Yeah but "better" graphics card. This whole gen of laptop graphic cards are all over the shop

    • Yeah it makes me want to avoid buying a laptop in general might just wait for next Gen

      • Can still stick with current gen, just don't pick MSI

I will go over this as many times as we need to:

Low end MSI gaming laptops (literally, everything that is not a GP/GE/GS/GT), AKA 'we havent really updated the chassis for good in 5+ years now'. If anything, comparing to an old GF series from 2019, the new one is a sidegrade if anything:

    • keeping in line with those shoddy fans with few fanblades and one less heatsink over competitors, the old one have 3 dedicated gpu ones, 1 for VRAM, and 2 dedicated cpu ones, the new one have all 4 heatpipes shared, 1 vrm dedicated and that 1 VRAM heatpipe doesnt even go to a heatsink ???

    • the worst of all design idea comes to the second ssd slot, unlike the cyborg, they finally cared to give you a second ssd slot, but guess what? there is NO screwhole to secure that nvme to - they didnt even bother to mold it on the plastic-ass chassis

    • and yes, thats a cut down battery, as per usual from budget laptops, what is not normal (but characteristic of MSI?) They put a goddamn 400 gram weight to make it feel heavier - and yes, the timestamped video is 3 years old, and they are still doing it till this day, in this machine right here

The specs arent even that good, 4070 for 2.3k is a decidedly average, the -H chip in here is a major performance deficit from -HX chips used by comparable laptops (as in, none thin n light, bog standard gaming lappys) of 2023, and QHD 165hz? 2021 Legion 5 Pros have QHD+ (so that 16:10 real estate) and have HDR400 and native gsync support.

Absolutely spot on, at this price, even if you blind pick any Lenovo Legion is way way better than these MSI low end models.
I would say even the Aorus 15 or 15X prob still better than this MSI

      • Man, the Lenovo Legion is way too pricey😕 No Aorus for me :(

Nice rundown, I am in the market for a new laptop and I find choosing some of these laptops across ASUS/MSI/Gigabyte all with similar specs but some wild price variations that I have no idea what I am looking and I don't want to buy something that seems like good value but end up with a lemon.

Ultimately, thanks as now I know that some of the MSI laptops are poorly designed and aren't really good bang for buck

    • With these specs what is Lenovo Legions price equivalent?

      • Last time I posted a legion deal, the Legion 5 Pro/Slim is 2069$/1949$ respectively for the 4060 sku, as noted down in the comments, the 4070 upgrade at that time is also discounted to 339$. Which makes it sit right at this price tag here, and Lenovo site deals can use elevated cashback which at the time was a pretty high 15%.

    katana goat newzealand reference

  • anyone tried the Infinity series gaming laptops? their prices seems really good for the specs.

    https://www.infinitygaming.com.au/#products

    • I was wondering the same, lack of reviews online tells me no one buys them

      • yeh i don't religiously follow a brand, surely if the specs are great for the price, it shouldn't be too bad. will wait for a sale.

https://www.mwave.com.au/product/infinity-173-qhd-165hz-gami… this is on sale with some similar specs to the Legion Pro 5 which sometimes goes on sale for the same price but it would be safer sticking with Legion imo. You also have possibility of cashback making it even cheaper.

        • Actually I've just realized that's 17" screen so probably better value than the legion before cashback if thermals and build quality are good. I believe those models are only released in Aus hence lack of reviews. Might be worth giving them a go though. I know the chassis at least for older models was from some unknown Chinese brand of laptops after doing some research but no one was saying whether that was a good or bad thing.
