  • That's… well worth investigating.

Thanks for the heads up OP!

Following - can't bear Superloop "enjoying" my loyalty without rewarding me anymore!

    • +4

Made the switch to exetel last week, about 12 hours of down time unfortunately, I ended Superloop on Wednesday and started Exetel on Thursday (pain given I was WFH)
$59 a month (50/20) for the first 6 months (then back to $77.99), seems to be comparable in speeds with Superloop (should be given basically same company). Not sure why Superloop didn't just retain my business to save me moving to Exetel.
Given the price goes up to $78 a month at month 7, I'll make the move again

      • +7

I think because NBNco subsidise the 6 months discounts.

      • +4

Exetel uses Superloop network too lol

        • Sorry guys I haven't churned in ages.. are there issues with switching to exetel for 6 months, then switching back? Do you have to leave for a minimum time?

          • @Raif: Exetel requires 30 days notice, as long as you are on top of this you are good. I switched from exetel to more few days ago, despite giving them notice was charged additional month after switching, only after putting comment on Google reviews charges were reversed. Make sure to read reviews on Google before you switch.

            • +1

@ablqadir: I avoid companies that do this stupid 30 days thing. It's an obvious attempt to make it the most difficult for their customers to leave if they want, along with the associated billing "mistakes" or money grabs after you leave (Happened to me as well when I left superloop) that seem to happen more often then not…

        • +2

          Exetel is owned by Superloop

      • +1

You can always use 4G hotspot to work from home.

      • Easiest way to cancel Superloop? Do you still need to call them?

        • Definitely call them I got charged an extra month, I thought it would just churn before the end date and that was that, like adsl days :(

          • @atrorz: Yeah I don't think I can auto churn as I'm on FTTP. Read the new ISP will just occupy another port and end up with 2 simultaneous connections.

            • @syx: I’m on fttp too, it churned over on port 1 fine, didn’t have to move the cable but Superloop continued to charge me for 30 days from the day I told them :(

              • @atrorz: Bloody crooks! Did you have any luck getting them to reverse the charges?

      • +1

Every time I ring Exetel to leave they match the other providers discounted price. I’ve been with them for a couple of years now. Currently on 1000/50 for $99 for 6 or 12 months (I can’t remember I think it was 12 months)

      • They are the same company I believe no reason to switch performance wise…

    • I agree, not even willing to upgrade the shitty old My Republic modem to one of their's. (they are unable to connect to the old model modem).

      • Can we use old My Republic modem with this provider? Or we have to buy another modem?

    • I believe we can try price match with SuperLoop.

    • +25

      churners save money

      • +1

If ISPs actually wanted your business, they would offer decent long term discounts.

        • +16

take that up with the rsp's not with the post :P

          • -3

            @memez: Haha ikr, it's a tough gb

          • +1

@memez: Take it up with nbn for offering the 6 month discount to RSPs

    • +2

      It's called the lazy tax

    • +3

so far they are the lowest price after 6 months.
      For example: 50/20 => $70/month.

      Other providers are $75/month.

    • +7

nbn give the RSPs a discount for newly activated customers for 6 months. The way the wholesale element is set up incentivises customers to churn every 6 months.

      • stupid marketing plan i think.
the better way is once you hit 1 year as customer you get 3% off, 3 years 5% off and so on but with a cap of course.

        • To me your idea is terrible. Haha.
Imagine waiting years for any type of discount. Id rather just have what there is now. Getting some type of discount upfront. Whether its first month free, $20 off for 6 months, etc. Our prices are terrible for the speeds we get. We're inline with third world countries internet speeds, but pay so much more than they do. Australian internet speeds and cost is a joke

          • +2

@Whisper Quiet: That's what happens when stupid politicians dictate projects.

Why spend all this money and not do it all with fibre.

      • +11

Everything about the NBN Co is awful. They should be providing a public service, not trying to maximize profit. Prices should be going down over time, while speeds should be going up. In Australia we have 3rd world internet infrastructure with first world prices. New Zealand is miles ahead of us when it comes to internet connectivity.

They should give a permanent discount to lower income households rather than temporary 6 months discounts. I'm tired of the inconvenience of having to constantly "shop around for a better price" on everything. Loyal customers should be rewarded, not ones constantly gaming the system.

