Received my 18TB order today. Only got an Auspost sms that it's coming today, they didn't send me a shipment email.

      • When did you order goon?

        • Sunday 1:57AM

          • @GoonSack69: I ordered yesterday, hopefully won't be long until mine ships/arrives.

      • When did you order yours? I ordered mine Monday morning and still nothing. Thanks.

        • I ordered on Sunday at 1:57AM.

  • +1

Ordered on Sunday afternoon and received it by midday today (Tuesday) in Sydney. Looks like it shipped from Silverwater, NSW. I wasn't expecting it to arrive so quickly so I am very happy with this company.

    • Seems like some ppl got theirs delivered quickly. I ordered on Sat and still haven't received it.

  • There is an elephant in the room and everybody seems to be ignoring it!
Someone else asked the same question but nobody answered!

How these people are selling brand new drives with 0 hours used time for 1/3 rrp and half of the price of the cheapest in the market? Appreciate if someone can enlighten me, am I missing something?

    • +4

For starters every store out there would be getting drives under the RRP or how else would they make money? Secondly they're OEM drives, so they're purchased in bulk at a significant discount and the warranty is with the OEM and not Seagate themselves. In this case the warranty will be with the store.

      • Thanks for the explanation mate.
I also emailed East Digital and they replied that the drives are brand new indeed.

        • The listing already says that

  • I'm going to roll the dice with the Seagate Exos 18TB ST18000NM000J Factory Recertified for $283. Have 2 slots left in the Synology NAS and it looks like these will be the last 2 additions to it with all 8 slots filled with a mixture of 16TB WD HC550, Seagate X16 18TB. $15.72/TB is pretty good with the 3 year warranty.

Is the Extended S.M.A.R.T Test enough to check out the drives before I add them to the Storage Pool?

  • I ordered the Seagate 16TB ST16000NM001G on Monday but have not yet received it in the same timeframe as others, Thurs/Fri would still be a great delivery time if I get it before the weekend.

  • Has anyone even got a confirmation email? I paid with Paypal and only got the Paypal receipt. no other emails

    • Found my confirmation and shipping email in Junk so have a look in there.

      • That’s exactly where it was. Thanks

  • What would the OZB Brainstrust recommendation be for 2 x 18tb to go into an office Synology NAS? It will be joining 2 x 18tb WD Reds.

    • I’m also interested in knowing this. Which one is a better drive; Exos or Ultrastar HC550?

      • +2

I would normally say the HC550 over the Exos. However as the HC550 has over 10,000 hours on it, I would personally go for the last 2 on the list.

        • Thanks, I bought 2 Exos 18TB drives.

  • Ordered mine on Monday. Got a confirmation email but nothing about shipping. Paid for express as well. Anyone else in the same boat? Seen earlier comments that there's came in really quick. I have just reached out to their support now so hopefully I will hear from them soon.

    • I ended up finding my confirmation and shipping email in Junk so your shipping email might be there. My order was shipped via express even though I didn't pay for it.

      • Exactly where it was. Also my drives have arrived. Program recommendations to test them before putting in the NAS?

        • That was quick. Fedex International or local delivery?

    • I still haven't received mine. I did message and email them last week and they said "current order volume is quite high, so the processing time is a bit long."

I have been checking my junk email daily because my order confirmation was there originally. Nothing still. R.I.P.

  • Still no shipping email here, looked in junk. Hopefully they show up soon

  • If the shipping email don't come through quick, drive is probably coming via HK/fedex

  • Got my 2 drives today. Quick delivery :)

  • Ordered Monday 2am, haven't gotten it yet (Melbourne).

  • +1

i was one of the first to order on 26th and still havent received item. so i sent them an email to see whats going on and this is what i got back.

"First of all thank you for your purchase!
The ST14000NM001G you purchased on our Shopify website is currently out of stock,
Would you be willing to make up the price difference and replace it with the following model:
ST16000NM001G NEW price difference of USD$20
ST18000NM000J NEW price difference of USD $40
If you are willing to make up for the price difference, you can transfer money directly via sent friend
My PayPal account is: [email protected]。My Payoneer account is also like this。
If you are unwilling to accept a price difference for a new model, we can cancel your order.
We apologize for the confusion caused by this!
    Looking forward to your reply!"

payed the extra USD20 , lets see how long this is going to take.

    • +1

It's a little worrisome that they are selling stock they don't have.

    • +3

Dissapointing you had to contact them and not the other way around letting you know the 14TB is OOS.

Having said that, the offer of an 18TB for extra $40 ie $277 total is pretty nice for a new drive. Not that that excuses poor communication.

Ordered 30 Jan, received today 2 Feb. Do note that the 16TB drive was made in China. My other Exos 16TB were all from Thailand. Let's see if this one is as reliable…

  • Ordered 31/01 and paid for Express shipping (hoping to replace a failed drive in my NAS array sooner rather than later), but am yet to receive shipping confirmation/tracking.

