Amazon Kindle $48 at Woolworths Spearwood WA

1440

I bought a Amazon Kindle 4 yesterday from Woolworths in Spearwood WA. The kindle scanned up as $48, the leather case as $13.99, then after scanning my EDR (everyday rewards card) I got a further 10% the whole transaction.

I am not sure if this is elsewhere, how long it is for etc. I just by chance inquired with the kiosk of the price as they are not advertised or displayed.

Big W currently have the same model out on 'Special' for $119.

apologies if I have done this incorrectly - first time poster

    • It's a clearance line, most places won't price match clearance lines. Good luck though if you decide to try!

      • I just asked Bonnyrigg and it's a no-go

  • No Kindles of any kind in stock at either Pakenham or Pakenham Place Woolies. I know for certain one "did" have them at one stage so they have sold out.

    • I have visited 3 shops in Sydney and called about 10, none in any shops, and when asked about if they are coming in getting varying answers, some shops say they've had orders in for 7 weeks that haven't been filled, some say end of line, some say they should come in tomorrow (however the ones that said that yesterday didn't get any)

Anyone know the definitive truth about what's going on? Are they clearing just their own stock for the paperwhites or are they indeed clearing all Aussie stock for Amazon? I'm wondering if I should hold my breath

    • Why didn't you try Koo Wee Rup. They had 6 today. Only 3 when I got there.

      • because I don't have time to drive therefrom Sydney

      • Sorry that comment was aimed at sparkles.

  • Managed to get one at Frankston, but no EDR discount. How are people getting 10% off? I asked but the girl didn't know what I was talking about.

    • Was there any left at Frankston??

      • No 4th Gen left. Karingal has/had one 3g keyboard left yesterday.

  • Thanks for the heads up.

Tried 3 stores yesterday (Carnegie, Chadstone & Ashwood) - no go!

Tried Oakleigh store this morning and managed to buy a Kindle for $48 and the leather cover for $13.99. Have set it up and downloaded over 50 books for my son who is going overseas for a year and wanted his books.
Another lady was in store same time as me buying a second Kindle and cover (had bought one the day before). Think they had 1 more left.

Thanks again for a great deal. Wouldn't mind keeping it for myself!!!!!!

I went to Frankston Vic store this morning…none left and none left around the area…had to go Epping way this afternoon and scored the deal of the century at the Safeway on the corner of West Heidleburg Rd & Banksia Rd…last Kindle (Wifi 3G with keyboard) scanned at $69, they then gave it to me at 50% off that…so got it for $35! Case with light was $20! Happy happy vegemite!

Good job! Great to see someone get a win :)

      Congrats, amberdbrickell.

How did you find out it's available in Epping? That's like 55Km from Frankston!!

      Great OZBargain spirit, BTW!! :)

      • No I had to go that way for an unrelated reason and dropped into the Safeway there and just asked if they had any Kindles left and well the above was the conclusion to what happened!

  • Sydney doesn't have the EDR discount but got a WiFi version for $55.60 (reduced from $139). Most stores have sold out. Cover was $9.60. The check out lady said things are different prices in different states. Anyone else manage to get one in a NSW store? If so, which version?

      Where? Any more there?

Mine has the same title as that displayed on Sally's docket. The box has copyright 2011 Amazon.com in small print on the back. Does anyone know if that means its a third generation? Thanks in advance.

    • If its got keyboard then its 3rd gen.. If not then 4th gen.

  • What kind of covers do they sell at woolworths? Anyone got any brand names or links? Do they come with light or without..

    • +1

      I saw k3 leather, k3 leather w/light an k4 leather, range from $6 to $24 with light

  • +1

None at Indooroopilly, Darra, Kenmore or Mt Ommaney. (QLD)

  • +1

Oh great - no keyboard so it must be 4th gen! Covers are leather and the kindle snaps in. They are kindle brand (genuine, not Belkin etc) without light. Saw similar on a website for around $40.

    • Cheers thanks for that!

    • IMO keyboard version is the best one, but you may never use the extra features if you simply want to read books on it

      • After going through lots of comparisons, I have to agree.. Prefer feel of plastic and keyboard area is a nice large area to hold it by instead of by the frame. Plus keyboard for searching books online, when you need it certainly makes life easier.

  • Kindle 3 vs 4 comparison for those that are wondering..

Good read, but unless I missed it in my skim, they left out the fact that the Kindle Keyboard (3) also has roughly double the storage capacity of the K4! ;)

      • True, and Kindle 3 has longer battery life apparantly as well. I thought the Kindle 4 would be better but it seems to be a bit of a downgrade and more dependant on personal preference. ie. Kindle 4 has aluminium body where (3) has plastic, stuff like that. This youtube comparison isn't bad too. Its good to see 'em side by side.

        http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FyRGZ5iC1Rs&feature=related

        • Agreed. I didn't like the touch screen arrangement on the K4 so I opted for the K3, I'm not regretting that decision! :)

        • My 4 doesn't have a touch screen, you can get them without the touch screens

        • +1

True, my bad…I was thinking of the KT.

        • Held the K4 at lunch time in DSE.. too small for my liking preferred something bigger.

  • I managed to grab the last wifi only 4th gen at Doncaster east. They had the 3G with the keyboard, but the box was opened and was apparently broken. No others at that store. Also tried Doncaster Westfield, The Glen or St Helena with no luck.

  • Anyone in SA managed to find the kindle 3G + WiFi (keyboard?) for anything other than $79? There are a fair few comments from people in other states saying that they have got this kindle for less than this and I have found one but am finding it hard to bite the bullet at $79…I probably would at $69 and definately wouldnt hesitate at anything less than this.

    • Try with your Every Day Rewards card for additional 10% off. Hmm $79 is about right for the 3G version but some ppl managed to get down to $35-ish mark by luck somehow. Perhaps ask?

Mind you to get a brand new 3G keyboard one from Amazon.com is $201 AUD with shipping included.. still great bargain at $79 there.

      • Yeah I know its still a pretty good price but i am an OXBARGAINER and I see at least 2 ppl commenting that they saw it for $69 (one even got 50% off that price again) so was just wondering why its $79 here??…..I saw the sticker for the Wifi model (none left) which was $48 same as everywhere else….I wonder why the 3G one is a different price to everywhere else?…..

        • EDR card? close to 10%

        • It's not uniform pricing which is annoying, some people got 10% off, some didn't. I purchased one 4 it was $60 but it had the EDR discount so it came to $54, everyone else got it for $48, still a good price at $54

        • Hmm ahh I remember something about grocery items being cheaper in poorer suburbs than richer ones or something a few years backk.. hmm.

  • Waverley Gardens = No
Prahran (Just came back from there) = No
Glen Huntly (Double checked in person) = No
