12GB RAM in the g84 is crazy for a phone of this price.
Really keen on experimenting with Moto at some point.
As far as bang for buck goes, they're hard to beat IMO.

    • +4

      Yeah but crappy cpu

      • +6

        …and camera

        • +5

          And updates

        • +1

Have to agree. I have the Moto G82 with same Snapdragon 695 CPU. The phone freezes for no apparent reason on the odd occasion. Totally unresponsive for like 10 seconds. The camera also sucks. My 2016 Galaxy S7 had a better camera.

If you don't want to buy your Pixel from Gerry (think GST on overseas purchases and JobKeeper), Google Store will take about 3-4 hours to price match for the Pixel 7a.

    • +1

Just checked with Google store, they are happy to bring price down to $648 for Pixel 7a (advertised price at HN) but won’t match daily or hourly deals.

    • Pretty sure if you’re subscribed to Google store subscription thing you can get 10% back in store credit? Just fyi but do ya research !

      • +5

Store credit is inferior to simply paying less, tho

        • Pretty sure you can get it with the discount as well. I previously purchased 3-pack Google nest cam for ~$700 when I price matched a year ago via their online chat, then additionally got the $70 store credit…

  • What are security updates like for motos?

    • I get a security update every couple of months on my Edge 40. Just got the January on this morning.

    • Last Motorola I used (g8+) had really bad software support but it seems like it has gotten alot better in the more recent devices.

    • +4

A repost of my previous comment on updates.

The updates really aren't as bad as some like to make out. Motorola say updates are bi-monthly and that is roughly the case in my experience.

      I have a G82 and the update history so far;
      2 Nov 2022
      3 Nov
      10 Dec
      2 Feb 2023
      25 Feb
      12 May
      29 June
      25 Aug, Android 13.
      26 Aug
      26 Oct
      29 Dec
Due for the next one in Feb based on the history.

Everyone is gonna shit on the moto G84…

it's actually a very good phone. Gcam makes the camera better too!

yeah CPU isn't the fastest but it's fine if you don't game. Battery is 2 days no worries.

3 years of security updates isn't the best but I mean this is 20% the cost of a new iPhone…

    9/10 for the price.

    • The stock camera really that bad? How would it compare to a s21? In terms of app opening speed and capture speed.

    • +1

Ive been using the stock camera app and its been fine but wouldn't mind trying gcam. Which port are you using please.

This is the 50th deal in the last 2 weeks for these phones. I would suggest to check those comments out before purchase

    • Biggest one for me is that mic cut out issue when apps lose focus that seem to affect multiple moto phones. I can see it's been an issue for months but with comments only two weeks old suggesting it's been fixed on some models https://www.reddit.com/r/MotoG/comments/18n1dbl/microphone_s…
Would love to know if someone has the G84 and if they received a Jan update and whether that fixed it

    hello moto

  • +9

haha this phone is definitely in the ozbargain essentials pack!

  • Can anyone who owns the G84 tell me how durable it is/feels?

    • +1

Do own, feels sturdy.. BUT.. shitty glass resistance.. get a screen protector

      • can I ask which protector did you get?

  • How's the G84 vs the G54? Which phone is better?

  • first mobilciti then kjb now hn

theyre really trying to sell you this arent they?

    goodguys mext?

    • -1

It seems they are trying to clear out surplus stock to make way for the newer models otw. I wonder how much lower these prices will go.

      • I feel like $299 could happen but @ $315 mobi and jb seemed to have moved a fair bit of stock so

      • +4

These models are 8 weeks old…

        • what do you mean?

  • +1

Another day, another deal on Motorola phones. What's concerning is that there appears to be unresolved issues with headphone sound quality on the G84 both via aux and bt. Sounding compressed and low volume. Can anyone confirm this?

    • +1

Aux audio user here - no sound quality issues or dropouts to report. Don't use BT though so can't comment on that.

  • Those who already own the g84, did it come with a plastic case?

    • +1

Yes but it's dorky AF and better ones can be bought on eBay/Amazon for $10

  • +1

    france???

    • This is Ozbargain not FranceBargain

  • Happy with G54 :) Using it for last 3 weeks and have no complaints.

    • What about the camera and weight?

      • And the fact that it has a shitty MediaTek SoC.

        • Tell us more about this "shitty MediaTek SoC"

      • Camera is average but does the job. In broad day light, cannot fault it.

        • Budget midrange tech has gone a long way!
Tbh even my 2017 midrange Moto camera is fine in broad daylight.

Just placed order. Showed price at $348. Used code UPLATE. Price shown as $313. Checked out. Checked bank a/c and found $348 debit. Harvey Norman's emailed order confirmation shows $348. Have cancelled order. Should have known better.

    • +4

      Code expired at 9am.

  • 6:57 AEST purchased G84 for $313.20 via PayPal for C&C. Now on back order "Your order is currently delayed. It is estimated to be ready within two weeks." Will see what happens.

    • Got tired of waiting. 1 week and still no update. The online chat lady could not give me an ETA saying its backordered.

Jb hifi is showing its restocked now.

Cancelled Hardly Normal order and ordered from JB with uber delivery and had it in my hands 1 hour later.

  • Any concerns with Motorola owned by a Chinese company known for ties with Chinese govt.?

    • No.

      Why do you ask?

      • Because Chinese tech companies will track your usage and also pass it on to the govt. The reason Huawei been blocked in most countries outside China.

        • +1

Just like American tech companies I guess.

Huawei hasn't been blocked in "most" countries, as you suggest.

  • +1

can't believe I missed another ones

Does the motorole G84 work with Kogan Mobile (Vodafone) since they shutdown 3G network 2 days ago in NSW ?

Its not listed as VOLTE compatible on Vodafone website https://www.vodafone.com.au/support/network/volte?title=tab-… so I'm confused

  • Volte/VoWifi Lebara (Vodafone) works out of the box with G84