Located regional NSW so not expecting super fast delivery, but was hoping for confirmation it had at least been sent.

    • Can't help but think that they've been overwhelmed with stock running low/out.. Maybe send them an email.

      • Yeah I did, they said the order volume is quite large and it will take some time to get it sent out. 06/02 now and still no shipping confirmation.

  • +1

If you need an order please it over the new few days as it looks like they will be onbreak-

We will have the Spring Festival holiday from 5~18th Feb. During this period, Shipping of some models may be affected We will resume work from 19th Feb,If you have any questions, we will handle them when come back.

  • Ordered Monday;

Sorry, the current order volume is quite high, so the processing time is a bit long.
Please be patient and wait for shipment. Once shipped, we will provide you with a tracking number

  • Seagate 16TB ST16000NM001G- Looks like a rare price drop for once. When post $277, now $271.

  • My order got refunded, and I was one of the first orders to be placed.. 14 TB, very upsetting..

  • For the people who ordered new drives - what was the date of manufacture?

    • June 2021

  • my order also got refunded, been waiting ages for a HDD deal

  • -2

Gotta say I'm not impressed with this vendor, lucky I only bought one to test first.

  • +1

Ordered mine on the 30th, still no shipping confirmation on my order.

    • +1

I ordered mine on the 27th and it only arrived today. Shipped on the 1st and was express post.

      • +1

Exactly the same here. Ordered 27th. Shipped Feb 1st (free shipping). Arrived Melbourne today (5th).

  • I also ordered on the 29th paid for express haven’t heard anything will initiate a chargeback if I don’t receive anything 0/10 service thus far so much for 3-5 days will learn for next time and pay the $100 more for a local drive

    • +1

I was advised by members here to check my spam folder and bam there were my emails from them. I've bought 3 drives from them on 2 seperate occations. No issues

    • +1

I emailed the vendor and received an email asking me to wait.

The original delivery period was 7-15 days, I will give them the full 15 days before I initiate anything, I am very disappointed after so many positive comments about getting it so quickly.

      • Thats a shame. Yeah I havnt waited more than 3 days to get mine. Im in Melbourne. 2 came from bayswater and second order came from NSW

        • I'm in Melbourne and ordered on the 29th, the email reply 2 days ago said it hadn't been sent, which still appears to be the case.

          • @Jimbuscus: What did you order? I was getting the x16 16TB new. Maybe they have a few of them in stock which is why I haven't had an issue

            • @rusty1256: I ordered that same HDD, the email just said they had a lot of orders to get thru.

          • +1

@Jimbuscus: I’m the same boat as you, being told to wait after ordering on Jan 29th. However, with the break in China starting I doubt anything else will happen until after that. Which, I honestly don’t have the patience for.

I’ll wait 15 days and then start the chargeback process.

    • +1

      Sharing my experience so far.

I ordered on 29th also, no communication so I decided to send an email asking what the status was yesterday and the automated response said they were offline Feb 4th to Feb 18th for CNY. Today I got an email with a tracking email, though at the moment it's just the number and not in AusPost system yet.

  • FYI the EXOS 18TB I received are manufactured 2021 but otherwise look good, aside from 2 DOA, but that's just hard drive life.

    • Did you receive any notification about the delivery? How about your shopify account; does it show any information about delivery?
I ordered 2 New 18TB and it just shows “Unfulfilled” in my account.

      • +2

Yes, the Shop app had updated, and I had a tracking number there and on their site.

  • +1

I just received the 16tb hdd

    Payed the extra $20usd upgrade from 14 - 16tb
On 2nd , not bad 4 days turn around delivered

    • Nice. Surprised it seems most drives are coming locally and not shipped from HK.

  • +1

Order arrived today. EXOS drives look brand new other than the older manufacturing date. The used WD had 27k hours on it and ~450TB in reads 😂

    • How about write? Seems like it had been heavily used and maybe has ~100TB left?

      • Write was about 30TB. So mostly reads. Not sure how much "life" it has left but seems to work ok for now.

      • +1

They're rated 550TB per year, not total like an SSD.

  • Just a general question; i have a QNAP NAS running 8x8TB drives. As these drives fail, can I replace them with larger drives and once i have say 8x16TB drives would I be able to rebuild the array to utilise 8x16TB (RAID 5) without losing data?

  • -1

Almost 10 days later, I just got an email claiming its on the way.

I will be running a lot of tests etc, checking that its the same as advertised, bit sour by the whole thing.

    • I ordered 2x Exos X18 18TB drives on 2 Feb.
I was just sending them a message asking about the delivery and before I click on submit I received an email with the tracking number (probably coincidence).
Just wondering how you are going to test the drive(s)?
I have a TrueNAS scale system and these are my first drives.

      • I had two orders as you could only do 2 drives at a time. I have only received a shipping notice for the first one, not the second which has a sequential order number.

        Annoying.

  • On their their eBay store, they have Exos 7e8 'new 0 hours'. DOM in photos is 2018. I'm a bit skeptical. Buy or avoid?

