buying 2 of the single units gives you an additional 10%. Makes it $70.20 for 2 x single units.

    • hell yeah this comment, op needs to update post

    • +3

The real deal is always in the comments

    • +2

      I cancelled my original order and reordered 2 x 1 👍

  • +1

Running 4 x C210's from last Harvey Norman deal. Works well. Only complaint is power is mains adapter (no USB-C option), and there is no PC software. Otherwise it's great

    • +1

Mine are still on backorder from that deal…

      • Mine were on backorder for a month, so I sent them a message about it and was shipped next day

        • +2

I sent them a message also and they cancelled my order 1 hour later lol

          • @rambao9: Bugger, Amazon deal is better though. Mine got sent from Maroochydore QLD to Port Kennedy WA, possibly the longest distance between stores so maybe they didn't have many left by that stage.

      • Mine was on backorder but some stores have received stock so you should be able to get it now. I’m getting mine delivered now.

Talk to them in chat via their website and they should be able to sort it out.

      • +8

Because in 2024 everything should be USB C.

Lose/break the adaptor? Good luck finding another. Maybe TP Link might sell you one but probably cost more than buying another whole camera.

Want a different cable length? Tough shit.

And it will take up a whole wall plug.

And you can't run it off a USB battery bank.

          • +3

@jv: Both of my TP-Link Kasa cameras have USB connector for power and came with a USB adaptor in a box. From the manufacturer's perspective there's not much difference between supplying one type of adaptor or another. And if they decide to sell the camera without a PSU, you can expect it to be cheaper. Also, who doesn't have a shitload of USB chargers laying around in their home?

            • -4

              @mangoed:

From the manufacturer's perspective there's not much difference between supplying one type of adaptor or another.

              These ones are 9V

              • +2

@jv: Many devices can use USB 5V as long as the device doesn't exceed the wattage of the USB charger. They contain a DC to DC boost converter, or if it needs less voltage a buck converter. Those sort of cameras may actually use 9v or even 12v internally, but choose to use USB 5v as they are plentiful and very replaceable by user if a fault with it were to arise

            • +1

              @mangoed:

doesn't have a shitload of USB chargers

usb a/b sure…c though, im thinking i need to find a deal to stock up on a few spares the way things are going .

          • -1

@jv: Oh no. The charger you can buy from $10 from almost every supermarket, department store and electronics store in the world.

Which would also be included in the box with the device.

            • -3

              @Presence:

The charger you can buy from $10 from

That would increase the price of this 2-pack by $20.

              • -1

@jv: Why would providing the most common charger made (by orders of magnitude) cost more than a non USB charger?!?!

                • -5

                  @Presence:

Why would providing the most common charger made cost more

Because they would need to invest more money to redesign them… Then they would have to refit the factory to build the new design.

Why don't you just buy a different model that has the features you want?

This one is fine for me, and fine for lots and lots of others that don't need usb-c

    • yep got a pair, pretty good

    • +1

      is c210 better?

      • Tapo C210 has 3Mp resolution and C200 supports 1080P.

      • +1

C210 is 1536p, so better resolution than 1080p. C210 can also be set to 1080p if needed.

    • Do you need to pay subscription to use it?

      • No but there are limitations without the subscription.
Without it you can record video to SD cards and view it online but they aren't stored on the cloud and you can't download the videos unless you are connected to the same network.

    • @cyrax83, this might not have all the app features but the Tapo app lets you enable RTSP if you want to view the streams on your PC. If you have a computer you can use as a server there is software like AgentDVR/ispy. I'm not sure if it hooks into the cloud or SD recording from the cameras but it might be worth looking at if you're interested.

      • Interesting i'll have to check it out. I think the only issue was that with RTSP you couldn't view or playback history. Only live view worked

  • +3

Wish I could use these on the Kasa app or vice versa, so annoying the TP-link cameras are split down two brands.
    Great deal though!

  • -6

They've been this price for a few months now.

  • anybody use these as baby monitor? is it recommended? this one is much cheaper than dedicated baby monitors

    • -1

anybody use these as baby monitor? is it recommended?

The app has a feature to detect the baby crying for notifications, so yes.

    • +3

personally prefer a monitor that doesn't need to send data into the ether somewhere.

      • I second this. First monitor we had used an app and wifi. Various problems later we now use a stand alone base/camera.

    • +2

I got the C210 on the last sale, works great as a baby monitor. Just sends a notification to your phone when it detects crying, in my experience its quite sensitive which is good for bub, not so much for my kids screaming playing up the other end of the house setting it off. But, it does work. I work on my computer all day every day, so I setup an onvif streamer and just have it running in the background all day on low volume, if I hear a baby crying I check it out. My wife leaves it streaming on her phone when bubs is asleep. Works great for us :)

Only thing that doesn't work is the google streaming. I have a Nest Hub Max in the living room and hoped to ask google to stream it any time bubs asleep, it works, but the max session length is like 5 minutes which is utterly useless. Havent been able to find a solution yet.

      • +1

Check out Scrypted. Might be able to help you out.

  • Does it make random noises as the camera moves at night

    • +1

Not from the camera itself but you do hear the noise from within the app when manually using the on screen controls to move it.

    • +1

It does make some noise when you turn it, but it's not random.

    • +1

It has a patrol mode, I've never left it on… but the few times I ticked it on whilst testing it just spun the camera around in circles, didnt seem useful.

