  • That's a great price … will need to look in to how these compare to the other QC models

    • +1

I returned the 45 and bought 35ii second hand. No ragrets! The newer ANC tech tries (and fails) to cancel short sharp sounds. Other more common issues in the comments.

      • Yes! I’ve mentioned this on other deals. Such a disappointment :(
Surely Bose could fix this with a firmware update?

    • I've had them for about a year and whilst they're certainly not perfect, I've been very happy with them.

Biggest gripe is that they have an acknowledged issue when connected to 2 devices at once where the sound drops very briefly every 10 minutes or so. Bose are aware of it but refuse to (or can't) fix it.

Otherwise they're great. The only headphones I've ever had that I can wear for 5+ hours and have no discomfort with at all. They really are extremely comfortable.

And for those who were also wondering, the only difference between the regular QC45 and the SE is that the SE comes with a soft bag rather than the hard shell case

      • Is the multi-connection bug in the other QC headphones (QC45, QC, QC Ultra) too? Thank you.

        • Not sure about the Ultra's or earlier models, but it's definitely in the QC45s and 45 SEs

This issue goes back to when these were launched 3+ years ago too (Eg https://www.reddit.com/r/bose/comments/q1a78h/qc45_cut_out_o…) so I'm not expecting Bose to ever issue a fix. When I spoke to support about it they just said I should return them and they would refund.

So if sign up to Perks I get a $10 off coupon that takes this down to $235 right?

  • +2

Happily holding onto to my 700s for now but this is a solid deal.

  • +1

I have to say the sound quality is pretty average and useless for calls as well. Always get complaints from people saying they can barely hear me, even in a quiet environment. The only positives i can say about it are the compact size, comfort and noise cancelling performance.
I haven't touched this since getting the B&W P7 s2. It leaves the Bose dead in every area except noise cancelling

    • +1

700s are the one to get if you want call quality. One of the few major differences

      • +1

No issues with call quality on my px7 s2.
Bose 700 won't come close in terms of sound quality

    • I might check out the B&Ws. My Bose QC35iis recently died and I liked them but they always seemed just a little short of my expectations.

      • Px7 s2e is supposed to be another step up from px7 s2 so i think you will be pleased coming from Bose. I do however only notice a big difference when playing high res audio on tidal via aptx hd codec.

        • Interested if you ever tried out the sennheiser momentum's. I have a few pairs but wondering how they stack up against the Px7 s2 in your view?

          • @Ostrich: I have sampled the momentum at the shops but couldn't make a fair comparison since i didn't get to compare back to back with the same audio source.

I've been thinking about upgrading to the px8 myself but not sure if it's worth the extra coin (probably not)

    • So P7x p2s should be a better unit for listening music?
How does it stand against Bose QC Ultra and Sony Mx5?

      • Px7 s2 will be leaps and bound better than qc45 for music listening. Can't comment on qc ultra as I've not tried it.
Sony xm5 once again will be inferior for music listening unless all you want is thumping bass

  • +3

Something worth knowing about these is it's not possible to turn off the active noise cancelling, unless you are running them wired. This can be pretty frustrating when wearing them outside and there's wind, or in other noisy environments where the ANC struggles.

    • What about their advertised aware mode? Is that different to turning off ANC?

      • +1

Amplifies the sounds outside, so yes, different to no ANC

    • +2

On the QC35ii model (which appears to be very similar to this), you use the app to customize one of the buttons to turn off noise cancellation.
Update: QC35ii has the function to turn off ANC, but the QC45se doesn't. Weird.

  • +1

Microphone quality is poor. QC35s are better

  • Were $205 with Student Bean. + Don't wanna give JB money until they improve their (some) staff behaviour. Under 2.0 on product review and trustpilot. Hope you don't get harrased one day. Good when it's good.

    • improve their (some) staff behaviour

Got a story you want to tell us? or have told us before?

Under 2.0 on product review and trustpilot

Many major retailer's online stores are under a 2 on product review.

      • You want to read through the Google Review if you think product review and trustpilot are not up to scale (tho harvey norman got over 2.0 lol). Plenty of stories like "The worst and most rude service" you can find, more or less from stores to stores, which they never response (or even read?).

        • +1

Any specific? From a range of stores on Google Reviews, once again, it looks like they're in line with other stores.

I also don't see other majors responding to comments.

          • @ihfree:

they're in line with other stores

What do you mean by that? You agree that they never respond (or even read)? Some other stores/business's do response.

Btw, are you associated and forgetting to declare it? I do have bad personal experiences with date and time freshly still in memory so I raise it on here.

  • great ANC but no high res codecs

    • +1

I don’t think anyone is caring about high res codecs and looking at headlines like this. Even studio monitor graphics would require silent room to and a huge amount of attention and practice to tell the difference hey.

      • -1

not really true, depends on one's hearing. me I can tell difference between AptX and SBC especially if I want to listen to music while I work or commute. But I have musical education and hearing. I went through a long list of ANC wireless headphones and settled for Px7 S2e. ANC doesn't match the leaders like this one or xm4, but music reproduction is miles ahead of everything else I tried

        • Exactly, you would have to listen in a silent room. Atpx isn’t high def. Aptx hd is.

Can you tell the difference between aac and ldac for instance.

          • -1

@onlinepred: yeah I meant AptX HD. not silent room, you can hear highs even on a plane, and lower quality codecs won't give you clear highs in most songs, it's a dead giveaway

            • -1

@shabaka: My xm4 with ldac sounds terrible with ANC on a plane, I have zero clue how you can hear it when ANC literally covers up frequencies. Your hearing must be so good, your brain makes up missing frequencies.
I mean if you can tell then distance between aac and aptx hd with anc on which literally cuts frequencies while on a plane, that’s insanely impressive.