        • +2

Yeah the whole NBN debacle is when I truly realized how corrupt politicians actually are, and they're not doing it for the good of the nation.

  • does it has fixed ip or/and NOT behind CGNAT please?

    • +2

It is CGNAT by default but you can ask them to change it

      • It will revert back to CGNAT after a while. You have to keep asking..

        • Really? That's nonsense.

        • You're right about that but for me the "while" was about every six months or when they do some kind of major network upgrade. They'd fix it after I ask them again

    • I can't see any mention of ipv6 support either, which would be an alternative solution to disabling CGNAT.

  • Seems they have no up speed greater than 21.

  • +1

Good find OP, made an enquiry with them.

  • had a quick look at the bgp info and it looks like they are 0 IPv6 addresses, looking at that would say they don't support IPv6. Come on guys it's 2024 not 2012

  • +4

It uses TPG network so its not that good, horrible international routing for example

but if you dont care about then go for it.

    • Tpg is 🐐 for me personally.

      • its fine for general use but causes me some pain accessing certain websited and the ping on playing games on international servers is not the best

Also uses CGNAT so you wont get a static IP unless you pay for it seperately

but like I said not everyone would care about those things

    • +1

Wdym by TPG network? Isn't it all just NBN now which relies on the old Telstra cables but all providers give effectively the same broadband?

      • After sales service (and connection ease), network equipment, tech support skills - all are nought for tpg.

      • +2

no, routing to various servers is done through a couple of the ISPs routes, some like TPG uses very inefficient routes to international websites/links so you may see a degradation of speed in some cases esp if you are streaming anything if the website you visit is hosted in Europe for example

Here's a list of nbn 100 plans I ran across recently. Starting at $64.90 / month for the first 6 months.

I have flip 50/20… its awful

    • +2

Switched to Flip Connect a few months ago on the 50/20 plan. Had to cancel during the cooling off period because it was painfully slow, but they made me chat with their support team who pretty much blamed it on my router. The only variable that had changed was them. Switched to Tangerine the next day and have been happy since!

      • I thought my new superloop FTTP was crap, am on 100/20 and was getting 45/18.
I plugged my laptop directly into the NBN box and got 98/19 so turned out it’s my WiFi router that passes on crap speeds.

  • +3

Flip only have a POP in Sydney, RIP anyone other then Sydney people for a decent ping

    • +2

Ping from perth was never lower then 55ms to anywhere so back to ADSL performance

  • I can't see 1Gbps plan on their website, has anyone else found this? More interested in this speed and to know what they charge.
** Oh ignore, just noticed a single POP in Sydney, that's a pass for me.

  • FWIW I've been with flip for a couple of months now (churned over from Exetel), and it's been exactly the same performance-wise. In fact, I now receive fewer (none) texts/emails about "planned upgrades in your area", whereas with Exetel, I'd get one almost every 2 weeks.

    TLDR; pretty good.

    • +1

I now receive fewer (none) texts/emails about "planned upgrades in your area", whereas with Exetel, I'd get one almost every 2 weeks

I don't think planned upgrades have anything to do with the retailer, just NBN work on the network. So either your network is just not getting as many upgrades (it sounds like you had a lot already), or flip is just not notifying you of the NBN maintenance/upgrades like Exetel was.

      • It's the second one. And it's not like the planned upgrades had any downtime attached to it, I just regularly got emails and SMSs telling me that the sky was blue.

  • +1

Tangerine are doing the same price for 50/20. Any difference between the two?

    • -3

Tangerine is Vocus backbone, Flip Connect has a better blend of upstream providers

    • +2

Tangerine uses POP's all over Australia, Flip has only 1 POP in Sydney, so unless you live there I wouldn't touch this, unless you are okay with high latency.

      • actually just noticed that true not good for people out side of sydney.

      • Thanks all. Will churn to Tangerine (bye Leaptel).

        • Cantact Leaptel and they will extend the Discount price
I did this, Leaptel is best performance / price out of all the ISPs ive used

          • @gingerscale: for how much longer will Leaptel extend the discounted price ?