I have one in a bedroom and you wouldn't be able to sleep with it moving all night, the motor makes more noise than I'd be happy hearing at night. I can't really imagine a scenario where you'd want it in patrol mode in a bedroom though, but each to their own.

  • +1

Anyone have any experience adding these into Home Assistant? I saw a review saying a subscription is needed… Is this bull tish?

    • +2

I would also like to know if these can be used without a subscription.

    • +4

Yes they could be added to HA through HomeAssistant-Tapo-Control from HACS.
And it's local. You may need to go to advanced settings on tapo app and turn on the ONVIF.
Then all camera control and many settings/sensors as well as main/sub stream will pop up in HA.
Personally I use blue iris and some how made it work with HA.

      • Thanks! I also have Synology Survillence Station which seem to be supported so I might give them a try.

        • I setup a couple of the 210 cameras in Surveillance Station yesterday - no issues.

      • You don't exactly turn on ONVIF/RTSP (there's no option to do that) in the Tapo app, you create an account (user and pass) which enables them.

    • +4

these are pretty easy to add into HA, and can setup a dasboard card to control the camera movement etc

    • I have these on a VLAN with no internet access hooked up to Frigate (FOSS NVR system), which in turn is linked into home assistant, all using docker. :)

it was a fun little project and is working well so I've ordered a few more!

  • +1

just a general comments on how can we trust these cameras that it does not have any spying agent or technology/device is not exposed to the unknown person?

    • +4
      1. Turn on onvif
      2. Put it on a vlan that prevents internet access.
      3. Use your nvr (like blue iris)
      • Is Blue Iris a free software? Any good NVR software that is free?

        • No it's not free. It's potentially the best software nvr on the market. The downside side is it's Windows only.
A popular free one these days is frigate - mostly because of its strong AI.

  • -2

It's really crap you can't connect it to the hub from this deal https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/819141
Infact you can only connect the c400 and c420 camera to the hub
Which forces you to pay subscription for cloud storage

    • +3

You can just put a microSD card in the camera

    • +1

Which forces you to pay subscription for cloud storage

Mine work absolutely fine, without a subscription.

  • -5

    i use eufy…

  • can confirm this one work really well to monitor my two kittens.

  • I"m reading older reviews this camera can't even trigger tapo's own smart lights or power plugs

Is that true? That's kind of crap
Or if it can trigger can it do it without a paid subscription?

    • +1

I've got a C210 and I can use the motion and crying detect in the camera to trigger my P100 plugs. No subscription required.

    • Just had a look at the app, i don't have tapo smart power points, i use smartthings to triger, but the app has the ability to create custom automation with other devices on the app.

I assume that means it works.

These are some of the most reliable little cameras i have tried and work well with synology.

I also use them for monitoring the puppuccinos.

    • +1

Can confirm you can do whole bunch of trigger options as per time/device or delay actions without a subscription.

  • +1

I would love to see a C210's special. And yes, enable ONVIF protocol and add to your existing NVR. :)

    • +2

It's not quite the best price seen but the C211 (black version of the C210) is $51.58ea on Amazon. Ships internationally though and no discount for multi-buy.
Unfortunately still nowhere near as good as last years HN 2-for-1 deal.

      • Thanks mate. I would assume it probably ships with a non AU plug. Yeah that deal was good from HN!

  • Can these connect to cocoon or Tuya Smart app

  • Do they need the tapo hub?

    • no

      • Not sure who negged but I can confirm these cameras don't need the hub. Only the battery operated sensors (eg, temperature, door open) and switches need the hub.

        • I can confirm these cameras don't need the hub

          yep… I'm using 3. They are great.

  • +1

Would you be able to view the feed from these cameras on a google home display?

  • +1

    Just bought some.
It’s my first foray into cameras at home.
The jargon in the comments is heavy duty for me.
Any tips for websites / forums to learn about best setup?

    • +2

They are plug and play. Have an SD card for full functionality

  • +1

Can these can be outdoor cameras with continuous recording? Thanks in advance

    • +1

      No.

Camera housing isn't rated for outdoor usage, you'll likely get water ingress that'll eventually kill it?

Probably just do it properly with some non-battery powered reolinks powered via PoE or something.

  • +1

I have the earlier C100 cameras and quite happy with them. I have them pointed outside from in windows, and other than having to turn off the IR, they're perfect.

Record to SD, no cloud, no subscription.

    • Why do you have to turn off IR?

  • +1

For those who got the spend $60 at Amazon offer with your AMEX card, you get $10 back

  • I read the info on Tapo website, it say,

"Safe Storage: Locally stores up to 512 GB on a microSD card, providing a secure and cost-effective way to store footage."

but then goes on to say further down the page, "A microSD card stores up to 128 GB, equal to 384 hours (16 days) of footage. This allows you to not only cut down on your personal expenses on cloud storage, but also feel secure that your video is stored at a high-rate speed on a local card accessible only by the device administrator. (Based on laboratory conditions)"

Anyone confirm whether this supports upto 128gb or 512gb SD cards?

Also, if it's wifi, can you connect to the home network and save video directly to desktop PC instead of SD?

    • +2

I have been using one with 256 gb and it works fine even if it says it supports only upto 128gb

      • What happens if it reaches storage capacity? Does it continue saving by overriding older files (like car dashcam)?

        • Yes. Loop recording.

  • Whats the app like for these?
Ai detection any good? Will it give me a thousand notifications for a leaf blowing in the wind?

  • Any opinions on this compared to ops
