Can anyone who has this vouch for how well it cools and how loud it gets?
    Thanks!

I can vouch it's going to be louder than you expect…

I had an older Midea 4kW and it was very noisy. Not just the fan whirring but also the compressor clunking when it turns on/off and humming whilst it is running. Also the label showed max input of 1730W, so it can suck some power. But it did work. I remember one bad night I couldn't sleep because the heat was making my skin feel prickly, so I bought the portal a/c the next day, and the noise+bill was worth the tradeoff for cooler temps.

  • Would this 4kw portable be equal to a 4kw wall mounted split in coolling capability?

    • +3

Impossible. Consider where the heat from the cooling process is being exhausted…

      Nope not even close.

I had a portable Hyundai 4kw in a 3m x 3m room and although it cooled it down, it wasn't anywhere near as good as 2.5kw wall unit.

It was also noisier, so I wouldn't recommend sleeping in the same room, but if it's a study or office, just chuck your headphones on.

      All portable units are noisy.

These things are always a compromise and are referred to as 'spot coolers'. They do a reasonable job in a small space such as a bedroom, but tend to be a bit noisy (fan). One trick is to keep the exhaust run as short as possible, and keep the water up to it to keep the condenser coil cool.

What do you mean by "keep the water up to it"?

    • Yeah not sure what you mean by "keep the water up to it" either. These things draw alot of humdity/moisture from the air, and the better designed ones will "dry out" this collected water (even though they all have a tank) so that you DON'T need to empty the tank in the morning. The last thing you want to be doing is putting more water in these things.
