  • Looks like the discount increases to more than 15 based on plan

Thanks - I only have the slow speed available to me so didn't even realise. I've edited.

Currently with swoop and while they seem to genuinely want to help there was delays in their provisioning department and understanding of issues to tell NBN co. My issue was their records showed I was connected to nbn but it was a recently built house with no NBN connection. Took 3 calls to swoop over a month for them to stop saying plug my modem in and I'll be right.

Also they have an IP pool allocated from Melbourne. Which means when using services that try to figure you out based on IP, it'll think you in Melbourne. (So google browser on PC, when auto picking closest servers in games and other services like VPN)

Anyone got recommendations for which provider likely to actually deliver on a higher upload (100/40) HFC plan?

      • +1

        Thanks jv

        • They are supposably one of the better ones, just not the cheapest…

          • @jv: Wat abt Leaptel ?

            • -1

              @urahara: Do Leaptel offer 100/40 ?

              • @jv: Yeah, I dont think they do but their 1000/50 is the same price as above but for an year

                • @urahara: On HFC ?

                  • +1

                    @jv: Leaptel do a 100/40 plan.
You need to pick the 100/20 plan then an option appears to add “upload boost” to 100/40

                  • +1

@jv: Yes, I'm on the 1000/50 on HFC with Leaptel.

    • You can't get a higher upload than 50Mbps on NBN HFC with the 1000/50 tier.
Only on full fibre, FttP or their bus fibre product, can you get higher upload speeds.

      • Apparently 250/100 is coming to HFC by May this year!

        • Much needed :)

      • Thanks, but the 100/40 is referring to what I consider high uploads. Usually on HFC everyone offers 17 up, with only a few companies offering up to 40.

        • +2

          Ah gotcha :)
All the good RSP's offer 100/40 and 1000/50, such as Aussie BB, Superloop, Launtel etc.

  • No deal.. Dodo are going 100/20 for $64 for first 6 months

  • I may have been unlucky, but remember waiting over 30 min to speak to support in office hours and have had billing hassles quite often, will jump ship after my 6m

  • Does Swoop use cgnat?

    • -7

Swoop, an Australian internet service provider, offers a variety of services including Fixed Wireless Internet and nbn® Plans³. While I couldn't find explicit information about Swoop's use of Carrier-Grade Network Address Translation (CGNAT), it's worth noting that CGNAT is employed by some ISPs to conserve IPv4 addresses and manage network traffic¹.

For more accurate details, I recommend reaching out directly to Swoop or checking their official documentation. If you have specific requirements related to gaming, remote access, or other use cases, inquire about their IP addressing options and whether they offer static IPv4 or IPv6⁴. Keep in mind that the situation may evolve, so it's best to verify with the provider directly. 🌐🔍

      Not currently, no.

I've recently had speed issues with swoop, looks like they might have started throttling torrents. Anyone else having similar experience?

    • If that was true it would be the first in Australia for a fixed line service.

      • -1

Telstra’s was throttling way back in the day (around 2013), Optus was toying with it.

        • On fixed line? Proof?

          • -1

@samfisher5986: For memory it was ADSL and it started in Victoria. Hang on, let me do your searching for you.

            Start here
            https://www2.computerworld.com.au/article/452990/iinet_slams…

            • @BatmanAU: Thats an opt in trial, thats not evidence at all.

Did they finish the trial and implement it? I have seen no evidence of that.

              • -1

@samfisher5986: Who knows, don't really care, was just highlighting that Telstra was throttling back in the day, opt in or not, still undertook it.

                • @BatmanAU: Companies have done all sorts of trials and things but if they never implemented it it basically didn't happen.

So the statement saying that no Australian ISP has throttled torrents on a fixed line connection is true.

                  • @samfisher5986: Your statement is false, Telstra throttled P2P, during a trial period on an Australian ADSL network.

So yes, an Australia ISP has throttled torrents whether implemented or not is irrelevant, it still happened. Cant get anymore black and white than that.

Feel free to argue, im out.

                    • +1

@BatmanAU: The trial period was opt in, so no, they didn't.

I've opted in to have my aircon managed by Energex at peak loads, that doesn't mean Energex are turning off air conditioners for users.

You need to learn the definition of opt in and don't try to escape from being from by saying "im out"

I've opted in to have my aircon managed by Energex at peak loads

                        Why?

                        • +1

@jv: They gave me money to do it.

                          Happens about twice a year.

    • No issues here. Is your router up to the task?

      • +1

Asus RT-AX56U running Merlin FW. It is during peak hours, maybe that is my issue..

Referrer and referee receive $15 credit per month for 6 months.

Do you get that on top of the already discounted rate for 6 months?

Been very happy with swoop, 1000\50 is faster then aussiebb, superloop and leaptel.
    It’s a little secret provider

    • what about CGNAT + ipv6?

      • yes ipv6
no CGNAT afaik - my ip is 123.50..
also from the cp on swoop website
"By default, your IP address assignments are "sticky," which means they will rarely change."
i can make my current IP static by paying $5.50 a month

        • Static and sticky IPs are easily replaced with Dynamic DNS from someone like noip though - once you have your wiadro.dynns.com setup then you can just add a CNAME to your wiadro.com.au domain so that, for example, house.wiadro.com.au always points to your house internet IP address.

Using this method, it doesn't matter whether your IP is static, sticky, or dynamic, nor who your ISP even is.

          • @Nom: Or use something like Tailscale. Then it doesn’t matter if you have CGNAT because you never have to expose anything to the internet.
Exposing any services is a risk these days.

            • @internet-stranger: Introducing a 3rd party is also a security risk

            • +1

@internet-stranger: Surely you needed the static IP because you wanted to expose something to the public internet ?
Tailscale makes a private network, you can't use it to host public services - please correct me if I'm wrong, I might have totally misunderstood 😁

Exetel's 50/20 is currently $60.99 atm for the first 6 months. I have no complaint about their support.

  • All the superloop staff went to swoop

  • Can the listed SUMMER15/SUMMER20 code also be used with a referral code? Or are they mutually exclusive?

  • The 100/20 tier (but only that tier) is cheaper with the WO100 code at $68 / M
