Same price for the black version at Rebel btw (deal already posted).

      Think that's non sapphire

      • +1

No the Rebel deal is the sapphire glass. Its the titanium version.

        • Second this. Purchased it from Rebel a while ago and it's the Sapphire version.

      • +1

It’s definitely Sapphire. Got it yesterday and the box says it on there.

        • +3

Thanks mate, I've removed the comment in the post about the rebel not being sapphire glass.

I checked out the link and couldn't see it anywhere on the page and they had seperate listings specifying sapphire models. Weird!

        • That's reassuring. I bought the Rebel deal posted at the weekend and wasn't sure if it was the sapphire version.

  • Sapphire Black 51mm for a similar price, and I'd be all over it.

    • +7

Look, size isn't everything and as for stereotyping based on colour? Disgraceful!

Oh, watches. Sorry, as you were.

      • +1

Mate if you think 51mm is anything to crow about I feel sorry for you :p

        • +5

          Hey, it's 4mm more than what I've got. :(

  • +2

Damn! need a deal on a 42mm sapphire version

  • +3

Would love to upgrade for this price but yeah it's not a need. Thanks for the post

I have the 935 currently and I'm in the same boat.

  • +1

This was recently available for the same price + potentially 18% cashback from TGG, can't say for sure as I slept on it and missed the deal :(

  • I’ve got this and the sapphire is no joke. I’ve accidentally brushed my arm across walls (I’m clumsy) and there’s no scratches after a few months.

On the tech side it’s been pretty neat use it for swimming and hiking and it’s pretty decent at tracking

  • Are people generally happy with Garmin? I have used one of their lower level watches about 3 years ago and it was fine, but I since switched to iOS and have an Apple Watch Ultra.

iOS really does not work for me as a lifelong Android user and I am seriously thinking about moving back…BUT, the Apple Watch is really amazing.

Not sure what to do. The iOS issues are kinda deal-breakers. They prevent me from using the phone as I would normally use it with Android (like basic tethering doesn’t work at all and hasn’t since I switched in Jan 2022). Then there’s just the plethora of bugs that come with every update.

I’m on a 13 Mini, and I think that could be the reason for my woes, as I am finding typing on it to be rage inducing… but I feel this will be the last year I am on iOS… but I really don’t wanna lose the Apple Watch.

    • Tethering works fine over on iOS.

Typing in a small screen is harder, I have a 12 mini but you do get use to it.

Bugs? Nothing showstopping in my end.

      • +1

Tethering does not work fine on iOS…there are many posts about it on Reddit and other forums.
It disconnects regularly when in use. This happens via USB tethering to a portable WiFi router and when it’s done wirelessly via the phone.

I often try to share my data across Android and iOS devices and it simply disconnects at random intervals.

        • I have gone all day with it on when I am out at a conference. Never had a drop out. I don't use USB tethering though, just the hotspot tether.

        • Hello from the Terrible Tethering club. I have a similar experience with my 14 Pro Max so I don’t think it’s just your 12 mini. At least I can type though.

    • Yes very happy. Picked one of these up before Christmas during the same sort of deal (must be clearing stock for the new model).

Much better than my fitbits ever were, which they would want to be considering the price.

      Exercise tracking is excellent.

      Battery life is excellent.

Nap tracking is hit or miss, sleep tracking is ok-ish.

Missing a few things like weight and hydration tracking that you need to rely on the app store for.

      • Garmin has hydration and weight tracking built in. My Fenix 6 pro prompts me for hydration after each workout (can be turned off).

Also tells me I’m a fat bloke at various times too… uses weight for lots of calcs.

        • From the Connect App. Not from the watch. Which is a lot easier than reaching for your phone.

          • @tomlut: Sorry mate. Still not sure what you mean.

On the Connect phone app, there’s an Add Data button on the Home /My Day screen. You can add weight and hydration data there.

On the watch, it’s via the widget.

    • What do you want from it that you're happy with on the Apple watch?
I really enjoy the physical buttons on Garmin, no messing around with touchscreen, unless you want to.
Garmin's sleep tracking was pretty poor in the past but seems to be much better on new models

      • +1

It’s the smart watch functionality - phone calls, texts and general notifications. I also like the navigation features when driving

        • I'm only really familiar with Fenix and forerunner but I don't think Garmin's good for that. No mic and the only speaker beeps for alarms, not for speakerphone.
You can get notifications, respond with preset messages (no typing)
Maybe there's other Garmin models that are good for that but you might be better off looking at Samsung or pixel watches if you want to get back on Android

          • @based: Yeah the Pixel Watch is the only one I’d consider. Hopefully the 3rd Gen has a larger design and is more robust

    • Biggest reason why I wouldn’t go back to Apple Watch is the pathetic battery life. CBF to charge it so often, I usually forget to charge and it sits in the drawer. So happy with Garmin.

  • Wonder if there's a Epix Gen 3 just around the corner. This model is a few years old now and doesn't have the new/updated HR monitor as the Pro model has. I'm tempted to upgrade from my Fenix 6 but I don't think there's any significant upgrades (apart from the screen).

    • I'm on the same boat… I think I'll wait, my 6S is still doing great.

  • Tried to stack with 25% off. Didn't work

I did a lot of research on this deal last week and ended up going for the FR 965 instead, Epix Gen 2 is 2 years old now and seems to fall in the middle of the road between the 965 and the Epix Pro, plus this $850 price has been going on for a few months now in various colours so I suspect clearing old stock for a new model. I know it's not the same line of watches but worth considering.

FR 965 currently on sale for $850 at Topline Cycles too, though I got Rebel to price match plus got $42.50 in bonus credit ($5 per $100 spent)

    • Does FR 965 have sapphire glass ?

      • Unfortunately not, titanium bezel with gorilla glass. Pretty much the only let down

        • Gorilla Glass is heaps better. Have you seen the reflections with sapphire? it's really bad and hard to see the time.

      • Doesn't sapphire have worse visibility?

    • I would prefer Venu 3 as it’s newer and better sensor.

I have a Fenix 6x Sapphire and waiting for either Epix 3 or Apple X end of this year. Whichever launches first. Wish Apple had better batter.

I have AIA Vitality and can kind of get Apple watch for free.

      • +1

Venu 3 is a nice watch too but only has navigation and no maps, so a bit of an easier choice for people. The software on 965 and Epix 2 are 99% identical so it pretty much comes down to the build quality you're looking for. 965 being lighter, bigger and clearer screen, Epix 2 being heavier and more durable. I think the options are either the 965, Epix Pro, or wait for the Epix 3 but people can spend their money how they wish

  • Easy to get Rebel gift card for 5% off which brings the black one from the other deal down to almost $800

  • Do I get this or Fenix 7? There's hardly any difference (using for cycling and running rain hail or shine)

    • Mips or oled screen? I am bored of Mips and will Epix 3 when it launches.

      I have a Garmin 530 for cycling.

  • Anyone know if using Bupa rewards discount, that's off the usual price, or the discounted?

    • +1

BUPA rewards is via Garmin’s website (which - even though I have not checked, likely is the full RRP)

      • Yes I know, and they currently have this same watch also for $849 (hence the question).
