    8Gb 2133 MHZ RAM onboard

    stop reading

    • 8GB RAM would be doable if it could be upgraded at some point, but - to me - it's worse that it appears that it is not upgradeable

      • +3

Are you running AutoCad or Revitt ? I would say that more then 80% would say that it's more than then they need. Remember that most people are happy with their phones.
What software are you running ?

    • +10

8gb is plenty for a device like this that isn't likely to do more than basic tasks anyway. You won't be doing any video editing or serious coding on a laptop like this.

For the money, 8gb of RAM is totally forgivable I think.

One thing I like about these Porteges is that they really are surpremely thin and light given the specs they have.

      • Yep I have a stack of Z20t-C's and B's that I use and the kids use for BYOD. They have been running strong for their entire school careers, The oldest one is still running for its 8th year of daily school use. And these were a few years old when I got them off eBay etc. So they are well designed and very robust considering the slimness.

If they drop one too many times and it finally breaks, I just swap in another one off the pile. They only have 8GB of ram, which is still pretty good. Its the 100% passive CPU that is the limiting factor.

      • I've been coding (VScode + Python) on an Intel g7 i5, 8GB RAM. No issue at all.
The problem, however, comes from video calls, heavyweight websites,…

Not.sure why so many people down voted you. You bring up a valid concern.

      • No.

      • A Corolla won't do 0-100 in 5 seconds, but it would be a stupid thing to raise on an OzBargain deal for cheap Corollas.

  • Maybe the stylus shouldn't be displayed in the add since its not included

    • Would my Galaxy Note 10+ pen work on this?

  • +2

note that on the m710q tiny, unless it was originally configured with 2 nvme drives from factory, the second m.2 slot will b unpopulated on the m/b - i.e. there will be no connector present.

  • win11 included which is good

  • +2

$231 and you are expecting 16GB RAM? A little impossible?

    • +8

      Did not expect to come with 16GB RAM but the ability upgrade to 16GB if one desires to do so;
Not an unreasonable expectation as Lenovo, Dell and HP offer upgradable memory option except on the ultra slim light weight machines.

      • Isn't this one ultra slim light weight? I think it's comparable to Lenovo X1 Carbon

  • +1

Would this be good for games like Roblox and Minecraft?

How long do you think the battery would last with them?

  • +1

Is the SSD and RAM upgradable? Also, what's the condition of the battery?

    • SSD yes
      RAM no

  • Any idea how heave they are?
Do they have usb c charge
Wanted to take overseas to do light work

Just to point out that Intel was a bit dodgy with 8th gen laptop CPUs, there are 2 types, Kaby Lake Refresh (7th gen CPU core refresh) and Coffee Lake (proper 8th gen). This CPU is the former, Kaby Lake R.

While User Benchmark data comparison isn't accurate enough, for showing Kaby Lake R vs Coffee Lake, it at least shows the difference. The i5-8259U is Coffee Lake.
    i7-8550U vs i5-8259U

So, think of the CPU in this deal as a Intel 7th gen CPU when considering whether it is a bargain or not.

    • +1

Although it may be based on Kaby Lake silicon, the big thing about 8th gen i5s and i7s is that they are quad-cores. The only quad-cores in the 7th gen laptop lineup were for workstation laptops (e.g. the i7-7700HQ), the mainstream Kaby Lake line up were all dual cores.

But yes, Intel should've called Kaby Lake Refresh 8th gen and Coffee Lake 9th gen. The fact that they skipped 9th gen for mobile probably tells all in that regard.

      • i7-8550U has 4 cores according to Intel. Coffee Lake CPU core is Intel's temporary workaround solution to counter the rise of Ryzen mobile / laptop processors. However, Intel didn't really have a proper solution until 12th gen.

The dodgy naming to trick consumers on these 8th gen laptop processors is confusing and annoying though.

        • No argument there. All the tech companies do it in one form or another, unfortunately

AMD's Ryzen 5700 is actually a neutered 5700G, not a downclocked 5700X as previous naming conventions would suggest

NVidia's RTX 3050 6gb is much weaker (slower and fewer CUDA cores) than the 8gb variant, the GTX 1060 3gb much weaker than the 6gb variant (same reason)

      • i7-7700HQ

this is really good, my sister still uses a laptop with this CPU as a workstation.

  • Can the M710q RAM be upgraded, or does it have no second m.2 slot like what Wilburre said?

  • Ordered. Thanks. Looks like a good deal for a low cost spare for travel use, kids to learn on, etc.

  • -1

Does it come with Excel, Word, PPT?

    • why would you think it would?

    • +3

No but feel free to "Google" for low cost options :)

      • +4

I've been using "no cost" MS software since 1994 ;)

  • thanks, got one

  • It's been on for this price on OzB before. What makes this deal more attractive?

This one has a better processor. This is the response I needed but too late now

            • @spy: Yes I'd expect an i5 with win10 would be cheaper than this deal, is that your point?

      • +2

        Yup. These only get cheaper.

        I bought a Dell Latitude 7390 for $350 2 years ago.

Then the next one up 7300 for $250 a year ago.

Picked up another 7300 for $200 a few weeks ago.

All A grade with 85%+ battery.

        • +1

Lucky. I got the latitude 7490 2 years ago and it only had 60% battery. Now only 45%. I'm considering getting a replacement but I dunno who to trust.

          • @Wonderfool: Not affiliated but I have had good results with replacement batteries from laptopbatterydirect.com.au

          • @Wonderfool: Buy a replacement battery and it it yourself. If everything else is serviceable I think generic battery is like $50 - $80.

One of the 7300 has a 60wh battery where as the newest refurb has 42wH battery but it seems like discharges quickly.

Might have to look at a full reinstall at some point.

    • That they are available.

  • +1

I would love to have BNTL but they are all gone :(

    • I can still get on eBay for $248.99 from the same seller which is still a bargain.

  • +1

I got the m700 tiny to add to my Acer Veriton to start building a TinyMiniMicro kubernates cluster

  • Is this Tiny PC the one where you can put the Lenovo riser (01AJ902) to add in a 4 port NIC for pfSense?

    • +1

No i think that is the 720/920

  • +2

Just received my other, very well packed, complete and in perfect condition. Battery life seems good so far. Nice little lappy.

  • Loving this machine, which I bought another!

    • Just checked and there's stock again, and the code works, but comes to $280 now 😢

    • which

      ?

    • Not sure if I mentioned it before, but I love the old hardware, I run Arch on it
