Interesting. These dates are when the Olympic games are on.

$4k was the norm pre Covid. $6k became the new norm post covid, with $10k during surge. It's now trending back down a bit.

    • +2

Return business class was pretty much $6,000 for most air lines pre Covid as well. Don’t know about Cathy Pacific.

      • +3

It used to cost us up to $5k Syd to Hk for work pre Covid , this is an amazing price

        • +1

Yeah it was over $4k Syd to HK when I was going there regularly 15 years ago. $5k for over double the flight length is a great price.

    • +2

      Good for you

    • +4

yeah because santiago is in london

    • Okay

  • +2

Yes settle… Settle back to the norm.

  • thats one decent price!

Always book direct with the Airline.

    • +7

Yep. Looks to be about $400 more to book direct but in the scheme of a trip to London for a couple of weeks that isn't much extra for the peace of mind.

  • Damn interest rates must be hitting hard, I really thought Europe flights would be expensive this year with Olympics, Euro 2024, still some built up covid demand, airplanes grounded due to engines, etc

I somehow magically got bumped once to business class for a 7hr leg from London. In all my backpacking grottiness. It was cool, not bad at all. But I can't picture ever paying for it, even at "only double"

    • +4

yeah i got bumped once to Biz on Swiss flying Geneva to Thailand…. felt amazing, except that i don't remember anything because i slept 12 hours.

  • How long is this deal available for?

    • Until it sells out. If you search for the flights through the Cathay website you can pay $30 to hold the price for 72hrs. Handy if you need to confirm leave or aren't sure if you want to pull the trigger.

    • if you are really interested, use the Cathay site to hold the seats and price for 3 days. I didn't do that last year when I saw their great Europe sale fares in Feb (long story why I didn't do the hold). They went on sale in the afternoon, they were sold out overnight for my dates in Sept….so many going back to China from Australia for their high season in Sept I think….I didn't end up going at all as fares just went stupidly expensive and the main reason I was going changed anyway. I will go in a couple of years, and DO Europe…..and this time go Business, instead of the economy seats I was going to book last year.

Buy 5k business or Vision Pro?

    • +1

Vision Pro in Australia will cost much more

This is a VERY GOOD deal. If you are Qantas Platinum, Platinum One or Chairmans Lounge you can use the excellent Cathay Pacific Wing/Pier First Class Flagship lounges in HKG. In addition to QF F Lounges in SYD/MEL.

Also as a protip for those high tiered FFs, on MEL/SYD/BNE-HKG where the aircraft is operated by a B777-300ER. First Class is available but not sold as First but rather Business. At check in, the Cathay team will assign high tiered FFs into these seats, however the service is still Business.

      thanks for the share!

  • Will these flights earn status points on QFF?

  • I hope they do another for Sep/Oct

    Any deals from Perth OP?

I just tried to book a flight with this deal. It wouldn't go through. Kept saying the airline had rejected the booking. Tried the chat which wasn't helpful. Ended up calling them. They started with something nearly double the advertised price then kept lowering it every time I said no or it's not as cheap as advertised. They even called me back after I hung up to offer a lower price. Really didn't want to let me get off the line.

I'm not sure whether this is a scam or not but their behaviour sure felt like it. So be aware. The price is likely not available and then I'd be worried even if it was.

Good news ending to my saga. Booked via Aunt Betty and even got $150 cashback from cashrewards. Just stay aware from SmartFares.

  • I just tried to log on to this special and the "I want that flight" site said the deal is now ended. Maybe I should try Aunt Betty?
