never knew about this, how do you access if you're an origin customer?

        • +2

Log into https://www.originenergy.com.au/ then go to My Account > My Profile > Rewards & Offers

          • @Foodsallad: Or just install the mobile app

          • @Foodsallad: I have an electricity plan with them, but I'm still not eligible for some reason.

Sorry, it looks like your account isn’t eligible for Origin rewards

            • +1

@bio: Yeah, I'm getting the same thing. I've messaged them to ask why.

              • @Robertiton: Can confirm they've unlocked rewards (incl. The Good Guys Commercial) for me after I emailed them.

ART will allow you to have it.
Australian Retirement Trust, one of best Superannuation company I have ever used.
Performed little over $10,000 growth in last 12 months investment (standard life cycle portfolio)

      • +9

        $10,000 growth on what funds? $100,000 @ 10% is great. $1,000,000 @1% notso much.
They are showing 8+% over the last 12 months on their website.

        • +1

I got $40k investment returns on $200k balance over last 12 months. Nearly double the employer contributions. Unclear if actually good investments or just inflation everywhere in stocks.

Also ART does the jn hifi and good guys commercial memberships.

          • @LuckyDrew: Who that with?

          • @LuckyDrew:

I got $40k investment returns on $200k balance over last 12 months.

That's 20%. Even their highest risk Growth portfolio made 11.7% in the last 12 months:

@bio: Well I don’t know what to tell you. It wasn’t a default option - majority was international shares. And that data is from year ending September 2023. Have a gander at Vanguard international shares etf for the last 12 months - up 25%.

              Inflation man.

      • Great share! I have access via this method. Though unfortunately I can't seem to find any android phones whatsoever available? I have iPhones/Apple watches but a search for Pixel only gives me the tablets and watches. Anyone else seeing this?

        • That's happening to me as well. not sure if there is some sort of restrictions for the corporate users

  • Man that's crazy. Got my mother a google 7 on Telstra a year or two ago for the same price…. As if the 7A is only dropping to this price now.

    • +1

Sounds like you got a great deal!

      • +2

Must've been a year ago, as pixel 7 only came out 16 months ago. Would've been a good deal.

    • +1

That's a VERY good deal, despite the 7 not existing 24 months ago, either way, if it was the 7 that was very cheap (haven't seen it that low new), as this is the 7a.

    • On a contract? If so, not a deal.

      • Yeah I think he's talking about a contract. I too can get a $2000 phone for $0 upfront if I go on a $200 monthly plan lol.

Cheapest price for Pixel 7 (Google 7 according to him) is 460ish perks (not Telstra which was $499) offer just last month - not "a year or two ago"…

        • +2

Was outright. 499 Telstra. Felt like a year ago, just checked the date and it was August for the Pixel 7.

I'm saying it's insane that now 6 months later the Pixel 7A is the same price….

    • +3

Telstra had the pixel 7 for $499 in Aug-23 and also Jan-24. I'd suggest Ruddaga mixed up the dates or got it on contract.

Both the Pixel 7 and 7a offer great value at this price point.

      • +1

Maybe it feels like a while back but yeah it was whenever they had the deal. Purchased outright, grabbed it for my mum.

    • +1

      JB's had Pixel 7 (not the 7a) for $499 in January https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/825258

    • I thought the pixel 7 is classed a tier above pixel 7A. But the 7A is newer. I didn't quite understand your comment

      • +1

My comment is the higher grade 7 was on sale for this price over half a year ago.. so to me it's crazy that the lower grade phone is now "on sale" at the same price.

        • Got it. Thanks. I was thinking the same.

Key differences are higher refresh rate, higher peak brightness and more RAM if you're coming from a 6a. In other words, not a huge upgrade.

    https://nanoreview.net/en/phone-compare/google-pixel-7a-vs-g…

    • +1

      Plus wireless charging.