            • +1

@fan0079: I got 6 months but Im still in that extended 6 months so unsure if it will keep going

  • +1

Can you join six months with superloop and then six months with exetel? Alternate between the two every 6 months. Has anyone done this?
I was with exetel before I switched over to superloop. Can I go back to exetel and get the cheap rate?

    • +1

Yes, they are the same company but different brands, so it's fine.
As long as the terms don't state you aren't considered a new customer unless you haven't been with them for x number of months, 7+ in your case, but that doesn't matter who you are with now, even as an Exetel customer.

  • +1

I survived a week and then switched to Leaptel. The service was so slow that it was unusable. Basic web pages taking an entirety to load. 480p YouTube videos buffering. They are cheap for a reason.

    • -4

      Specify the following details.

What connection do you have? FTTP, FTTN??
      What modem where you using?
What MTU settings were you using?
      Authentication Method PPPoE IPoE?
      Wifi or Lan cable?
Streaming YouTube from TV or PC or Mac?
      On 2.4ghz or 5ghz?

There are so many factors it makes me laugh because most of the time it's the users setup

      • +1

Of course it's users to set up, what are you expecting? Serious question :)

      • +2

Given it seems that they changed providers and it fixed their problems, can you explain how it was user setup that was the problem?

        • -8

because it can't be as bad as they're saying, it's just not possible.

      • +2

Silly take! I've had companies do the run around like this when my hardware has been the same for years. Then you find one that works and your hardware suddenly works perfectly.

    • How’s Leaptel? I am churning from ABB to Superloop for FTTP and if Superloop is no good then I might switch to Leaptel.

      • Leaptel is great. I've churned through many over the years. AussieBB, Belong, Tangerine, FlipTv, Leaptel and now Exetel.

Flip was by far the slowest, felt like dial up days. My brother who lives in a different area also had the same experience.

@memez I even had Flip tech support diagnose the fault and tell me this was the best they could do. I've had no speed issues with any of the providers I've used in the past.

  • Can someone explain why "normal NBN" (i.e. not FTTP/HFC) can't go faster than 100 down?

    • +2

Because there's no such thing as "normal" NBN. It's a mish-mash of technologies, (thanks LNP) and the one that ended up in the footpath in front of your house (excluding satellite, I guess) was determined by a spinning bottle* (probably). Anyway, the reason why you can't get faster than 100 down varies, and factors such as length of cabling to pit, number of units in a complex, what my mother is making for dinner next week, distance from exchange can all play a part.

Mum's taking next week off, btw, so speeds might be slower.

  • +2

I was with flip connect (flip tv at the time). Not a great experience, it kept dripping out, support couldn’t fix the issue so I moved on. Later on I thought I’d try them again but the same issue persisted.

  • +2

Do we have a dedicated nbn page? Would be nice to have a list.

  • +1

I’m now using that Pronto NBN on Ozb a couple of weeks time. It’s surprisingly easy and good speed. Better than Tangerine which I had before strangely. $59 for 100/20

    • Considering changing to Pronto when my Leaptel 6 month discount expires. $59.00 for 100/20 great price

  • It says limitation of 1-3 devices on their basic plan

Is that real limit or just an example of usage. So needs you can connect your tv, phone on wifi and say share tv. Is that it?

    • Just example, I had like 8 devices connected at same time, no issues

      • Thanks for your reply

  • Time to move from Superloop me thinks…

    thanks OP.

  • Exetel discount ended and i forgot to switch they slugged me $84
Is this mob any good? Looking to switch

    • haha me too I switched to Tangerine

  • I just churn between More and Tangerine. No downtime as they're sister companies.
    '

    • Just curious on how do you time the churns so there is no overlap in paid periods or outage?

You buy new one on the last day of the old?

      • +1

You sign up (at least) 2 weeks in advance and during the application process, it will ask when you want to activate service so indicate whatever your desired date is.

        • Makes sense. Thanks. I'm thinking of signing up to tangerine.

  • +1

In terms of modem, they charge $220 with delivery for D-Link DSL-X1852E.
    Would Eero 6 be better?

  • Flip never responded to an email from x3 days ago, not looking good sadly.

  • Their website for finding an address is shite, place my unit number in there and it finds the correct address.. next page shows a different unit number…
