[Refurbished] Reolink RLC-810A/RLC-820A 8MP PoE Camera $62.39, RLC-510A 5MP Camera White/Black $47.19 Delivered @ Reolink eBay

Original Coupon Deal

Lots of different "Renewed" or "Refurbished" options for cameras on the official Reolink eBay page. Minor extra discounts available if you're buying 2 or 4 of the RLC-510A (white), the RLC-511, the RLC-810A, or RLC-820A. Main link to the 820A listing.

I got myself two more of the 820A refurbs. Seems very cheap for more 4K PoE cameras. Have bought an RLC-510A refurb before - it arrived in a plain brown box (and I think the firmware was an older copy when I was going around updating them all?) but otherwise perfect condition, so I'm happy with the savings.

    mmm 4mm fixed, no thanks
if you want proper coverage you need 2.8mm

    • I'm interested in any options you know that go for under $100 or so? Otherwise probably easier for me to just get a couple more with the longer lenses.

      • +1

Just ignore it. There are advantages and disadvantages to different lenses.

These cameras are excellent value, and work very well. I have installed quite a number of them, and they do a fine job, outperforming most cameras twice the price.

I have bought a few refurb Reolink cameras and they are as good as new. I highly recommend 820A.

  • Thanks op. Got the 820A. Now just look for a POE switch.

    • +1

Reolink eBay has an 8 port PoE + 2 port uplink switch for $88. Not sure how good it is but is a pretty good price I think.

Thanks, grabbed one. Not a bad price. Saw office works had a 10 port 8 port Poe tp link for $99.

Edit: cancelled as was only 100mbit ports. Got the gb one from office works on clearance. $99.

    • +1

The one you linked is the 520A, very different. However, the 820A new https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/393093200864 is $106.55 with these two codes applied:

      Discount SLECFS10
      Applied: AU $14.80

      Voucher/coupon CBTFEB24
      Applied: AU $26.64

  • diffrence between 820a and 810a?

Bullet style vs. dome style physical shape. As far as I know they are identical internally so should perform the same.

Just reolink giving you options I think. I have a 510a and a 520a, and they even use the exact same firmware (both cameras think they are a 520a in the config interface). I assume it's the same for 810a and 820a.

      • Yes, this is correct. Same camera hardware inside, just a different form factor/mount.

  • Damnit, I spent $71 on the 5MP brand new Reolink POE on Sunday.

    • They have an excellent returns policy. Contact them ASAP. If they wont help with return shipping costs (and i would not expect them to) dont accept delivery when it arrives which should give you free return delivery.

      • Its fine, these things happen from time to time. I just wanted to try Reolink because apparently they have a good home assistant integration.

        • I find the Home Assistant integration works really well - I am using car and person detection for automations and it's very reliable.

          • @klaw81: Oooh thats really good to hear. This one is replacing the front door camera which just records when it detects movement. However since its a front door and next to a road, it records a lot. Looking forward to pairing this camera to some automations.

            • @nedski: The camera also has the ability to only detect in certain areas of its view, or objects over a certain size - so even if your camera is pointing at a busy street, you can have vehicle alerts switched on and it will only record / alert when a car enters your property.

Running 8 camera reolink setup. Drama free install, just plug and play. App is great and system is reliable.

  • Is the power cable for if you run it over non-poe Ethernet? Or do you need the power cable connected + poe Ethernet?

    • +3

Each camera has a female barrel jack if you want to power it via 12V DC power supply. You can then connect a non-PoE ethernet cable for data, running back to a switch or router.

If you have a suitable PoE switch or NVR, the camera can be powered via ethernet cable alone.

Picked up 6, finally making the change from Dahua to Reolink. Cheers OP!

    • Out of interest, what is the thinking behind leaving Dahua and switching to Reolink?

  • I need to set up a surveillance cam system for my 2 storey house and this is all so foreign to me. Can someone recommend which ones i should choose and do i need to recharge them each time or get someone to connect them to power? TIA

    • +1

The devices in this deal are PoE cameras - this means they get both power and data connections via ethernet (network) cable. They do not have batteries and are constantly powered. They can be used as self-contained independent cameras, using SD cards for storage, and accessed via web browser or smartphone app, or as part of a complete system.

