I have and use one of these and I wouldn't recommend it.

Rarely when I switch my K&M won't switch and I have to switch back to get it working. But the biggest issue is that if I use my keyboard volume wheel it will always get stuck, either continuously muting, or will turn volume up to 100%. I would give it 2 out of 5 stars.

Do you need active HDMI to DP if converting?

Yes, or just get a similar switch with HDMI if you're not using DP anyway. I have a similar one with HDMI and it was much cheaper, especially if you don't need the 8k capabilities.

      • Hard to find, PC is DP, work laptop HDMI

        • USB-C is more convenient, assuming your work laptop supports it.

@Aureus: It does, but I'm going USB C to HDMI and then HDMI on the laptop for my two screens

    • There's a $41 HDMI 2x2 option here: https://vi.aliexpress.com/item/1005005458199581.html (no endorsement, I haven't used it)

But I just ended up buying two monitors that had two HDMI inputs. Now I can switch either or both computers to either monitor just using the monitor's controls.

I use a single keyboard that attaches to both computers so I switch it independently when I need to type on the other computer, and I use two mice — one on each computer.

The setup works really well. When I had my keyboard and mouse in the KVM it was a pain because to type on the other laptop I ended up with the monitor switching too.

  • Isn't DP1.4 supposed to have the bandwidth to support 4k120?

Yeah it should. The description says so.

Support the highest video resolution: 7680X4320@30Hz; 3840*2160@120Hz/60Hz

      • Woops I missed that, nice little switch then.

    • Only with DSC, although it should be visually lossless at least.

Found in all KVM I've used only basic feature keyboards and mouse work. Don't know about this one specificly but if you have a favourite expensive mechanical keyboard with programmable features it may not work with KVM.

  • Side note, this brand also makes a really decent triple monitor KVM switch that works amazingly for the price.

nd if you know anything about KVM you will understand the price jump from 2 monitors to 3

I have been using it daily for about 4 months
