  • Are these good? We desperately need something reliable that will extend the range of our wifi as the whole NBN gear is in the garage.

3 and a half years going on with my set of 3, no issues. FTTP.

Got the 2+router. No dramas. Not as much you can change, but works good and decent range. Only issue is smart devices can sometime have issues on the split 2.4/5 band as joint on these and cannot split them.

Only issue is smart devices can sometime have issues on the split 2.4/5 band as joint on these and cannot split them.

The big reason why people with smart devices won't buy these.

        • Agree. Got it on good sale and using a dlink for the smart devices.

      • Is the issue like the wifi not being picked up and shows as no internet connection?

    • I've had one since 2020~ on my HFC connection, one of them died (constant WAN dropouts - confirmed this by using another router) and had to fully replace the whole unit. I am on my second unit and I have the following bugs/issues (factory resetting the unit didn't solve any of the issues):

      • occasionally the wifi extender dies a very slow death and either goes offline completely or slowly degrades the throughput (which is then fixed by rebooting it manually)
      • if the wifi extender does go offline, it just stays offline until a hard reboot
      • the app is nice, however there is a dumb bug where you are unable to your authentication method from DHCP to PPPoE, really annoying if you swap ISP's regularly

some design issues/old tech which are really annoying:
      - while the app is "convenient" to connect to, scan and setup, I would find a web interface far easier to setup, but this does not have one
      - there is only 1 ethernet port
      - there is no logging output
      - google being google are assholes for designing their power plug to not fit anything next to it
      - not wifi 6

honestly, I'm just waiting for this thing to fully die so I can replace it with something better.

    • We have three and I haven't been impressed (3 story townhouse, with neighbors using high powered modems that might cause interruptions?)…
      - Nest points are no longer sold as Google has moved onto their Wifi 6E 'Nest Pro' product (this is Wifi 5), so you won't be able to buy more points in the future to extend range. Nest Pro is not backwards compatible with Nest Wifi
      - Poor range requiring more points than you would with other solutions
      - We need to regularly reset of the network to re-establish a strong connection between points (I have to do this every week or so)
      - Poor diagnostic tools. They've sacrificed function for simplicity (good for most, but not when you have issues)
      - Data privacy issues. Difficult to NOT share network info with Google

If you're upset NBN gear performance, these won't be better. I'm looking forward to upgrading to something that works and throwing these in the bin.

  • cute

Better to go with something that supports wifi 6 or 6e like the Google Nest Pro version.

Any deals at this price or is it just "people should" talk, without even paying attention to bigger flaws of these?

  • +1

I'm surprised this isn't permanently $200 nowadays. The $399 asking price (e.g "Clearance at Harvey Norman" is just nuts considering the router maxes at AC2200 and the satellite node is AC1200.

  • these are shite, have used and sold them in 15 days. They suppress your download speed, I am on 512mbps plan but never got more than 60mbps download on this. Tried to get google support on this but they said there is nothing wrong with it and said they cant replace them. Google and you would know how bad these are. https://www.reddit.com/r/GoogleWiFi/comments/izx86q/google_n…

    • Strange. Im on the 1000/50 plan and I get 970 on Ethernet. Sure you don't have an old Ethernet cable and running 100mbit? Try to swap it out. Had similar issue and the router was setting the port to 100mbit? Changed cables and got gig. Edit: just saw you sold it. Sorry. Need more coffee

  • I sold and bought Deco XE75 Pro and had to change nothing and it works like a dream. Getting 450+ speed without any issues.
