they did have sufficient stock lol

  • Oos already!

  • damm must have had 5 in stock

  • +2

150Mbps download speed cap on 4G and 5G

  • Damn missed it too

  • Sorry what’s the negative reference to boost? Speed throttling?

    • Boost recently added speed throttling but it's because Telstra did. They are still the same.

      • Ok same shit different smell oh wells whatever

  • Boooo

  • Needs eSIM for smart watches

    • Activate the sim normally then covert to eSIM? It’s easy as.

      • Assume ur referring to a separate service on the watch or can one number be used on phone and watch?

        • It was separate when I was using Telstra post paid plan with my Apple Watch. I suspect it would be the same now?

  • Woulda grabbed if not with boost already

  • is it already OOS?

  • Why boost can give free unlimited international call but telstra cant?

    • +1

They can. They just not to. It's called business. They offer a product and if it doesn't suit, you can try a different business.

    The seller website looks sketchy

    • +2

Seller been posting since 2020 (got a few from them before, no issues).

    • Used this seller a no. of times. No issues. Last time bundled 4 cards and sent express post at no extra cost.

  • Back in stock, 7 left

  • Bought one. Said one in stock before. Now OOS again.

  • Just sure it gets to you on time 29th is cutting it close

  • +1

    Dang OOS again

  • Run out of data, is the e-sim instantly activated?

  • Can I buy and activate straight away

  • I’ve been watching these deals a fair bit, waiting to switch from an old legacy plan I’m on that costs $19.90 on the Optus network with 22GB

Should I switch? Apart from being on the Telstra network and 5G any other perks? The cost is often more per year and less data per month.

    • +2

No. Especially if you have the free roaming.
The deals also get worse every year

    • +1

That's a good deal. I'd stay with it unless I want the Telstra coverage.

    • +1

      Thanks @Kanjus and @Schrodinger

  • Genuine question, do people really use so much data on their mobile device?

Or is it possible to make it replace the Nbn with this?

    • 230GB is not what you get monthly.
This is a total of data for one year.

      • +1

I'm pretty sure my family don't use more than 200gb in the whole year lol

        • Somehow, we use close to that a month. Personally I use around 30/month now I've moved out so can't really justify the cost of an NBN connection. So phone data does it for me.

  • Is there a way to use this as a cheap recharge if you’re already on Telstra Prepaid?

    • Port out then port back in.

  • OOS again

  • +1

Telstra direct deal not as good but link here if you missed out $320 SIM now $280 https://www.telstra.com.au/mobile-phones/prepaid-mobiles/off…

  • There's a few back in stock right now, just managed to order one

  • 6 left, got one.

While I’m just chilling with my felix 20mbps unlimited

    • 40*12 = $480 or two of these sim cards
Felix uses Vodafone 4G versus Telstras 5G Network
Felix doesnt have international numbers included

Unlimited data is more of a gimmick in my opinion, I barely use 20GBs of data per month with constant use

      • I forgot to mentioned that im on the old plan which only cost me 35$ and i used 200gb per month due to my job.

  • +1

Another difference between Telstra and Boost yearly packs is the international calling inclusions.

Telstra limits it for 6000 mins (10 hours) for zone 1 countries. Additional smaller limits tiers for zone 2 and other countries. This would be across the plan i.e. for the whole year!

Boost on the other hand, has unlimited calling for zone 1.

I definitely use more than that in a month alone staying in touch with friends and family overseas. I know whatsapp and internet calling are options but the convenience of direct dialling can't be beat.

Combine that with the fact that the 150mbps cap applies on Telstra too, i dont see myself preferring Boost over Telstra anytime soon.

    • +2

Do your math again. 6000 mins is 100 hours which is more than sufficient for many in the age of internet.
