  • I thought you always have this 10% off. - when buying online

    • and if you lost your mobile phone, it does not cover ?

    • Hi Dan888, no 1Cover doesn't always have this discount. 1Cover offers a 5% discount when you purchase directly online, however, this is a 10% summer holiday discount that applies even if you're purchasing through their customer service team. The sale ends on 31 January 2024.

    don’t recommend this crowd

tried to get $175 back for an abdominal scan I had overseas, was hit for costs to translate the receipts (a cost that’d exceed the payout)

    • It's quite standard for travel insurance to have an excess of ~$200 when you make a claim which would have also exceeded this cost. Of course, a $200 excess pales in significance when you have medical bills that run into thousands of dollars, if not tens-of-thousands of dollars which is often the case overseas.

      • my mistake, it was €175 (coverage over a period of 18 months)

No cover for covid related cancellations or amendments ! << That's a MUST-HAVE these days…

  • Aus post travel insurance still seems like the winner by a long shot

    • The Aus Post Covermore insurance is similar sort of cover with no covid related cancellation or amendment cover…

(I found Covermore through Medibank Private which does cover for covid cancellations and such was about the same price as Aus Post)

Poor customer service. I was overseas and needed to extend my trip so I sent them an email since their website button to extend the cover was not working. It took me 4 days to get a response from them to get my travel insurance extended. I had to get a travel insurance from another company since they would’ve left uncovered for 3 days.

I'm sorry to hear that you didn't hear back from customer service. Generally, customers can amend their policies themselves online. If they can't, 1Cover's customer service team usually responds within one business day. Please be rest assured that they would never leave a customer uncovered if they had contacted them in advance. They always honour requests retrospectively if a customer contacted them before the expiry of their policy.

scti seems better all around (including value) and most people seem to have good experiences with them

Read their PDS on pre existing medical conditions, I've stopped using them as it doesn't seem reasonable to me. Basically anything you've seen a doctor for or taken medicine for in the past few years is considered a pre existing condition and you have to declare all of them and pay for all of them if you want any cover for preexisting conditions. Makes it a bit unreasonable and expensive to get pre existing conditions covered. If you don't want any preexisting conditions covered then the issue is the broad categorisation of what a preexisting condition is and the risk is you could get denied for seeing a doctor about something years ago that isn't an ongoing issue but they're able to link it to something new. I've had good experience with scti and they cover some things others don't but with the way their PDS is written on pre existing medical conditions it seems like too much of a risk. If they tweaked this to be more reasonable I would go back to them as their cover in other areas is great (eg airline fault cancellations/delays which no other insurer covers as completely)

      • I just did a quote with tick travel and found they covered a pre-existing condition at no cost after answering a few questions. Quote was really cheap also.

  • I've bought from 1cover pretty much every trip over the last decade. I've only claimed once but it was online and easy so thumbs up from me, pricing has always been good but I guess depends who you are and where you're going. I'm happy though.
