I got this last week, pretty happy with it for the price. Everything i need with it and nothing i dont

    • +2

      What are the speakers like?

      • Yeah, this is my question to

      • +1

tinny… would suggest a sound bar

      • +26

        Speakers: Yes

      • I have external speakers, so cant comment

        • +6

@pdtmathieson mate you can just disconnect the external speakers and try it out?

    • When you turn it on, does it have a home screen ?
I once had a soniq that went straight to a home screen which had an ad right in the middle, returned it the same day I bought it.

  • +2

Shipping option not available when I get to the end of the checkout - pick up from 4 locations is the only option I can see?

    • Same here…only 4 pick up locations showing

edit: Must not be included in the delivery areas as stated in the description which I overlooked.
Would've been good to know before filling in the details which areas are included before finding out their place isn't.

      • I am in Metro Sydney, but in Dee Why. Must be why.
Closest I can find is Chatswood, and Castle Hill is OK.
        Very limited delivery area.

    • Likewise, I am in regional Warragul and I only get the pickup options.

    • +1

North Sydney didn't work but Gordon did (NSW)

  • +8

    Please ship to Perth :D

    • +1

      Yeah, I feel discriminated.

    • +3

      Where’s that?

    • Better off ordering from Singapore or Bali. Both closer than Sydney

    • Agreed, Perth is in Australia too!!! LOL

  • +9

We did not anticipate the continued popularity of non-smart TVs

Hopefully shows you there’s still a demand for non-smart TVs!

    • +6

There is, a lot of us just use chromecasts anyway so it doesnt matter

    • +6

Now if we could just have non-smart mid-range TVs. They're always either entry level like this or very expensive commercial panels.

  • Well done OPs for catering for the OzBrodens.

  • +9

A 1-year warranty will be provided instead of the previously offered 3-year warranty due to a promotional update.

This statement may breach consumer law @soniqaustralia

    • +6

true, but on the other hand, consumer law means that warranty isn't that important anyway

If my TV with a 12 month warranty died at 13 months, I'd kindly let Soniq know that they need to repair or replace the TV regardless

      • But given the right chain of events, this statement MAY result in a nice fat fine

        • It is fine for a vendor to offer a 1 year warranty, they won't be fined for doing so.
It also should be taken into consideration with ACL rights.
If they found some of these TVs were sometimes dying at 3years, many people would take a gamble for a reduced price, so a 1 year warranty is appropriate.

It actually sucks a bit that so many people will demand ACL years after warranty, so manufacturers can't sell off subpar stock even at deep discount.

          • +1

@mskeggs: Correct, it is fine for a vendor to offer 1-year warranty - changing the warranty period due to a promotion is not fine

      • +1

If the manufacturer knows their TV died just one month after warranty, they will be very happy with their design lifetime ☺️

    • +5

The ACL or 300 sections of grey, all comes down to what a "reasonable person" (whatever that is) would see as a reasonable period of time with respect to price paid. so if our reasonable person identifies that a $2999 tv should last 5 years would not by that definition mean a $299 tv should last 6 months. there is more effort spent on defining misrepresentation and conduct of the participants than defining acceptable warranty periods. so yes, this could be considered an attempt to misrepresent a consumers rights by stating 1 year however that is then contradicted by the grey of what's a reasonable period of time for a $299 tv.

      • +7

our reasonable person identifies that a $2999 tv should last 5 years would not by that definition mean a $299 tv should last 6 months.

I think a 7 year warranty is nice on a $20k kia picanto, but you can't extrapolate to a $100k BMW having a 35 year warranty. Nobody would reasonably expect a 6 month lifespan from a new TV. Cost is not the only factor, there are expectations from the class of product.

        • Hence the grey.

    • Why??

    • Warranty is in addition to your Consumer Law rights. A company can go ahead and offer zero warranty if they so wish, they still have obligations under Consumer Law.

  • +4

    Soniq enthusiasts

    That's a thing?

    • +7

usually not compatible with Mario fans

  • +9

    Brisbane please

    • +4

Yeah, I'd literally buy 5 for my church, and the school I work at would probably want to buy like 10 to replace all the old TV's they're using.

  • -8

well is $299.00. Not trying to say it's bad, but I will look elsewhere. Save up for it and get a better TV.

    • +9

Everyone's use case is different. I am tempted to buy this as an upgrade for my security TV in the office and my garage TV.

However, in saying that, my 65" Soniq Lounge Room TV is working very well and has been for about 6 years now (and been moved 3 times). I've been pretty happy with the Soniq brand.

      • +3

Yeah, I'd love to put one outside to watch sports while in the pool or cooking on the BBQ.

They'd go great at my church as screens to the side of the stage, or in the Nursery.

I could use it as a dedicated home security camera feed. Or put it in the bottom of a D&D table.

        These aren't 'just a TV' they're a universal digital display device, with built-in speakers…

If something could benefit from potentially having a big, high resolution digital display, this could be a great answer.

  • +1

I can't get delivery, must be a little bit too far out of Melbourne (the next suburb over from me is 15 mins drive away and IS under the delivery map)… oh well. Maybe one day they'll deliver a bit further out.

  • no WA? Pfftt

    • I misread SA as WA and was half way through the checkout before I realised

    • +1

I can understand not doing WA, but geez Brisbane isn't THAT far away!

  • Thanks for listening! Order placed XD

  • +1

Very happy to see people making non-smart products still, especially tvs, probably the hardest to come by. I'm looking for a size upgrade so I won't be buying this time, but please make some bigger models.

