OP you may want to check the guidelines on posting referral link in a deal:

“Can I post a referral link or code in a deal?

No, referral links & codes are prohibited almost* everywhere on OzBargain; this includes all deal, forum and classified posts and comments.”

    • +1

Technically OP's post isn't a Referral Link nor is it a referral code (OP isn't trying to link their referral code/link, otherwise yes it would be in breach of that).
This is more of an referral incentive which is prompting the use of the 'Referral Link Generator' which everyone currently with GloBird can participate in.

The guideline you're referring to more or less refers to those trying to post their own referral code/link as a 'Deal' to farm referrals for $$$$

IMO (whether I'm wrong or not), this is probably better suited as a 'Forum' topic rather than a 'Deal' but I'm pretty sure forum topics don't allow the 'Random Referral Generator' (Unless you provide the link to the Globird Referral Generator in the context of the post description) so ¯_(ツ)_/¯

      • +3

OP originally posted their own referral link in the deal description when the deal was first posted, calling it a “special link”. I got negged for pointing that out.

Moderator later removed that referral link from the deal. You can check the deal revisions if you like.

        • +2

I completely overlooked the revisions and you're 100% right. My apologies.

Surprised OP hasn't been Penalty Boxed for that attempt. Naughty naughty @aboteh

I switched last month to globird… problem is that everyone is too lazy to change power supplier for a better down. Would love to help someone out 😉

    • Globird takes so damn long to switch where I am.
When I switch to origin to take advantage of their $150 credit promos, its very fast.
Globird takes over a month every time.

      • Took me 2 weeks … western sydney..

        • Yeah, probably easier in a city.
          I'm in a small(er) town.
But its so weird that origin takes me about 2 weeks from date of sign up, yet globird takes me more than a month.

          • @ihuntbargains: There's usually a cooling off period (all states?), and then it depends on meter reads and how quickly both providers act. I've flipped between a few providers over the last ten years, including Globird a few times, and in my experience it's hard to predict how long it will take for any of them.

    • Thankfully you don't have to help anyone out, you can chill while they use the special non-standard referral link the OP provided. Relax and let the work be done for you :)

Funnily enough I just switched away from globird recently to save money. They hiked their rates a LOT around December. +5c kW/H for power and +21c per MJ for gas.

      • Sumo did the same to me.

Went from 24c kwhr to 39 lol

So i'm at globird now at 25c kwhr

    • You could help me out ;)

  • Does adding electricity to existing gas globird customer have any bonus?

  • So is it $88 + $50? What's the minimum term to stay to get the deal?

I've done a bit of umpiring a while back. Does that count?

Sadly switched in and then out of Globird. They got my business with the lowest rates and hiked them in the following months quite quickly. Discounts are confusing, and they continually estimated my gas usage without doing proper readings every two months.

Bills are also quite confusing to read. Personally wouldn’t go back considering the obvious bait and switching.

    • +6

Bills are super confusing coz they bill monthly with estimate readings. For someone who likes to monitor their usage and keep on top of their bills, this is the worst type of billing. Most of the time their estimate was way higher than my usage and this basically means they're taking extra money from me without paying me any interest. Meter read is quarterly and that's when you get a bill close enough to your actual usage. I switched over from Globird in a few months.

      • Agreed. I contacted them to move bi monthly, they wouldn’t allow it.

      • Absolutely over estimating.

Mine was heading to 4 months of estimates, asked me for an actual reading. Sent it through, told me nothing to pay for 4th month.

I hate their website and payment system doesn't give you a receipt.

      • +1 for the over estimates. they over estimated our nov and dec by such a margin that our jan bill was almost break-even on usage rate.

Will be rolling off at next rate hike notification

    • Same here. They raised my electricity prices after 5 months. So I had to switch again.

    • so who did you move to? I've been with them for a couple months now and was annoyed about the estimated reading, only with them for gas and my last bill was $0 due to the previous estimate being too high, lol

      • I went with CovaU for gas (NSW, Jemena distributed) and Dodo for power.

    • Even when I switched away from them I didn't get a proper reading. My final bill was based on an estimate! I didn't think that was allowed.

      • I didn’t think it was either.

  • +18

be aware, in the next rate revision, your rate will be higher than any major retail like AGL or Energy Australia, Origin. Unless you are prepared to keep switching around, its not a deal. They upper the recruit credit because so many people chose to leave after their Jan rate rise. it was like 40% for me

    • +1

Pretty shoddy tactic. Seems more widespread than I thought. Thought I was just an unlucky customer.

    • Happened to me to. Which provider have you now switched to?

    • How often do they do rate revisions? I moved onto them back in June last year and am still on the same rates. I assume they'll change in July but I'll just switch providers then, they're by far the cheapest for now.

  • +3

I was with globird for 2 years, however no longer became competitive with the rate rise. Switched to red energy for much better rates.

    • +4

Depending on your area CovaU appears to be cheapest at the moment for electricity.

      • Yup just switched to them from Tango…inner city Melbourne

  • +7

Yeah.. Nah, I joined Globird for their good rates and within a couple of months their rates went up to higher than where I started. Spent a total of 2 months with them and moving on. Their website is cheap and their low rate bait and switch is a no deal for this OzBargainer.. find a better deal and move on..

  • Their supply charge is 40c higher than my current one and variable rate is about 10c higher. Not competitive at all

  • +6

I switched to these guys 6 months or so ago when they were the cheapest. Within a month they “adjusted” their pricing and were suddenly way more expensive than the competition. Needless to say I switched back out already.

  • +2

    https://compare.energy.vic.gov.au/

They might be good for you or not, for me they are cheaper than my previous supplier. OVO for electricity and globird for gas for my suburb.