    • -2

That sounds a bit dodgy. There are ways to reflash the SMART data on hdd to make them look like 0 hours even though they have been used.

  • Looking for a large emulation drive for older retro systems such as PS2, PS3, Xbox, Xbox 360. Could I use something like this and have no issues?

    https://east-digital.myshopify.com/products/seagate-st16000n…

Would be after 7200rpm but couldn't see on the page what rpm it is.

  • It took a couple weeks but they have finally arrived, I'm testing the first one and unless I've plugged it in wrong, it might be DOA.

    • You can’t plug it wrong way!

Mine arrived yesterday, installed both on TrueNAS Scale and performed a long SMART test on both. Took ~24 hours and drives are OK with no errors. They also showed 0 use hours when I plugged in (now show over 24 hours).

      • +1

I had several spare SATA ports hanging from the previous addition, didn't double check if it was actually plugged into the motherboard, gotta open it up and double check before I know for sure.

      • SATA ports are pretty damn fragile though, so it wouldn't surprise me if someone accidentally plugged one in the wrong way if the little plastic tab thing was worn down enough.

  • I hope I can mix my ironwolfs with this model

  • Anyone had any experience with warranty on these? i bought a 14TB seagate Barracuda Pro through the website as part of this deal, and it seems DOA (windows sees it, can't do anything with it.. Seatools doesn't show any SMART, and wont perform any testing/erase functions as they fail or show as not supported) - sent them off an email so see what they say, but would be keen on any positive/negative experience to set my expectations accordingly.

    • Received 2/8 DOA drives on 6 Feb. Mailed them back on 8 Feb. Arrived at their PO Box 13 Feb. It's now 20 Feb and they haven't picked them up or shipped replacements yet. They were closed over CNY but were meant to reopen yesterday, and I did receive a follow up email today so maybe (hopefully) they're about to do something.

Maybe it'll go faster for you now that they're reopen.

      • +2

Just noting my 2 DOA drives were replaced okay.

  • +1

14TB Factory Recertified 0 hour back in stock at $206 but only 1 year warranty as opposed to 3 year with them.

  • +1

Got the recertified disclaimer/confirmation email on Mon 19th for my order placed on 10th Feb during their hiatus.
Shipped on 20th and arrived Melbourne to my door today (22nd) via Aus Post Express. Foam packed very well and in sealed static bags.

Plugged em in and so far so good - just about the expected noise levels from EXOs

  • +1

Bought 2 x EXOS on Thursday full well expecting them to take a week or 2 shipped from HK. Pleasently suprised to find out its being shipped from Sydney

  • +1

    27th of Feb —- Ordered 2 New Seagate 16TB ST16000NM001G Exos X16 512e 6Gb 3.5 SATA for 273 each.

Will post updates under this comm

    • Quite unbelievable, my exos drives were delivered to my door today, the 28th of Feb so it took less than 2 days. Auspost delivered them from Caringbah facility. Even tho they are new will run some tests and post updates.

      Super satisfied so far.

  • +1

I bought an 18tb Exos on 19th Feb standard shipping and it was fulfilled from Sydney and arrived by 23rd Feb. Packaged so well. Just finished an Unraid preclear and there were no issues with the disk based on SMART tests. Just bought a second drive.

    • Was that a Factory Recertifited 18TB Exos or a New 18TB Exos as I'm looking at picking up their Factory Recertified 18TB 0 Hour drives.

  • +1

    Just bought a 14tb for $208

    • Aaaaand it's DOA

  • +1

Just bought the 14TB EXOS for $207, can anyone recommend an enclosure that I can use this as a portable drive?

  • Ordered 2x14TB this week and both DOA :(

    • That's not good to hear. Will definitely put mine through a full test before adding to my NAS.

They sending you new ones or refund?

      • Their reply:

Please return the HDD to the following address by AU POST, We will give you a replacement when we get your return!

with a VIC address to post it to.

Previously I bought a 16TB and 18TB - both are still running no problems.

All the drives are factory re-certified btw

  • Ordered 4 x 12TB and two were DOA :(

They arrived in less than a week via FedEx, packaged very well and the box looked mint so it's a bit surprising to have two failures.

Checked the warranty status on Seagate and they all had about 3 to 6 months left on them but Seagate blocked the RMA on them, I'm assuming due to the country of origin.

I emailed [email protected] and got a prompt reply and was told to send to a PO Box in Victoria so fingers crossed.

    • +1

Drives were replaced after a few weeks and now I have all 8 working.

  • +1

Anyone have DOA new drives or is it just the recertified that people are having issues with.

    • +2

2/8 new drives had failed. Replacements were okay.

  • I'm looking at buying 12 drives, what are the chances they will be fine? I see quite a few people reporting DOA drives.

    • +1

The chances are high. There are around 8000 clicks on this post and only a handful of people had DOA drives. I know not all of these clicks mean an actual purchase but even if we assume 1000 people have bought drives through this post the rate of failure is around 1%.
