    Only Melbourne and Sydney ;(

  • +21

I'm enjoying living in Adelaide. We don't have an airport here according to Ozbargain deals D:

    • +6

I'd agree with you, if I didn't live directly under the flight path and close enough to see rivets on the underside of the planes…

    • As it should be. Sincerely, someone who hates living in the most boring state in the country.

  • Sapporo and Chitose, are these two the same airport?

    • +3

For international flights yes. It’s actually called New Chitose

    • +3

I didn't realise that SPK was the group code for Sapporo, and it includes New Chitose Airport in it. Thanks for letting me know. I have replaced Chitose with airfares to Nagoya.

  • +6

Swap Air and China around and you got yourself a deal.

    • +14

I dont know why you are getting downvoted, China Airlines is generally seen as a better airline (4 star vs 3 star skytrax, better reviews on the internet, etc.) and it would also be a more direct flight via Taipei compared to Beijing. I agree it would be a significantly better deal if it was China Airlines.

      • +2

China Airlines also fly from more ports so would be a deal for more people.

    • +3

Was gonna say…doing transit via Beijing makes…no sense. Consider the hours you lose in flight anf on the ground in CN….it's a nah for me. Going via TPE would be a more direct line.

  • Question, are these any cheaper with I Want That Flight than booking direct with the airlines?

Follow up question, if not, then why does OzB allow this referral spam when OP should really be putting in the effort to link to the actual airlines?

    • +1

      allow this referral spam

      Good question

    • +5

They are usually cheaper than directly through the airline because they link to dodgy OTAs which are not worth the saving.

I think ozbargain puts up with it because OP puts in the effort to find the deals and on different days different dodgy OTAs may be cheaper so you can't just link to one I guess.

      • +1

        What's an OTA?

        • Online travel agency

    • +2

      Hi caitsith01,

      • The airline website (airchina.com.au) is displayed as a booking option in our search results. You can book directly with the airline by clicking the links we have posted in this deal. I have added a note about this at the top of the deal.
      • There are cheaper options than buying directly with the airline.
      • It is not possible to link to a particular travel date on the airline website.
  • Anyone actually booked with MyTrip before?

    • +8

Never, the google reviews scared me off they sound horrendous , I book direct with the airline and pay the extra few hundred for peace of mind. These posts usually indicate a discounted price direct as well just not as much

    • +3

Not worth the $60 saving compared to direct through the airline IMO, but to each their own. If everything goes smoothly you won't know the difference, if anything goes wrong you definitely will.

      • +2

Yeah I just had a look at some of the horrible reviews. Stay away!

    • +1

I have 10+ times. and never had a problem. Never had to change a reservation or anything like that though, never had a flight cancelled on me either.

But every ticket I have ever booked through a third party website I always factor into my itinerary having to eat that ticket if anything goes wrong.

    • Yes multiple times including multi leg trips

No problems, I have never had to cancel or change my booking though (seems where most of the problems are found)

  • +4

Looks like about $60 more for booking direct through airline for those wondering. Seems about right, it's usually around 10% to avoid the dodgy OTAs.

  • +13

31 hours travel time each way. I would rather pay a full fare for a direct flight

    • All the I want that flight ‘deals’ have gross stopovers. Surely no one books these.

      • +3

Agreed, especially with ANA $999 with local flights included…

    • +1

      Long layover means no-go.

  • +7

FYI, these flights quality for China's 144 hour visa free transit policy, so you can easily tack on up to six nights' "layover" in Beijing before or after going to Japan if you wish, for a minimal additional flight cost to what you see here. Your travel within China is limited to Beijing, Tianjin, and Hebei province, but many sections of the Great Wall are within the allowed travel area, to say nothing of the many attractions within Beijing itself.

For example, the Air China website is letting me fly Melbourne to Beijing on 4/3, fly Beijing to Osaka on 10/3, and then Tokyo to Melbourne on 28/3 (6 hour layover in Beijing), all for $656.

  • Where is Bris? Less and less deals out of bris/gc now.

    • +1

No Air China services out of BNE unfortunately.

  • Why do even the Australian owned travel agencies like AuntBetty and BYOJet have frequent, multiple horror story reviews on product review?

I'm not fussy, I don't need a meal, to pick my own seat, change the booking etc. but how can these companies operate if they're routinely not even securing the ticket in the first place? Especially the ones above that are owned by Flight Center.

I'd love to book but the risk of requiring after sale support considering a 2 hour stopover in China flying on a Chinese airline rings alarm bells.

    • +1

It's sample bias - the only people who leave reviews are the grumpy ones. In fact you'll find the airlines themselves have bad reviews too. Many of the bad reviews are from people who got stuffed trying to get a refund on a non refundable ticket, or filled out details wrong etc.

Fwiw I've booked 4 different international tickets with aunt Betty in the last few months, all foreign carriers and e-tickets all issued within the hour. No problems at all (except trying to use my Amex via PayPal), and even got 2% cashback through topcashback.

    • +3

AuntBetty during Covid was an absolute punishment. They delayed refund for like 6-12 months. Always book directly with airlines is what most people have learned.

  • +4

I'd just like to say Fukuoka is a great city. More relaxed than Tokyo & Osaka, but still 'big enough'. It would be at the top of the list of places to live in Japan.

    • +2

I loved Fukuoka so much. A good gateway to areas of Japan not visited by most tourists.

    • Ramen there is oooofttt
