DAN Cases A4-SFX V4.1 ITX Computer Case (Black or Silver) $229 Delivered @ PC Case Gear

450

Hey all, I'm building up a small ITX system at the moment and spotted this deal. Looks to be an all-time low for the A4-SFX in Australia, with free shipping or pickup. Normal price was $329.

(Discontinued) Black: https://www.pccasegear.com/products/52022/dan-cases-a4-sfx-v…
Silver: https://www.pccasegear.com/products/52023/dan-cases-a4-sfx-v…

Dan himself has stated online that the final production batch of A4-SFX was in 2022, so this might be one of the last chances you'll get to pick one up new in Australia before they eventually sell out.

Still a great little case with a smaller volume than most modern ITX cases and fits 45mm thick, 300mm long GPU's. As far as I can tell the best GPU you can fit are the Inno3D X2 and X3 models which are 42mm thick (dual slot).
Inno3D make these dual slot models from the RTX 4060 right up to the new RTX 4070 Ti Super 16GB which is a lot of power to pack into this case - 10-15% less performance than the RTX 4080.
PNY also make a few models that could fit so shop around.

Alongside a power limited and/or undervolted modern CPU there is no reason you can't build something powerful and still keep temps in check. But do your own research and plan carefully as there are literally millimeters of clearance. I wouldn't cram in a 14900K or 7950X and expect it to behave. My build has a Ryzen 5600X running 45W ECO mode, with Noctua ITX cooler and fan duct it should stay very cool and quiet. Any CPU limited to under 100W should be OK, less is better and there are plenty of 65W options.

If on a tighter budget I noticed the Zalman M2 Mini ITX case was also on sale for $79 down from $199. Offering a little bigger size and subjectively less refined looks but it could be a good option: https://www.pccasegear.com/products/55227/zalman-m2-mini-itx…

I only clicked into this deal to see if you'd commented something about Dan. Wasn't disappointed.

  • Hmm have a silver one on my display cabinet right now should I get the black one too

We actually just started a sff group only for oz/au. Not sure if im gonna be put on a cross for sharing it but look "AuSFF" on fb. Nice case, im running an a4h2o with a 13400 and 4070 and temps are excellent

Thanks mate I will search it up! Keen to get my build done so I'll share some photos when it's all here.

    • Over 10L is still too big for SFFs
      I'm considering X300 or velka3

      • Wait, what? SFF is usually considered below 20L, so how is 10L too big to be considered SFF?

    • Can I be on this group? Thank you!

      • Of course, just search it on fb it's easy to find

        • I couldn't find, sorry.

    • Need a H1v2 friend here.

Can't find the group on Facebook anyway.

Nice case, but I went with the A4 H20 for more GPU options, and a bit more space for my first ever PC build. Running a 4070 dual and 7600 and temps also great.

    • +1

The newer A4 H2O is a great case, certainly the way to go if you want more compatibility with water cooling and GPU options.

It seems the ITX sandwich style cases of today mostly land around the 10 - 12L capacity which offer more options for components and cooling whilst remaining fairly small.

There was also the ZS A4 I had considered at 8.4L. More compatibility with bigger GPU's and case fans but it is a bigger case than the A4-SFX and it was going to cost $330 with a PCIe 4.0 riser + shipping to Australia.

Inno3D are legends for continuing to offer compact performance GPU's. Most other brands have started to exceed the 45mm thick and/or 300mm long limit of the A4-SFX, even on some of the lower end cards like the 4060! They really don't need to all be so big as the latest gens are extremely power efficient. Asus and Gigabyte made a low-profile dual slot 4060 after all, and the 4070 Super is a 220W card that keeps up with the 350W 3090.

  • Saw this case hours after looking into the previous small case deal that was posted here days ago.

My dream is to have a small form factor pc, mostly media based with some gaming (ideally wanted a bluray drive + a 3080 crammed but alas its a dream lol).

    • take a look at silverstone ones might be good for your user case - apart from the 3080, might want to swap to a 4070 with less watt required and smaller size

      • I looked at their older range (this was another covid pandemic project that didn’t get off the ground). Because I had my heart set on a bluray drive (to rip bluray and 4k titles) I'd have to sacrifice the drive itself or maybe make it work with a 3060 or now 4060.

I just like the idea of a SFF pc - easier for me to transpirt from one location to another. For years I'd lug my Fractal R3 desktop (ultra heavy with the 2080ti and multiple mechanical hdds lol) from the computer room to the kitchen when I was going to rip movies. Currently I just use multiple laptops and external bluray drives to do the same thing.

  • I have an older model of this case and I love it.

  • +1

I have the older ~7L case and it's absolutely great.

I do travel a bit (kinda like FIFO, but not really) so >1mo out at a time so I don't need the super portability of a laptop. I just pack my setup and set it up at my new temporary gig. Everything including a portable monitor fits into a shopping bag!

I've got a 3700X (yeah, haven't bothered updating) and a 3070 running in it. Was a bit tough looking for a 3070 that will fit, but Gigabyte does one :D

  • +1

One USB-C port on the front? Not entirely practical.

    • For some people that might be a dealbreaker and I wish it included the option to swap it for a USB-A port like the older models had. But when the case is this small it's probably not on the ground or hard up against a wall so it's easy enough to reach over and pop something in the back ports.

