Heard Static Noises with Strange Voice and Heavy Breathing While on Calls Vaya

Hi all, I'm having major issues with phone calls. I need it fixed because it's quite dangerous if I can't hear the other person and if something happens, I need to be able to call or have someone call me without these issues happening.

I was on a casual call with my friend for around 10 minutes when suddenly their voice cut off, and some unsettling noises came with sounds of heavy breathing and static water and robotic sounds. The unsettling noises sounded like someone trying to say something but were heavily distorted. During this time, none of us could hear each other (my friend could hear the weird noises too. this keeps happening every call I make or get.

I have swapped phones even and still same issue, this only started happening a couple of months ago and for every phone call this happens after around 5 minutes but is random.

I'm using Vaya and had a Moto 30 pro and now a S24 and both same issues. I have reset the network settings, I have restarted phone, all same issues nothing is helping.

Do I have to change carriers? If I do what if it happens again with another carrier? I'm so lost. I see nothing on google, other people have same issues or close to it but there are no suggestions or help.

UPDATE: I swapped carries, using this deal https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/828722
if it keeps happening i will record it

    Wasn't Barnaby Joyce was it?

Anyway make sure wifi calling is switched off. Unless you gots great wifi then it's more trouble than it's worth, especially if you have good cell reception anyway.

    • it is turned off. and this is happening everywhere not just in one spot

    • This, exactly this - it's Barnaby Joyce.

  • Do you or your friend use Bluetooth devices? These could either be getting interference, or a low battery device trying to pair/connect.

It is vanishingly unlikely it has anything to do with your telco carrier - that isn't how phones work now they are digital.

    • like i said its happening everywhere, outside in middle of no where.
its not just friend its everyone i call or get calls
It is not my phone since i swapped it it has to be a carrier right? nothing else makes sense

      • Do you use a Bluetooth headset or earphones or hands-free when you make calls?

        • -1

          no i talk on phone.

    • Someone is spying on OP

  • Change providers

Please record and present here such sounds. Intriguing.

I don't know why but very occasionally the person I speak with starts sounding like a robot. I think it's cutting off higher frequencies and then interpolating. Maybe similar to what you are hearing but def no heavy breathing. The only way I fix it is end the call and try again.

it is creepy sounding. lol no clue how to post it here or record it.
anyway to fix it? will changing carries fix it? this only started happening to me 2 months ago and now wont stop

      • just download any voice recorder app if your phone doesnt have one built in and it will record calls.

  • it was elvis from the netherworld telling you not to step on his blue swede shoes

doesn't you phone record all your calls? give us a recording …

Hey, entities can and do interfere with electronics audio, just like this. I know from experience.

    Hello Joyce?

You may be under surveillance. Does it happen on WhatsApp calls or similar? Does it always happen or just sometimes? Get a different sim registered in someone else's name on the same network and run that to see whether it repeats. If so, you've just put them on "the list" too. Or just port out and see if that fixes the issue. If not, you've got bigger fish to fry.

It isn't the 1990s anymore. Phone taps don't work like that.

    • Wow, Norton really out here fearmongering making people think they are being spied on LOL

Can people be "put under surveillance" ? Yes.
Are the gooberment doing it to a random person? lol no

      • Well if the gov thinks you aren't random, or know someone who knows someone, they might.
And i guess they'd have to test out their tech somehow.
Possibly for shits and giggles, disinformation….

        • Time to take off the tinfoil hat and realise that if you use Google or any other internet service, you are already being tracked and "spied" on in more ways than the government could hope to.

          • @coffeeinmyveins: So you're saying not that the government couldn't or wouldn't or isn't….but that google and others already get so much, don't worry about it….

What makes you think OP is random person? They could be an international war criminal for all we know :D.

        • Hey, i'll take those 0.00000000001% odds.

Happens to me as well when I call the sex chat numbers too

    It’s probably a ghost.
I mean, you’ve tried changing phones, so what else could it be?
Did you contact vaya and report the ghost issue?

Does it still happen if you move to a different location? Eg. Take a train away from your house and see if it's still happening?

Does it happen when you record yourself on a recording app or another voice call app like Signal?

It's possible you have something around you emitting a frequency that you can't hear but gets messed around by the codecs.

If you turn power off to your house (not just the appliances) does it fix it?

    • +1

The things you are pointing to seem most likely. I'm wondering if there is a bluetooth headset or similar on 1% battery trying to connect forgotten in a bag somewhere.

    • yes it happens when i move different locations.
I dont record anything but found only does it during a call, i ran tests on my phone
This only started 2 months ago and i been with vaya for over 4 years

Take a video using the phone and play it back do you still hear the sound?

    Get a replacement SIM?

I dunno, I tried nothin and I’m all out of ideas

Vaya's official website has been under maintenance since late December 2022. It is currently not accepting any new customers. Please keep in mind the prices and information on this page are accurate as of December 7, 2022.

    Source: https://www.finder.com.au/mobile-plans/vaya

maybe some rich dude bought the Vaya carrier as a "set and forget" passive income scheme?
idk I'm just theorising, because why would you not want to accept new customers for an ENTIRE YEAR when there's plenty of money to be made?

  • Maybe an Optus network thing - there are a few examples that may be similar eg: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/772489 .

I would switch provider and see if it keeps happening.

    • ill give it a shot, hopefully it stops

  • Sounds intriguing, but we really need some evidence. Record the call.

I hope this isn't a silly troll. I'm on Vaya and have yet to have anything but clear normal phone calls.

  • some unsettling noises came with sounds of heavy breathing and static water and robotic sounds

You didn't happen to watch a cursed tape before this happened did you?

  • What does static water sound like?

    You've encountered another dimension.

They are aware of your prescence.

It may already be too late to save you.

  • Contact Vaya and ask them if there are any network issues affecting call quality. Robot and under-water sounds are common when there are bandwidth issues, heavy breathing is an odd one..

Have you worked out how to record a call? Your phone likely has this option which can be seen while on a call. If not, enable hands-free and video or audio record the call using your other phone.

i changed to Vodafone seems to be better? idk yet i need to try it more

  • Spirit can get into the phone system. It happened to me just before Sep 11th 2001. I got 2 very staticy and unearthly voicemails left on my home answer machine 20 mins apart for about 2 minutes long each. I did some investigating and found they were sent from my pre smart phone prepaid mobile that was in my bag on the floor next to me at work. I had never called my home number from that phone, nor programmed it into the phone. I had barely even used the phone. So somehow it knew my home number and called it by itself.

My elderly mother also experienced similar issues with her Vaya service over the past few months.. Vaya's standard response is there is an Optus tower outage in the area but couldn't tell me when it'll be resolved.. Vaya has 'supposedly' recently refreshed Mum's service on 2 occasions lately but the problem continues. It's clearly not the phone nor the SIM and, to my way of thinking, can only be line related.

Father has also used Optus (via Coles and Catch) over the same period and has experienced no issues whatsoever.

Bottom line is Vaya's service is shite and they've now agreed to refund the replacement SIM charge of $20 and last month's phone charge. They also agreed that the best course of action is to port to another provider.

Now all we need is a good Boost deal..
