  • Any deals on 9 GEN PC's

  • Planning on listing any more Philips 32" monitors? :)

    • +2

lol negative. We actually have heaps of curved 34” available at the retail store. We haven’t listed them online as without the original packing they are impossible to ship

      • +2

what is the model of the curved 34” and price?

so they can only be bought at the store for pickup?

        • Ah biscuits
          ACT is in QLD

        • Best suggestion is to ring through and select the retail store. They will be able to assist with what they have left laying around.

      • Oh damn! And double damn on the 34". Absolutely no chance of shipping the 34"?

        • +1

They can ship it, no guarantee it will arrive without damage.

          • +1

@JimB: Only because when they ship the 34" flat screens:

            • they put the cables (and sharp power plugs) on the screen side (at least the stand is put on the other side)
            • they put them in a box that is slightly too short, so the screen ships sitting at an angle, all its weight on one corner- instead of square in the box. One drop on the wrong corner breaks the casing clips and the screen adhesive all the way around the screen.

If they only used a slightly longer box (they buy new ones by the looks of it) and put the cables on the back side, 90% of the problems would be solved even though they only wrap it with bubble wrap.

            • @resisting the urge: Too much hassles and potential problems. They'll still sell each and everyone of them anyway.

  • Yesterday’s deal for the mini PC (USFF?) with similar specs seemed a better buy with the smaller case.

    • -1

Was that one brand new or refurbished as well?

      • +6

You’re not getting these specs new in 2024.

    • +2

Horses for courses; USFF is better for a HTPC or basic box, SFF is better for putting a GPU and/or hard disks into.

    • +2

I do like the smaller form factor, but note that this is probably 20% faster (& 35% higher energy consumption) if that's important.

    @calmango -Please bring this back:

  • I got sidetracked scrolling through your other stock and almost bought some Asus Chromebox cn62, until I caught they had no power supply. That was a shame :( was going to be a fun little hacking project to jam a more featured Linux on them.

  • Bought. This is a really nice deal.

  • Is this suitable to setup as a NAS with a 3.5" 16TB drive?

    • +4

As long as using just one 3.5" HDD is fine with you, then yes.

Just double-check with the seller that the 3.5" bracket and proprietary SATA power cable (it's non-standard) is included. Sometimes refurbished sellers don't include them and fail to mention this in the product description.

      • Thanks for your help!

  • Can these take real tech PciE Ethernet cards?

    • +1

Any PCI-E ethernet card can be installed, but they must be low-profile/half-height. Most network cards should include a low profile bracket in the box, so it's a simple matter of unscrewing the regular bracket and screwing in the low profile one.

Thanks, I have a tiny Lenovo think centre, and it stops at bios throwing error of unauthorised NIC.
Are we saying it won’t happens with this machine?

        • +2

Sorry, I stand corrected, Lenovo unfortunately whitelist hardware to stop people installing anything other than 'approved' hardware. The only way to get around it is to mod the BIOS/UEFI to alter the hardware whitelist.

I've used equivalent SFF and USFF systems from Dell and HP, and they don't do that.

  • Sorry not very techy but it comes with power cable. If i have a monitor and a cable. Do i need to purchase any hardware so i can use this machine? I needed wifi so i need wifi adapter

    • +3

The power supply on this PC is built-in, so you just need an IEC (kettle cord) and you're good to go, but if it includes one in the box, then there's no need to purchase anything extra.

To connect your monitor, you'd need to use a DisplayPort cable which is different from an HDMI cable. If your monitor has HDMI connectors only (this would be unusual) then you would need to buy a DisplayPort to HDMI adaptor/cable.

      • +1

I'm sure it will include a IEC cable. I have about 5 spare ones at home.

If anything, it's more unusual for an used monitor to have DP. The vast majority of older monitors only have HDMI but this isn't a problem.

Just buy an 'active' DP to HDMI adaptor. $10.50 on Amazon.

  • Can anybody recommend a wifi/bluetooth card that will natively work in one of these?

  • Will a standard PCI Wifi card fit into this machine?

    • I suggest using usb one. Easy to setup.
