Sell us your pre-loved IKEA furniture

We're all feeling the pinch of living at the moment, so there's no better time to get cleverer with resources. Sell us your pre-loved furniture and we’ll make sure it gets a second chance at life. In exchange, you get an IKEA refund card, ready to use on something you need now. Better yet, IKEA Family members earn 50% on the Buy-back value from 26 February – 31 March.*

How IKEA Buy-back works

  1. Determine what you want to resell. Only unmodified, completely assembled second hand IKEA furniture is accepted for buyback. Refer to the lists of eligible/ineligible products below. For ineligible items, consider reuse, donation, selling via online marketplaces or recycling.
  2. Use the buy-back estimator tool. Find what IKEA furniture you’re interested in selling and tell us its condition. You’ll get an estimate of what IKEA will pay to buy back your furniture.
  3. Make sure your furniture is clean and assembled, ready for its new home. Bring it and your estimate to the Exchange and Returns section of your nearest IKEA store.
  4. Pat yourself on the back. You’re helping us prolong product life, promote second hand furniture and waste less. Thanks for contributing to making IKEA more circular and to becoming people and planet positive!
  5. Your IKEA Refund card can be used in any Australian IKEA store, or on IKEA.com.au. Your refund card is valid for 3 years from the date of issue.

  • better value than selling on FB marketplace?

    • +5

      Is this still available?

    • +3

Between the no-shows, constant "is this available" messages, and crazy lowball offers on marketplace; this seems less stressful

Better gross value? Possibly. But you need to pay for your own transportation to the ikea, and ikea can reject your item for any number of reasons which means its your own cost to transport it back. Plus its not cash, gift card only.

I picked up FB ikea furniture for $150
Took it to Ikea and they bought it back for $680

      • Must have been a pretty bulky item if RRP was > $680

"Bring it" - immediately rules out 80% of my Ikea fleet. Won't fit in the car = game over. Too hard basket to try and organise (let alone organise and pay for) transport back to store. Oh well!

Disassemble, transport in car, reassemble in the car park outside IKEA? 🙂

      • I'm already lazy so I'll file that one in WAY Too Hard Basket! 😇

  • Do I must hold receipt for this? I bought TV stand long ago when I didn't know about free IKEA membership. So my IKEA membership don't have the record of purchase on the TV stand.

No, you do not need to present the original proof of purchase of the item in order to access the buy back service.

All the IKEA items I have sold back through this service have been items I bought second-hand (and did not have the original proof of purchase on hand).

      • Did you ever receive a buy-back amount near 50% of the brand new price?

        • I’ll be honest, it is something I do not really track, mostly because none of the items I have sold back were items I bought brand new myself.

As a guide, somebody chucked out x4 Chairs on the street ($49 each) and I took them to Ikea last month and only got $20 per (as new). Today with the extra 50% added an extra $40 so total would be $120 (which is approx 60% of original persons buy price).

      • Thank you :D

Anyone used this service at Ikea Springvale recently? Has it improved since last time or still a waste of time due to the overzealous staff?

Am I reading this right, you get funds deposited onto an IKEA card, that you can only use to buy more IKEA goods?
No thanks, would rather take cash.

    • Yep its ikea gift card only

  • Do they take old out of range stock?

    • Probably not (based on my own experience). Best check via the link and search for your item. It will only show results for items accepted as buy back.