A surveillance system usually comprises a number of cameras positioned to monitor areas of significance, and an NVR - a central device where camera pictures and videos are stored. The cameras are each connected to the NVR via ethernet cables, which provide a data connection and supply power to the cameras. An example of the above cameras in a 'bundle' (4 x cameras, NVR and ethernet cables) can be found here: https://reolink.com/au/product/rlk8-820d4-a/

Note these cameras can also be powered from a 12V barrel jack (one for each camera), but this is not usually a practical solution for multiple camera setups since you need ethernet cables anyway.

Please note that running ethernet cables to where you want to install cameras can be tricky. Also theoretically this work requires a qualified low-voltage cabling license, although this is commonly ignored by keen DIYers. Bringing in an electrician can add extra cost, so for very basic camera setups, you may be better off with a battery-powered camera system. However, a constantly powered PoE camera system is widely considered to be superior in performance and reliability.

  • if i have a coax system insalled can i attach new cat 6 through the old coax from the camera front and pull it through to the nvr side

    • In general, this should be possible - you can use your old coax cable as a pull-string to bring in new ethernet cabling, but I doubt you can can do a full-length pull through a whole house. You'll probably still have to do it in stages.

You may want to cut off the old coax plug before pulling, since the coax cable plug is a bit bulky and tends to snag on obstacles during the cable pull. And if the ethernet cable is pre-fitted with RJ45 plugs, make sure you protect it with tape.

      • Thankyou for the advice on the Ethernet taping 😄

Hopefully not bolted to posts in roof. I probably tie a cable string from inside outlet coax into roof and pull both outside and inside into roof. Then pull Ethernet up. Tie to string and pull out to outside wall. Pain if you loose the string/ethernet in wall. Know bit more work this way. But believe me. Don't want to loose it in the wall and try to snake it out. Reason with string is that with coax and Ethernet can be bit too large pending how big holes they drilled for it. Off course need to be a strong string. Hard to tell if haven't seen it. Hopefully my explanation is ok lol.

      • Hmm I have two on the same floor as the nvr side and two old camera in the other side of the home on second story. Sorry but confused with your take on it haha. But I think I get the jist

        Thankyou

        • Short explanation. Take off wallplate and expose coax cable from inside the room. Tie a string to coax. TIGHT and with tape. Up in roof and pull it up. When string is up tie Ethernet cable to string in room and pull up. Thought it was outside camera. Do same on other end. And then pull Ethernet to wall plate on other room.

Can do it in one run but have to make sure coax is not stuck somewhere and is pretty stiff. Also very tight with Ethernet. But with risk of pulling Ethernet too much and break it. Fk turned out longer haha

          • @Mikael: My apologies they are outside I just meant where they are situated. But Yeha makes sense thankyou

          • @Mikael: I have the nvr outlet at the back of the home on the first floor with 2 cameras very close mounted on the outside walls. I have two camera mounted on the second floor outside underneath the roof. Not sure if those two coax runs in the roof or on the sidings of the walls towards the back of the home. I’ll have to check but nothing/room is on top of the nvr room

            • @attilex: Cannot really help more. Hard without seeing. You just have to unplug one and see where cable runs or up in manhole and see them. 99% sure up there. Good luck :) don't fall through the roof. Almost done it few times lol.

  • If I am going the Frigate + home assistant route, which are the cameras best for this setup? I heard the internal AI detection can mess things up?

    • +1

Frigate is compatible with lots of different cameras. Just do some googling of model numbers if you're worried about if you can setup a specific model, though I think all the ones in this deal should be fine. There's some reolink specific advice on setup in the frigate documentation.

There's AI detection stuff on the 510a/520a that I have but I just ignore those features and use the streams direct from the cameras in frigate, haven't noticed AI stuff causing issues.

  • +2

Just received my two 820A's with appropriate seals, firmware up to date, and all accessories.
Plugged in the url (:554/h264Preview_01_main) into Frigate and I'm very happy so far.

    • Also got mine today. Easy setup and well packed and looks like in great condition.