Speakers always suck in flat tvs, no room for them. I wonder if anyone makes any speaker-free tvs too, I don't want to pay for something I won't use 😅

    • +3

It would save 45c in costs and makes the TV much less useful for those who don't care.

      • True, the speakers are so shit I guess they do only cost 45cents

    • Problem is that if you want the best panels in a TV, you often have to get them with smart features, as TVs without them are classified as digital signage and thus have a higher premium that the TVs sold.

I do wish that there were OLED TVs with high-bandwidth HDMI ports and some kind of CEC, and literally nothing else, but somehow it became another revenue stream and now it’s everywhere.

  • Looking for a second tv in our house, should I go with this one or a 9-year-old panasonic plasma ST60 (fb marketplace selling for $200)?

    • +9

plasma fades over time and uses more power.

    • +3

I would get a plasma, any day of the week. No comparison with picture quality, only thing you miss out on is 4K.

      • +9

        Free heater

    • plasma ST60. Mine is still working and don't plan to replace it anytime soon (unless it dies).

    • I have a 50"samsung plasma hd from 2006 i got for $1600 and it works perfectly like the day i bought it.. only problem is the screen has lost about 50% of its brightness due to the age… so.. not sure if thats fixable… so bought one of these to replace it… atleast this will be brighter and 4k capable

    • +1

Get the plasma! Recently got a VT30A for $70, barely used, and absolutely love it.

  • +1

    Your loving feels so goooooood….

  • +2

New bedroom TV sorted - thanks!

  • +4

Would be nice to get something like this but closer to 40" for a bit cheaper.

    • would also love a slightly smaller model!

      • +2

        Bedroom tv!

    • I would also prefer a smaller one.

  • Need something below 50" for less for kids entertainment TV.

  • can you give us a further discount ? :D 55" SONIQ E-Series TV was $399 even in December 2021

  • How trust worthy is the 8ms pixel response time?

    • +5

What is "proper shipping"? A deal that is collect in store only can still be a deal…

  • my mum got the TV last week from the Braeside warehouse, whats funny is she traveled from Truginina to get it lol, she lives 2 mins from the Truginina warehouse, just if she could get it from there last week she wouldn't have had to come all the way to the other side of the city, ah well.

    • +3

Any thoughts on the TV itself? in terms of picture quality and sound?

      • +1

mum has been too lazy to set it up, so no idea

  • +4

If you spent $1500 on a 55” oled …. Before dumping on soniq as a brand…. Ask yourself what are you really doing and why … and what you could have spent the $1200 on.

  • +1

Yeah id take a cheaper dumb tv over paying extra for the 'smart' anyday.. running firestick on all my displays or plugging in a pc… dont watch normal over the air tv for long time… stream though firestick etc… we need more dumb tv's in the world.. someone needs to sell an 85" dumb tv to make them more affordable, with a decent processor in it, capable to run the firestick etc or pc you plug in it.. its awesome soniq has done this.

    • +1

I ordered one click and collect from Braeside.. just trying to get out of work to pick it up… can't wait to replace the 50" samsung hd plasma i bought in 2006 for $1600 with it… its still going strong, only problem is the screen has dimmed probably 50% due to its age… this is the perfect upgrade, and i already have a pair of presonus 3.5bt speakers to plug it upto.. so should be good

  • +1

    OP, got any bigger tvs?

  • +3

Brought it… Hope it fits the car trunk??? Lol or I'm screwed

Guess it's not oled… Hopefully looks good though I've never owned anything with 4k resolution :)

  • +1

Cheap and going backwards to 2008. Sounds just like perfection for Australians. The main thing being cheap.

  • +3

Is it good enough for a cheap gaming monitor?

    • -1

      for tetris, yes

    • I'll let you know in a few days once I get this, the main thing I'm worried about with using it as a monitor is input lag.

      • +2

I got a $300 50" 4k JVC about 7 years ago… still going strong and i play strategy games on it et and its fine.. running on a rtx 3080. First person shooters you might notice the difference, but picture quality at 4k was awesome for a 4k tv.. far superior to my super ultrawide 2k monitor

  • +1

Wondering if they allow weekend pickup from the location?

  • +1

    Any deals on 65”?

  • Would this TV be ok with a PS5? Just want something that's bigger than my 19 year old panasonic 42" plasma. Don't need anything fancy.

    • +2

anything would be an upgrade, yes.

  • +1

Is anyone able to confirm if an Amazon FireTV Max is able to control the TV functions such as on/off/volume?

I only ask as I have 3yr old Hitachi 32 which isn’t using a recognise remote code so it needs two remotes to control it. Seems Amazon have a huge database but it doesn’t cover my model tv

Also the manual states it consumes 150w but the website summary states 125w
Could the wrong manual be linked?

  • +3

Any thoughts on its picture quality comparing those $500-$600 TCL/Hisense tv's ?
    Thanks

    • +1

Yep this is the real question

  • No delivery to ACT

  • Wtf QLD misses out again?

  • This or Samsung 98" 🤔

  • +4

Nobody's talking about pictures quality.. why?

  • +1

Anyone familiar with how long order processing takes before pickup is available?

  • Any issues to potentially hang this on wall? Cant quite tell from looking at rear image of tv. No mention of vesa.

    • +1

      No mention of vesa.

It's mentioned in both OP's post and on the website… VESA Wall Mount Size: 200x200mm.