    • Not sure what you're on about. The 7a is regarded by many as a huge upgrade over the 6a. e.g.
"This year, the Pixel 7a increases the price by $50 but addresses almost all the shortcomings of last year's model. It's got a 90Hz display, wireless charging support, a better fingerprint sensor, a faster processor with more features, and the biggest camera hardware upgrade ever for a Pixel A-series phone."

      GSMArena has a similar comment
      https://www.gsmarena.com/google_pixel_7a-review-2573.php

      • Maybe look at the link I pasted. There's barely anything between them. It's also widely known that Pixels only have incremental upgrades every year. If that's regarded as a huge update to you, then you must be very easily pleased.

        • +1

Thats a pretty big upgrade imho and if you read actual reviews you'll see that many say that the upgrades rendered the Pixel 7 somewhat redundant.
I think your expecting far too much for one generation. Hell, half the time Apple releases a new phone it is only a processor upgrade and a new colour.
Xiaomi's midranger upgrades are just as bad.

        • +1

Wireless charging would be the biggest thing that would get me to upgrade from my 6a. Refresh rate doesn't matter to me as I have previously had a 120hz phone and have a 120hz laptop and ran/run both at 60hz as I just don't personally notice the difference.

        • It's "widely known" that ALL phones - not just Pixels - are and incremental upgrade each year only these days. They're pretty mature products by now, you know, this is hardly news.

  • Do people think that there's plenty of 7a stock left or 7 for that matter? I'm guessing that because the 8a is coming out in a few months, we'll see increasingly better deals.

I'm someone who kicked himself for umming and ahhhing and missed out on the 460ish Perks deal on Pixel 7 in January.

    Still hopeful….

    • +2

I am quite confident it will drop lower than this.

      • +1

Hopefully without too much delay as the promised version update deadlines are fast approaching for 7/7a. Only the new Pixel 8/8 Pros are getting a whopping 7 years of updates.

After 6 months as my personal phone, I've really grown to love it. The size feels just right, the camera is excellent, the screen's good, performance has been snappy and the plastic back has survived a fair bit of abuse. Negatives are that it gets very warm when using Android Auto while charging, battery life will get you through a day but not much more, wired and wireless charging is slower than I would like, the fingerprint sensor is hit-and-miss and you really need a Google One subscription to make the most of its camera and non-expandable storage.
    I reckon it's a great buy at $499.

  • I'm close to pulling the trigger on this but the 128GB storage and lack of microSD slot concerns me. I'm using about 100GB of storage on my current phone with only a few apps and photos getting backed up to the cloud. The only app that uses a lot of storage is Spotify with about 10GB.

All of my previous phones have had microSD slots, making storage a non issue.

    How do people manage?

    • I would just transfer the large videos and such to my laptop or pc

  • No longer showing as available

  • Still available - I just checked out with one in my cart.

  • Anyone actually had their order shipped yet?

    • i ordered Thursday. no shipping info yet. how long does it normally takes with these guys? My first order with them.

      • Also ordered Thursday and no further info/emails. Might ring soon…

…and just as I type this, I get an email saying it's out for delivery today!

        • i just got an email saying delivery today too

  • Anyone ordered this with westpac rewards?

    • yeah doesnt show up through westpac rewards… only iphones weirdly

  • Pixel 8 128GB is also very cheap at $899. The 256GB is pretty much RRP though $1227.
I have some work benefits that gave me an account.

  • -1

This or the Pixel 8 at $899?

This will just be a secondary phone, planning to root it. S24 Ultra will be the main driver, I'm selling off the 8 Pro as I find it always overheating. Glad to have the Pixel as secondary phone, not primary. Can definitely afford both, but was just thinking of the features I could be missing. If the Pixel 7 were still available at $499, I would have taken it.

  • Thanks op. My A73 fell off our 2nd storey balcony so its internals are gradually failing. This will be a temp replacement!

  • It's a shame about the heat and slow charging on all pixels as well as small batteries
I have had Chinese phones for years and can get a full charge in 30 mins
Plus how expensive 3.5mm USBC adapter's still are
Still looking for the best solution for phones with decent software support/updates