For me that's the odd USB memory drive maybe a couple times a year, not enough to inconvenience me. My phone will use a USB-C to USB-C cable so no worries there.
You could also use a USB hub for easier access and have more "front" ports than even the biggest ATX cases! https://www.pccasegear.com/products/59343/orico-7-port-usb-3…

      • No argument about the option for a USB hub. Kinda defeats the purpose of having a nice case tho!

        • +1

For me actually I prefer no front io at all since I think most of the time they just destroy the aesthetics and design of the case itself. My workaround is that my monitor has built in KVM and lots of ports to be used so I actually don’t care too much about the front io

          • @nelladream: Yeah that's fair @TheOtherBigAl although there are other options in this category that might have more ports if it's a dealbreaker.

That's a good point @nelladream lots of monitors now have built in USB hubs. I forgot mine has two on the underside of the bezel. Some keyboards also have them.
Agree on the aesthetics, the less the better for me and even if it didn't have the front USB-C at all I'd be fine with it.

  • Has anyone here flown with this in their carry-on (e.g. backpack)? I want to downsize my current build from the NR200 and was looking at either this or the FormD T1

    • not sure about this one but I have heard the formd t1 fits perfectly in a camera bag called "vanguard divider 40"

    • +1

I've with a larger (case = K77 approx. 9.2L vs 7.2L) case in the backpack on a number of occasions.
Weight could potentially be an issue depending on who you fly with, I have seen some airlines weighing the carry on, but not something I have had to deal with personally.

      • +1

Agreed, most sub 10L cases should fit in a regular backpack. I've flown several times with an 8.4L case, fits well with space for a 60% keyboard, mouse and cables. It's very easy to go over 7kg with this kind of setup but only Jetstar seems to check these days.

    • +1

Good luck getting a FormD T1 - things may have changed but last I checked they were near impossible to buy… If so that's the way I would go for sure it seems superior in terms of compatibility and cooling. Checkout Optimum's build for this; whilst he packs a 3080Ti in this build I think he eventually crammed a 4080 in and maintained temps quite well…

  • I have the gen 1 case bought back in 2017, eventually transplanted to an H2O. It's great for carry on luggage, but you must really, really need this to deal with the compromises. Cooling options very tight, so you need a CPU that's happy on a low profile fan. GPU options are even worse, with the size inflation of the last couple gens.

    • It's a niche size these days but not too much stress on component choices if you taper your expectations. I cover a few good options in the deal description, you can very easily get a 4070 Ti Super or below in this (Inno3D sell several that fit without mods) and CPU's like the Ryzen 7600 or 7700 should be OK.

  • What is the best tiny tiny itx case to fit a nice CPU cooler and you don't care at all about the GPU ?

I've got an sg13 now. Thinking about front SFX PSU hack to fit big CPU cooler in it.

  • +1

MAX Graphic cards Dual-Slot up to 295 mm length
This is really limited for GPUs

  • +1

I did 3950x + 2080ti in my dan, overclock headroom on both once you get the cooling setup good.

For air, a modern one would handle 7800x3d + 4070ti very well (<60% cpu fan. <40% gpu fan once tuned).

    Or AIO, running 7950x UV / 13700k + 4070ti in a modern one with 645LT (92mm rad, does ~170w).

That's sick mate thanks for sharing, can tell there was lots of work put in to get it how you wanted! Love what you did with the GPU deshroud and Noctua fans, I plan on doing the same with mine. For now just got a cheap 4060 but will probably upgrade to a 4070 Super or Ti later on.

This isn't my primary computer. It fits a few roles and will be replacing a gaming laptop as I'm sick of the lack of upgradability in a laptop and was using my laptop with external monitor already.
Secondary/spare PC I can chuck on a spare desk when family or friends visit. HTPC/casual gaming on the couch if I move it to my TV cabinet. Plex transcoding of existing media storage. And for me to pack up and take to LANs with mates which I have 2-3 times a year.
I know I'll get use out of the portability of it just based on the past few years of owning a gaming laptop, I'm just excited to have something more powerful and quieter :)

  • I desperately need to downsize from O11 air mini (it’s not so mini). Looking for any recent additions to sff cases (i’ve looked into most designs upto last year and hasn’t been much success to my liking)

  • The A4 has been at this price at PCCG for a while. GPUs have trended towards being larger these generations (larger than 2-slot) so this case has become less flexible in accommodating newer GPUs.

    • +1

I've been keeping my eye on it and at least the black one was full price earlier last week and for several weeks before that (whilst I've been planning the build). Might have been on sale a few times and not posted, I recall the silver one was on sale for $239 not too long ago but went back up to full price, and only recently have I noticed the price for both dropped to this. I forgot to post it when the silver was on sale but this is $10 cheaper and in both colours.

Yeah the biggest issue for most is GPU compatibility, especially if you already own a bigger GPU. But if buying new I've mentioned in the deal description there are plentiful new cards right up to the 4070 Ti Super 16GB that will fit without mods if you look at the Inno3D models. And that card will beat everything from last gen whilst keeping power usage and heat down.

      • -1

Yeah I think it was just the silver one that was on sale, so this is definitely a worthy deal post.

If anyone is worried about max GPU size, I managed to fit in a 3 slot ASUS Dual RX 6750 XT with the help of a 3D printed extension:

As I predicted, the black case is now sold out and marked as discontinued on PCCG. Silver is still in stock!

    • Aaaand all gone! Good luck to those who purchased, my build went well and I'm very pleased with it :)
