Are there plans for a Linux app in the near future?

        • There are currently no plans for a Linux app.

@Jason Gray: Hi Jason, we’re talking about IT project here. Can you please confirm if ’24 is 2024 or 3024?

            • +2

@olderman: We'd be extremely fortunate to be in business till 3024.

              But 2024, by the way.

This could be an unpopular opinion….
It appears OysterVPN (Owned by Oyster Digital Solutions Ltd) kicked off VPN services in 2023, seems a bit premature for an inexperienced VPN provider to be offering 'Lifetime' VPN subscriptions don't you think?

I hate the concept of these 'Lifetime' VPN services as it's not your lifetime, it's until the company implodes (so essentially the lifetime of the company)….

    • Lifetime of the company, I guess. This is how they rope you in to get customers. The more money they have the better they can improve their services.

Seems to be a money back guarantee. Maybe worth a shot.

    • +3

Providing a VPN service requires ongoing costs. Providing lifetime access for a fixed price is simply not sustainable.

I will never waste a cent on a company that promises such services.

      • +2

Repeat as it said empty… anyway… My Malwarebytes lifetime sub from 2010 is still going strong. Sometimes a lifetime offer is good

        • Not comparable.

The only ongoing costs for a life time antivirus is providing definition updates, which would need to be created anyway for other customers.

Compared to a VPN where the ongoing costs of bandwidth and servers would be much higher and the bandwidth costs aren’t offset by other customers.

@PainToad: my lifetime Ivacy VPN service purchased for $us29 in Feb 2017 is still going.

my lifetime GetFlix DNS & VPN service purchased for $us24.65 Nov 2016 is still going

my lifetime keepsolid/VPN Unlimited service purchased for $us29.95 June 2015 is still going.

i was sceptical when i bought them, hoping I'd get 1-2yrs outta them. I assume they're still around because they lured people like me to help get them established, get some cred them stay selling yearly subs to most others to help pay for the ongoing costs.

I've had some duds over the years too.

            • @M00Cow: How do you find Ivacy? Speeds aren't great. Getting around geoblocking is also terrible.

              • @BadGiraffe: speeds were always ordinary. but it used to be very good at unblocking UK stuff esp BBC, who a few years ago were swatting everyone else. They were also good for India & China.

They were one of the first to have split tunnel VPN, so you could activate it for say BBC iPlayer app, but you other apps used your normal ISP.

can't say I use them much any more, occasionally torrents

      • Selling your data will cover the ongoing costs. This business model is dirty, but viable.

    • While the concerns are legit, I can assure you that we have every intention of being in business. I think you'll appreciate the updates we have lined up for 2024.

You have a server in Rngland?

Not only are they based in Irelands (not sure how many there are being pluralized), but its weird they have to adhere to GDPR, but also CCPA, does that mean they are also based in the USA?

Oh and it looks like they run out of a townhouse if you believe the address they have provided

    • Hi! We do have a server for Sydney, Australia.

  • Where the logos of streaming apps are displayed, it shows Sony Liv and Hotstar, but no Indian server in the list?

    • +1

We have two servers in India (Mumbai and Bengaluru).

      • Thanks for clarifying

  • Negging due to multiple issues found. Site lists multiple Indian sites but no Indian VPN server.
Fix your site before trying to run a scheme/scam.

    • We have two servers in India (Mumbai and Bengaluru).

  • They have started the website just today LOL and already sell lifetime access Loool

    • OysterVPN is approaching its first anniversary next month.

      • But not the website in its current state.

Seems more like normal price & using OzB for free advertising if you're going to keep posting it.

India server is not on list of 234+ VPN Servers in 24+ Countries

    • We have two servers in India (Mumbai and Bengaluru).

  • Reminder that lifetime refers to the life of the business not your life.

Based on the Lindy effect you can reasonably expect a VPN that's been in business 1 day to have a life expectancy of at least 1 more day before they fold.

  • I'm willing to give you guys a go as im in the market for a VPN and hate paying annual subscription fees.

    1. Does your app work with Amazon Firestick?
    2. Is it fast enough to stream HD content?

I've been using Windscribe free but find the speed is far too slow to practically use and definitely not suitable for any streaming.

    Thanks

      1. Yes, OysterVPN is available for Fire TV Stick. You can download from the Appstore.
      2. In general, yes. But factors like distance from the VPN server play a huge role. We have two dedicated streaming servers for US and UK, we're looking to add India soon.
  • Any taiwan streaming server VPN?

    • There is a VPN server for Taiwan. However, streaming is not guaranteed as it's a datacenter solution.

  • does it support application specific vpn, so if an application resources/data should only go to a region, or url based specific tunnelling?

    • Yes, split-tunneling is available for Windows and Android.

  • Perhaps their lifetime came to an end or they gave up with Ozb, 19h ago 🫣

    • Still seems to be available
