Has anyone used the service and can tell me how good/worth it is?

    Cheers

Used this app many years ago to start learning Japanese from scratch. It was the best app I could find at the time, was miles ahead and got far more out of it than Duolingo and more well rounded with good explanations on grammar and sentence structure. Various types of exercises to help with vocab, grammar, constructing sentences, and kanji.

Felt like it really helped kick start my self-learning at the time. Haven't used it for many years now though, and back then, all the lessons (that were available at the time) were free. Was it good? I definitely thought so. Is it worth it at that price? Depends on the individual I think. I'm particularly stingy.

      • Thanks for information, appreciate it

  • I was progressing well in Japanese with Duolingo but then the levels started to involve how to read. Without that I couldn't move further up so I gave up. I just wanted to learn conversational Japanese just as a past time. Does anyone know lingodeer does the same ? Or is it possible to learn Japanese without learning to read ?

This will teach you kanji better than Duolingo. Check out the app screenshots, otherwise check out BunPro.
At a minimum you need to learn the Kana.

  • Is this marked expired correctly? Link that goes through to the website says it expires Tuesday 3pm-ish Sydney/Melbourne time

Thinking of getting this because Duolingo is good but they only have subscriptions and no once off purchase. Also the dodgy game app ads are infuriating.. otherwise Duolingo seems pretty good if it’s not your only source material

    Deal still on.

Can't seem to find recent reviews of this app. Some of the existing reviews seem to be sponsored.

I’ve only started using it, can’t comment much but it looks at least as good as Duolingo. Not having annoying ads is definitely a huge plus but that will depend on how much ads annoy you.

        Dealis still on lol.

        Im still thinking about it.

Duolingo seems more one dimensional. Ie progress through skill tree and then use the leagues to practice.

Lingodeer seems like it has more variety wth stories and stuff…

How are you finding it so far?

Insta buy if Cantonese was brought on there!

        • After using it for a couple weeks I think it's at least as good as duolingo. Love not having ads. The voice practice parts are better in lingo deer as duo doesn't do as much speaking. Writing Kanji is better in Duolingo.

Currently I'm trying to do one duolingo lesson a day to avoid ads (multiple lessons you get crappy online purchases & gaming ads) and using Lingo Deer to get the rest of my 15-30 mins a day practice in.

Is it worth it? If you have been using duolingo for a while and are sick of ads and have a habit built up to keep practicing and can afford it, yes. You still have to put the time in practicing yourself. Also I know that I'll have to supplement my learning with other resources if I want to have reach a proper conversational level.

I've heard there are good app's for Cantonese but when I tried years ago I couldn't find any. One podcast that I did like was from Hong Kong public radio RTHK - Naken Cantonese podcast which you can find online, the teacher learned in their 30's which is nice to see as it's a bit tougher to find the time when you're older to pick up new languages
