hmm just paid $3.5/kg at Woolies

    • +4

      Lol. Wollies loves you

    • +18

And the farmers prob got $0.05/kg

      • If that

      • Less. If a market like Rochedale is selling them for $0.05 per kg, ColesWorth is probably buying for less than $0.05 per kg…

      WOKEWORTHS

    • +1

Woolies bought them for $0.01/kg while standing on the farmer's neck.

      • +2

What necks? They snapped them all off decades ago.

    • Just in case you didn’t get it yet - you got ripped off by Woolies. Again. But you’ll be back no matter how much they rub it your face lol

  • +1

Wow I wish I lived near Rochedale. They are around $4kg in Sydney!!!

    • they have those deals here too, they are the bananas that are over ripened and mushy. good for baking or smoothies, but probably not fun to eat the super soft mush bananas.

      • The ones on this deal are green Cavendish bananas from Innisfail. If I remember I'll reply again with a product review once I've eaten some.

    • +1

You can see that it's in Queensland, all bananas are bended.

      • That's our hobby.

  • Rochedale markets ftw. Love this place

  • +1

    ayo dats cheap!

even skippy's is doing em at 99c kg

  • -5

    They all look bent

    Explains the cheap price.

  • I wonder how much they bought them from the farmers.

    • for the farmers sake you'd hope this is some loss leader move to get people through the doors and pick up some incidentals while they are there eg milk eggs and other fruit n veg. Its kinda out of the way unless you happen to be doing the school run through there or similar.

    • +3

Much better to sell them than it is to toss them out. Bananas don’t have an infinite shelf life… the farmers would have been paid their usual rate, around $1 per kg.

      • +5

Buy them, freeze them and throw them into shakes.. i stock up 10s of kilos wherever they're on sale.

      • +2

the farmers would have been paid their usual rate, around $1 per kg.

        ..this..still seems really low…

    • +2

The other week they had watermelons for 10c each.

    • this normally occurs when its more expensive to send back to farmer so they give it away/ sell it for anything they can get (make a massive loss) box itself costs a dollar or so.

  • +3

Bargain! I'm over paying $4/kg+ in Sydney. Pre covid they used to be $1-2/kg max

    • Currently $3.50 in Sydney.

  • And I've just $1/kg at my local grocery shop and I thought it was a bargain. lol.

  • Lucky I don't live near there, or the chickens, dogs and missus would be eating nothing but bananas for a week.

    • +3

      the misso

      eating a banana

well it is valentines day todayyyyy

      • +1

        Ahhh, you're an ideas man!

  • That is awesome

    • +1

      You mean bananas.

  • Yep they often do 8c avos and 8c watermelons too, and the fruit is great too

  • Buy Green bananas to make chips (just like potato chips)

    • +1

      You mesn banana chips?

      • Yep

        • With a dehyrdator?

      • +1

I had to google 'mesn' and it corrected to 'mean; :-)

10 min from my work, and saw that they have 500g pre pack garlic for $2. just bought 1kg last week for $8.

Paying the premium to show real love.

  • Would be cheaper to buy a few boxes and ship them down to Melb. $4/kg here … really makes you want to cry with these crazy prices!!!

    • you know they only last a few days, are you able to eat a few boxes before they expire? $4kg isn't much when you only buy a few, lol. if you own a restaurant i would understand, but not for home consumption.

      • Bananas expire??? Since when? We don't eat them green, the more spots the better! When you have 3 teenage boys you don't just buy a few bananas, you need boxes of bananas!!!

  • what's wrong with them >.>

    • +1

Nothing, better than Cole's or Woolies fruit and veg

      • lol, a lot of them come from the same farmers.

        • Sure but maybe it's the mist they spray their veges with to make them weigh more or maybe it's the artificial smells they spray throughout the store and would attach to your fruits and veggies. Also stale air and the fact nothing actually gets cleaned properly there. Look at videos of an empty woolies and Cole's and the shelves have sticky residue and hairs on them 🤮

Store bananas in the fridge, they'll last longer, when ready to eat sit one in the sun for 10m. Slice up and dust with cinnamon and nutmeg for weight loss.

    • If they all ripen too much in the fridge, dump them in the freezer.

    • +1

The trick is to refrigerate them green (in a bag) and take them out to ripen. Refrigerated ripe bananas go a funny brown colour.

      • I only buy seven bananas at a time, the yellow ones last a week in the fridge.

  • All the single ladies can spoil themselves this Valentine's day.

    • With a comment like that, they would probably be better off with a banana.

  • +3

Another reason I should move to QLD.

    • +1

You'll only have to pay $180 to sleep on a couch in a 10 person sharehouse

      • Is there a new OzB post on its way for this?

  • Expired - their bananas are now 68c/kg.

    • Damn inflation sucks.

  • +1

Hmm they look yellow to me?
