  • Dumb question but would chemist price match?

    • +3

Yes, their policy is "At Chemist Warehouse if you find a cheaper price on the same item at another Australian Retail Store, we will match it and give you 10% off the difference! ". In the past they have argued that they only match chemists and not other retailers but I have found that reminding them of their policy has worked. They may pull the "Kogan is not an Australian retail store" which would be a valid defense.

Edit: "Our price matching policy excludes international orders and offers that are exclusively online".

Rather pay 18 and get 100 Astra blades

    • +2

I was quite a fan of Astra blades. But I can't bring myself to buy Russian at moment.

      • It is surprising how effective modern propoganda is. I have a guy at work who does not buy (well that's what he thinks) Chinese goods and only buys Indian alternatives. Otherwise, he seems an intelligent person which is a bit scary.

        • +1

What's the "modern propoganda" that surprises you, again?

          • -2

@pizzaguy: Have you read what I wrote? I am surprised not at the modern propaganda, I am surprised and scared of its effectiveness.

            • +1

@Musiclover: I asked what propaganda you're talking about.

Is it Australian news about China, like your anectode suggests? Is it Western reporting on the war in Ukraine, American reporting on Russia, like the whole context about Astra blades being Russian suggests? Or is it Russian (Chinese, Indian, Brazillian?) propaganda about the West? Has Astra made some propaganda? Are you just merely amazed at the phenomenon of propaganda?

You're might be more vague than you think.

              • -4

@pizzaguy: Wow, the hypocrisy! The guy said that he does not buy Astra blades becuase they were made in Russia. What kind of propoganda may have affected him? Let's think together… Hmmm… I don't know, it is so vague. It is that propaganda that you hear from every TV and every radio here. I have no doubt a lot of Russian propaganda affects common Australians, but it does not seem to be the case here, for some weird reason.

                • +1

@Musiclover: You don't need any propaganda to start avoiding Russian products.

Enough are the official statements from Russia (a random one I've just found and scanned) that a neighbouring state shouldn't exist, and then conveying "a special operation" without clear signage on tanks, which is all pure fascism that nobody should condone, given the modern history.

                  • -1

@pizzaguy: In the current climate any conflict in the world will be inspired and fuelled by the major powers in order to expand their imperialistic interests in the ultimate fight for resources and markets control which is in the nature of capitalism. It will be very naive to say that neither of the modern countries apart from Russia act aggressively towards other countries. I find it very selective and very in line with the modern trends to pick Russia. As if USA/China/India etc never expanded and never shed blood. It is so ridiculously immature to buy inferior products based on some idealistic thoughts planted in your head.

                    • @Musiclover: Yeah, that's understandable, but we're talking Russia. And there's choice. I understand the frustration that there's less room to boycott eg. American or Aussie products if you disagree with the politics.

And I get the whataboutism, but I don't think it conveys much point in this context.

                      • -2

@pizzaguy: Sure, in the case of Russia it is so easy to boycott (very few products on the market, unless you buy gas, oil or uranium, then you just pretend it is from somewhere else) and gives you a warm and fuzzy feeling about yourself, but it is just so sheepish. It does not achieve anything and does not do anything good to anyone, despite what idealistic illusions some might have. So you either need to buy blades from other "evil agressive country"… Or shave with a sharpened stone.

                        • +2

@Musiclover: It might be little difference, but spreading awarness is also pretty valuable.

I'll be sorting my rubbish half of my life to balance out somebody's single joy flight on a private jet, but at least from my generation on, people will be more aware of the situation.

So instead of saying "what's the point, everything's terrible", it might be worth simply to present your rightful stance.

                          • @pizzaguy: What rightful stance man? You boycott Russia in favour of some other country which is just as bad, at your expense. Please just be honest to yourself. It may sound as a shock at first, but there is no "bad" or "good" countries.

                            • +1

@Musiclover: I mean your rightful stance. No sarcasm here, not looking to deepen arguments.

                              • -1

@pizzaguy: There is no argument here, just a misunderstanding. If you really think that you are doing good to the world by not buying Russian blades… It is hard to help you.

                                • @Musiclover: Ah yes, must be misunderstanding. Enjoy your bubble, whatever it is.

                                  • -1

@pizzaguy: No, you misunderstood me. I understand you quite well. "People always have been and they will always be stupid victims of deceit and self-deception in politics."

                      • @pizzaguy: He's talking about buying Made in India instead of China, not Russia. You might comment on that.

        • what mobile phone, TV & other appliances that guy have? Good luck for him.
I'm not sure if he reads some news about ethnical conflicts, the class system and young girls were treated there?

      • +1

Correct me if I'm wrong but I think as a result of the war, Astras are now made in india I think

      • +3

        Get feather, Japanese.

        Much sharper blades

    • +1

Agreed - this is a rip

  • not great

    • It's really a personal thing. I've tried quite a few and like these ones quite a lot, while I found Astra too aggressive. You need to try a sampler pack and use what works for your face an razor.

  • probs not hey

  • +1

THIS pack of Feather blades are cheaper per blade and arguably the sharpest around

    • +3

Not everyone is looking for the sharpest blade around.
The best option is to get a variety pack and see which works best for you.

I tried around 15 blades and settled on voshkod

      • Can also vary in different razors too. Feathers in my Merkur Futur are too sharp on my usual setting, but Dovo, for example, are perfect. And Feathers are great in some of my other razors. Trial and error

        • Funnily enough I find Feather blades are better suited to my KCG razor than KCG blades

  • +1

So expensive for what isn't a premium blade. $14.40 for a 100 pack of Bics on Amazon.

    • How many for 10? I know plenty of people that 100 blades would last them literally a lifetime (they use roughly one a year…they don't shave often). Buying in smaller quantities is always more expensive per unit item.

    • +2

      Love the bics

  • Not really a deal. 5 pack of Astra Plat on Amazon $1.95 delivered.

  • I'm new to safety razors, I need one for beard shaping. Do you have any recommendations?
    Cheers

  • I bought a bunch of cheap blades from VSHOD a while back to help find my preference, still haven't used them all.

Thought I'd mention it as an option, the other being Beard & Blade, which has already been mentioned.

    http://www.vshod.com/products/razor-blades.html

    • Vshod is a great place.
Horrible website but amazing customer service and prices.
Perfect place to try lots of different blades cheaply

  • Feather for me!

But if you’re settled on these exact Gillette blades, this would be a good price. There’s better out there for cheaper though.

  • Wasn’t a fan of these blades when I tried them. Much prefer Astra. I will give Feather a go next.

  • Just use a multi blade razor, the aldi ones are good.

    • Have you ever used a double edge razor?
Absolute night and day vs a multi blade.
I've convinced multiple people to switch over and the shaving experience has been ten fold

      • yeah, wasted a bunch of money and time on it i'll never get back.

but the worst part of it is people prosthletising it like it's some sort of religious experience

        • Fair enough.

I went through about 15 different blades before I found my ideal shave.
Vintage Gillette adjustable razors and voshkod blades

          Everyone is different though