Every 6 months just check the above site if you're in Victoria to make sure you're on the cheapest plans for electricity and gas.

    EZPZ

    • +1

I'm exactly the same! Use OVO for energy and Globird for gas. Annoying with the 2 bills as OVO don't offer gas. But, if it can save me some coin, I do it 😉

      • +1

I was lucky to get the solar plan when it was available. So I was on 14c feed in for a while until they changed it to 10c. Still better than any other retailer at the moment.

    • +1

I'm in the same combination for gas and electricity.

  • Its been worth it for us with all the bonuses and due to switching to a gas meter, our usage has been estimated lower than our actual usage. People apparently can send in a photo of their actual usage and theyd charge based on that but we never tried it. They did increase price once in the last year. always good to check if it's still a good deal every now and then

  • Same story as many of the comments, they signed us up with low rates and then went to hike the rates to oblivion. I'm now with Amber elec who does supplier rates now, can be bit of a hassle keeping an eye on rates and adjusting the usage accordingly but has been way cheaper than globird.

  • Currently with globird, recently successfully had them change my rate to a better deal when I heard my in law was offered a better deal on sign up.. just have to be diligent and threaten switching etc when they pump their rates.. best part is, you can pre pay bills for no credit card fee for the churners out there

  • +1

YMMV with these guys, however remember they are one of the few Australian owned energy resellers. Worth checking out the Canstar list below for Australian operators with decent deals to compare. Can't stress it enough, but don't be sending your energy money offshore to Chinese owner companies. Its bad enough they've got a foothold here, the least you can do when searching for barbains is strangle them.

    https://www.canstarblue.com.au/electricity/which-energy-comp…

  • I advice anyone not to look at just credit but look at actual rates. And estimated billing is big no for me.

  • +1

I went with globird after comparing offers using https://compare.energy.vic.gov.au/

They updated their rate after few months and is higher than Origin.

Also their billing it's based on estimates every alternate month.

  • +1

Just so you guys know, within about 6-8 months your sign up discount will expire and your rates will go up. Since going with them about a year ago my bills have sky rocketed on an upward trend, and I live solo with no extra appliances from when I signed up. Im currently in the process of moving with dodo who currently has better electricity rates where I live.

Dont get me wrong they are all crooks and my rates will probably go up with dodo in 6 months also, I guess I just need to keep hopping around everytime they jack me up.

    • I've been with Globird for elec, gas, and both, a number of times. The rates have gone up once within a short time, but at other times it has been a year. Different states have different laws about when energy price rises can happen, so I can only comment on my situation in Victoria. Currently for me in my region, Globird are not competitive for electricity, but almost best for gas. All energy providers have raised prices significantly in recent years, as wholesale prices have increased too. Unless you sign up to a provider with a plan that says no increases for X time, you are of course going to be subject to the (at least annual) increase whenever that is scheduled to happen (and that of course sucks if it happens to be two months after you sign up, but is a common problem across providers).

      • Same for me (Brisbane)

  • It's amazing how much this stuff can vary.
I'm with GB for electricity (Outer SE Melb). My rates are .2101kWh and .979 supply.
My readings each month have also been (A)ctual, not (E)stimated as some are saying they're getting. These guys worked out considerably cheaper than what I was on (1st Energy), and better than any others for this area (and for our usage).

I'm with CovaU for gas though. Something I unfortunately won't have to worry about in the new house next year.

P.s. When people mention price / rate increases, are you checking to see if your state's default offer and/or distribution supplier pricing has changed? Because most rates you receive from an energy retailer are directly reflected by this set rate.

    • the complaints RE Estimates above are for Gas.

  • +2

I went with these (profanity) last year as they had the cheapest rate on the vic-government comparison site. 2 months later, they increased the price by 40%! Had to churn and ended up with a similar rate to what they originally offered.

  • +1

Our experience was reasonable - signed up to the super low rates they had last year and got the $50 credit. It took a long time to transfer, as others experienced. They put rates up twice a year, so I expected the big increase Jan 1, which is what happened. Monthly bills were actual readings as we have a smart meter and solar. So we ended up with 3-4 months of very cheap electricity, and then switched to the next best deal on offer. I've made peace with it - Australia's energy system unfortunately just requires checking offers every quarter or you'll be paying too much.

  • and they do a credit hard pull. Credit score alert!

  • scam company. always doing bait and switch, and if you miss a rate increase notice (which is a ridiculous large % increase) you will be slugged!

  • +2

The referral system sucks, I've tried messaging the person and don't get a reply. Can't change it to another one for me to sign up.

Does anyone have globird gas referral? Not the electricity one

    • Don't you just click on the referral link generator at the top of this page to get directed to a new person to message?

      • I did but didn't get a response for a while, finally got a response

Keep getting this: Sorry we cannot onboard this site on a market offer.

My electricity is part of an embedded network, however gas is seperate so not sure why it not work.

  • +2

It's a Bait & Switch. Moved in and out with GloBird. Be prepared for confusing bills, overestimated monthly costs, hiked rates after the move and additional fees. Wanted to disconnect on Dec 14 and was told my electricity provider can't come to do the final disconnection as they are closed for Christmas. Called Endeavour energy and they said no just ask GloBird to do a final read. They wanted to bill me usage charges unnecessarily till Jan. In the final bill got charged for disconnection and final read on an estimated cost. Don't fall for the trap you will save more by not going to GloBird.

"If the referred account is closed within the first 3 months, any already paid referral credit of will be reversed (clawback). GloBird Energy may at any time amend or discontinue this promotion without prior notice."
