          • @bargaino: I just bought this. Now I'm wondering if it comes with the antenna or the IPEX cable. If not, where can I get them?

            • +1

@glk2000: I just get 'em from the junk crate. A 20yo laptop or router maybe :)

  • Code can't be added to your order?

  • Thanks, ordered one for the folks!

Please note that these machines with T processors are slow. I have Lenovo M700 with Intel i3****T processor. It was very slow to point of unusable. Adding another RAM to total 16 GB made it better but 10+ Chrome or Edge tabs does not allow to open other applications. The processor seems to running 90% of its capacity.

    • +1

Something is wrong there. M700 should be fine for web, given enough RAM, typically 8GB (Chrome bloat!).

"slow to point of unusable" suggests a memory or I/O problem.

    • Look at the specs of the T vs non-T on this machine. The only difference I could find was a marginally different base and boost clock speed. Everything else is the same- cores/threads, L1-3 cache sizes.

      There's bugger all difference.

      • Sounds like same die, different bin. i.e. Ts passed the test to run on lower voltage?

    Out of stock?

Yeap. Was considering one but OOS saved me $$ is what I am telling myself :-)

  • Should I expect 1x8gb or 2x4gb for RAM it ships with?

    • +1

I reached out to the seller via eBay, said they can't confirm

      • damn, thanks anyway.

  • Looking to get one of these or similar for a family member. Web browsing, email, yourtube. What is a good alternative? Missed out :(

    • Maybe keep checking the page for cancellations but also just wait 1-2 weeks for another similar deal to come along, there's a lot of these small machines out there imo

    • +1

For regular desktop use, especially if you want to keep it for at least 2 years, aim to get one with 8th Gen Intel i5 or newer.
Have a look at past Dell and Lenovo deals.

  • cheap cheap

I think these 6th gen CPUs would struggle running plex

    • Plex in general should be fine, maybe you're thinking about 4K transcoding?

    • Plex is fine. I run it on a similar Lenovo with zero issues.

I don't transcode but there's plenty of evidence that this CPU is capable of some level of transcoding.

      • Can do basic ones. Been running it for direct play Blueray Remux, works like a charm

  • 2 available right now.

  • Are these refurbed ex British Post Office Horizon computers? If so don't use them for any Math.

    • +1

lol this is going to go over the heads of 99% here

you will find this company also defrauded the UK NHS and the GPO and the UK sued… and lost…

BUT… their actual hardware is very very solid

  • Just had mine delivered. Needs a password to get into the BIOS, so it's junk as far as I am concerned

    • Why junk. Can't you reset BIOS on them?

      • I guess. But I'm likely to also nuke it knowing my skill

      • It's a pretty laughable 'refurb' process if the seller hasn't even bothered to boot into BIOS once.

@fybre you can pull the CMOS battery (the coin cell) out of the motherboard, with the machine unplugged. Leave it for a while, it should do a total reset. It's very easy.

        • I read on Forum that removing the battery doesnt work nor is there a reset button. Worth a try though.
Once battery is removed and power unplugged, hold the power button in for 10secs, this should drain residual power from motherboard.

Might be a case of downloading Bios and reflashing. No idea as don’t own one to test.

          • @Borg: I'm kinda nervous to flash a bios, I feel I'm going to screw it up,

        • I just tried taking the battery out and left it for about 10 minutes, then put it back in and restarted. But I'm still getting the Enter Password screen :(

  • I have gotten into the bios without needing a password. I used the f2 key. It must be just your unit which is unfortunate

Also this unit comes with 1x8G samsung 2400 ddr4 modules installed. I've upgraded it with another 8G stick from the same seller now I've got 16G in the system. I've also updated the OS to tiny11 no problems without having to put in another license key. I have no activation watermark afterwards so it's a legit installed version.

I can also confirm this can output 4k60hz through the DP. This system is also whisper quiet. I'm not even sure the fan is spinning when I'm just web browsing. Super buy all in all, I've happy with mine.

    • yeah, lucky me! Everytime I try the F2 key I get the BIOS password screen. I really wanted to get ubuntu on this for a docker system

  • +3

If anyone else has a BIOS password set on this, set the jumper as in this page:
    https://support.ts.fujitsu.com/wbt/Deskbound_Devices/wbt-esp…
you should be able to then get into the BIOS. Put the jumper back after.
I then had to screw around with resetting the HDD security password, disabling secure boot before the system would recognise the HDD.
Overall a real pain in the a$$

    • +3

No, you just learned something new i.e. mucking about isn't as scary as it might seem plus you now know more about whats inside the PC and how the Bios works. It's Fun :-)

      • Might be fun, might be a minor PITA.

But a 'refurbed' machine 100% should not come with a password protected BIOS.

I've checked hundreds of machines when I did volunteer work for an NGO. Even working for zero compensation, I took more care with machines than this. It's literally a 30 second or less check. And why on earth would there be password protection on the hard drive- that's not what a refurbed machine should have enabled.

I guess it's hard to really complain when the machine costs less than a hundred dollars, but still, I am totally unimpressed.

        • me too, I really didn't want to pull it apart and play around with jumper settings and BIOS settings. It was freaking me out a bit thinking I might have to flash the BIOS and getting worried I'd totally brick the thing

  • Got the system, additional RAM and PCIE SSD all delivered on or around the same day.

Didn't get one that was BIOS locked so happy about that.

    Now its time to tinker.

  • Beautiful machine! One of the last computers built in Europe, sadly.

I installed Proxmox, getting only 6W idle power draw, and completely silent with fan at 0 rpm.

One caution: some idiot at ACT though the best place to put their barcode was over the air vent on the back :-(

    • Is something like this good for just general use, like for web browsing, youtube, word processing, emails? Or is it a bit slow for that?

      • +1

It is perfectly good for that. Should not feel at all slow, unless you leave 150 tabs open in Chrome. Don't ask how I know.

        • Pity I missed out, will be great for older family members web browsing use.
