  • I miss the days of Micro SD and headphone jacks :( I need wired earphones as I need to listen to yt to fall asleep

    • +3

I grabbed a Nokkia X20 as a phone to use on the handlebars of my MTB a couple months ago instead of my Samsung s22u or a dedicated GPS. Thing has SD card, heaphone jack and now I am using them again I am thinking this will be the way forward for me, Its not as "snappy" and the pics aren't as good but those tradeoffs are OK for a "rugged" phone that cost a couple hundred on clearance at JB HiFi

Unless I go with a Foldable I am going to just stick to something like this going forward. I am loving having a headphone jack again ! I grabbed a cheap 12 month SIM from Coles for it.

I've always been a flagship phone user so it's pretty annoying how the expensive ones prompts you to buy more accessories than a budget phone. When the A7x (forgot the number) the one with expandable and headphone jack came out, I did consider going to it, but then JB had a sweet trade in deal for the Galaxy.

Dunno what's with the comments ragging me on my preferences 😂 like I haven't heard of wireless chargers or adapters, I don't find them convenient

        • +2

Yeah, there is no valid reason why flagship phones don't have a 3.5mm jack. They are not really any thinner than phones that do have them and it is clearly not a cost issue.

Which leaves it as a marketing "trend" (AKA brainlessly following the the dumb decisions others have made).

          • @Namesareapain: might be that the 3.5mm jack lets dirt in or people leverage the plug and cause breakages, or harder to seal against water …the usb c is hard enough to keep clean and not break in outdoor work environment, hence wireless charge for when usb c dies or you plug to keep dirt out.

    • These have a jack, there were senseheir??? with both bluetooth an corded. It was said the cord shut down the bluetooth, and one of the bays can take an Micro SD if you only use one sim.

How did you manage not to destroy/rip the cord while sleeping?

      • +1

I really don't know what your first paragraph is about. I've been using my usb c earphones fine since flagships stopped having them, just a $20 one no issue with the wire. Obviously I PREFER to have a headphone jack so I don't have to choose between charging my phone or going to sleep sometimes as the s22 drains like a mofo.

Jeez guys calm your farm. I'm just talking about my personal preferences. I'm not a fan of wireless chargers or buying a double adapter or whatever. I have a phone ring holder that makes my phone not sit flat.

        • +2

I use corded charge because it’s fast … don’t keep phones longer than 2 years so usb c socket issues have only happened once and was repaired under warranty.

There are so many solutions to your problem. You can use wireless earphones with the added effect of noise cancellation. You can use usb-c to headphone adapters and wirelessly charge your phone.

      • +1

I have wireless earbuds, can't use it as I unconsciously pull out the earphones. I don't want to wirelessly charge my phone all night or buy more things when I can just use wired??? I'm using a usb c one but it's a bit of a pain if I'm using it then forget to charge before I sleep.

"I need wired earphones as I need to listen to yt to fall asleep"

      ???
What on earth are you talking about?

      • +1

To listen to YouTube to fall asleep, the only thing that really helps. If I use wireless, ill have to look for it every morning and charge it

        • Have you tried Apple TV? Works much faster for me.

          • @Its4me: I dont have Apple TV or any Iphones, are you talking about a mobile app? My BIL added me to his family plan so I'm freeloading Youtube Premium off him :) normal Youtube just stops when I lock the phone

  • Can anyone recommend a phone case for this? I don't know if these take the same case as other models and if they fit multiple models from my searches. This says compatible which i assume is the same but don't want to buy it and find it is not the same, one link says Motorola G30 (not below) and the one below is E7 and E7 Power option. I found a black one but i need a different colour to my old phone case, I want the window inside and the card holder plus magnetic tab clip.

Link to item on ebay: https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/233973312177?itmmeta=01HPRE0PZ0X…

Look on Aliexpress. I just saw a magnetic leather one with card holder, doesn't really have a window but it had a hole so you can push out the card easier. I can't link aliexpress links here otherwise the comment just gets hidden

    • comes with a silicon case

  • This vs pixel 7?

    • this 1/2 price of the pixel 7, wait for pixel 8 prices to drop , google are going 5 yrs of updates to compete with apple on the pixel 8.

      • thinking about giving my pixel 7 to my partner and buying this - just want to know the like for like comparison

      • Pixel 7 is on Android 14 now, should get Android 16 second half of 2025 and security updates till October.

Nothing wrong with that for a decent Android you can get on sale below $500 I think.

  • Doesn't seem like any stock in Vic but can get it delivered for $5 and waiting 2 weeks

    • +1

Hmm.. it says available at Moorabbin

      • +2

Oh yeah haha I tried the other colour first and that was out of stock

Now I've also ordered one for pick up from Moorabbin!

        • Also looks like Dandenong still has stock if that's near you.

Motorola phones have the karate chop torch toggle feature, which makes this deal even better value. I'm not sure how I'd ever use another phone now, the shake torch is used many times every day.

  • Thanks OP. Bought 2 for a Japan trip in April. I'll claim TRS as well. The eSim will come in very handy with Airalo 50% off :)

For those who prefer to get an upfront $40 off, you can request for a code from here.

  • Big W has similar deal at $248 with free delivery.

      • Similar but not the same. Like I said, free delivery of you can't get it from tgg

  • This must be one of the cheapest androids with eSim, and is the way to go and as AMD is doing, provides the opportunity to get a data sim online when OS. Been hoping that I could get Boost sim (sim 1) to do VoWifi calling through the data of a local roaming esim(sim 2). This seems to be possible in iPhones and some of the Samsungs. There needs to be a setting under mobile network to activate "data sharing" or "backup calling". Tried in Hong Kong recently with a local Airalo data esim but no success. Going to try in New Zealand. Boost Vowifi works on the hotel WiFi, but not via sim 2 data card.

  • How do you get the 18% cashback. I only see up to 4% cashback on Shop Back.

  • Dammit

I was going to get one of these for a travel phone. I wouldn't have said no to an 18% cashback.