  • Does anyone have any suggestions for replacement ear pads? Mine came apart after about a year of wfh use.
Audio quality is good, the inbuilt microphone is shocking though.

    • +2

I got some cheapies off eBay/amazon which do the job.

    • Get the genuine Bose ear cushions, all the 3rd party ear cushions don't come close.

      • +3

My experience with the QC35IIs was the generic ear cushions from Ebay lasted at least as long as the ones I got from Bose, maybe even longer.

        • Nowhere near as comfortable though, get what you pay for and if you have to wear them all day……

          • +2

@scooba: Yeah, again I didn't find that. Maybe we've just got drastically different shaped heads

            • @Gustave: Possibly? My ears don't stick out but I know the difference between real comfort / genuine ear cushions and C grade comfort / cheap and nasty knock offs.

But hey, who am I to judge what another persons comfort level is?

    • I have QC35ii and replaced my pads a few times with originals from Bose/JB.

I recently tried the "WC Freeze QC35 - Cooling Gel Ear Pads for Bose QC35" from Amazon - they had mostly good reviews; I don't like them. They're 'deeper' than the originals, and not as comfortable. I can't notice any cooling (maybe QLD summer is too much for it to overcome). And they don't seal as well as the originals, so I can hear outside noise more.

I used them for about 2 months and just swapped back to my originals - immediately like them better.

I'd recommend getting originals. If there are some cheap one that are really similar, I might try them out (specially in summer when sweating which may degrade them faster), but I'll always have originals ready to put on if cheap ones aren't good.

  • +2

I literally just returned them. Fit was great, sound was great but the ANC can only be on quiet mode or aware. You cant turn it off and when on (quiet mode) could feel some pressure on my ears from the ANC. Just couldnt get used to the discomfort. Never really needed them to block excess noise out as I sit in a quiet office.

    • +1

On these days most BT headphones work such way. Wierd.

  • +1

Awesome pair of headphones for the price if you never use the microphone.

The pros are comfort (partner can wear them through several movies without any discomfort), long battery life and simplicity in controls.

There are not many other headphones in the same price bracket - Anker is promising and cheaper but the headband does not suit my larger head and the Sony XM4s are a steup up in price and just too warm for my larger ears. Sometimes I also just want a neutral sound profile without the bass heavy effects of the Sony.

All are great but the Bose at this price is a lot of value for the money.

    • Was hoping to get some other thoughts on the Anker?

  • +1

Has anyone here compared these to the new QC Ultra? Are the Ultra worth 2x the price?

    • +2

If you'll ask me, this one is more comfortable. I have both, the QC ultras sound better but if you are after comfort go with this one.

  • +4

These are amazing (honestly, top tier) if you just want them for travel.

If you want them for anything else, then you should look at alternatives.

  • +1

Excellent bang for buck, I only use it for music and it sounds great. I don't care if it's not good for call quality at this price.

  • Thx OP, my 5 yr old Sony XM3 can finially retired.

    • +1

I replaced my XM3s last year with these and still thinking about trying to get the XM5s on the upgrade program. I love the comfort of the Bose which is awesome for watching movies, but if you enjoyed the sound of the Sonys, the Bose is definitely lacking imo.

      • +1

Have wondered this vs the BOSE. Love my Sony's

  • The lowest it has been is around $209 I think, which hopefully would see it at that price again.

  • Just picked these up, to give my BB Pro's a break. Too bad they merged with HP..

  • I can’t believe that product copy is real

  • these are great, the fact that I can wear them for hours on end is amazing (I've always felt over the ear headphones annoying)
the most favoured headphones in the house.
they were a bargain at $300 in October - great at this price

  • My Bose QuietComfort 45 SE lasted 3 months. Sent them back to Bose and apparently they will be replaced with non-SE version.. bit interesting. Wonder if SE have known issues.

    • I thought they're the same unit. The SE has the soft cover case. I wonder how it died so soon?

      • Yes you are correct, they are the same unit just comes with different case.

        • +1

They are slightly different. The new QuietComfort (non 45/SE) has a different sound profile - more bass and less treble. Also achieves 2 hours more battery life. Other than that, and physically, they are the same.

      • sound on one side died, charged for a few hours.. it worked, then both sides had no sound. Power light was flickering/dim. Replacement painless so far, RMA generated instantly online with a postage sticker; it arrived at Bose in Sydney yesterday.. lets see how long it takes them to process and send me a replacement.

    • Same with me had to return it back as the microphones were barely effective and picked up a lot of background noise. Totally useless to use the headset to call when outdoors and in some cases indoor as well.
They replaced it last week with the latest QC and it took only 4 days.

  • Bloody missed it. so quick..

  • Is there a code to enter as when I click on the JBHi-Fi link to the deal it is showing up as $329?

    • +1

      It ended at 9am AEDT.

  • $329 now - I paid $249 on 9/12/23 for the previous deal - but hey I'm wearing QC45 now - having also had QC15, 35, and 35ii the improvement here, that the earlier models don't have, is the Bose Music app allows EQ adjustment - 3 sliders for bass, mid and treble I have at Bass -10, Mid 0, Treble +10 to suit my old man loss of hearing about 8KHz - obvs YMMV

my QC45 only came in black while the previous ones we have are all silver - the only difference between the QC45 and the SE is apparently the SE has a soft case, while the QC45 (non SE) has a hard case - I don't use the case unless travelling overseas so I don't need the case.

but yeah wearing it now and listening to the sweet sounds of https://www.npr.org/2023/06/09/1180386402/babyface-tiny-desk…

so I can recommend - and for anyone who imagines earbuds provide anything like the same noise cancelling for noisy environments, I can assert that is just not the case, and over-ear provides a lot of noise cancelling when the same brand earbuds provide almost none. So if you want noise cancelling, these are what you want.
