Energizer Max Plus AA - 12 Pack $11.71 + Delivery ($0 C&C/ in-Store/ OnePass) @ Bunnings

180

I went into my local Bunnings to get some 1.5V Energizer Max Plus AA (Alkaline) batteries and discovered that the 12 pack is on special when paying. They're usually about $19.

I'm using 1.2V eneloop pro AA batteries for digital multimeters while testing battery chargers but the Bluetooth connections are chewing through them.

Energizer Max Plus seems to have a leak guarantee program (Energizer to replace a damaged device etc).

2023 date was found on the cardboard at the back of the blister pack.

so you'd rather chew through single-use AA batteries instead of rechargeable AAs?

I'd prefer not to. But the Bluetooth connection is being a bit unreliable after measuring the voltage and current of a charger for 3 hours. It cuts out toward the end and then I have to restart the test.

2x 1.2V NiMH isn't quite cutting it for these digital multimeters with Bluetooth.

I'll try to modify the multimeter to accept DC input from the wall later. But for now, I want to get through a few dozen tests to complete two battery charger reviews by mid-March.

whatever it means, thumbs up for explanation!

    • There are plenty of devices that won't work well with rechargables due to the lower voltage. Electronics are usually good, but kids toys often won't work well with them.

  • How much better is max plus really?

    • eevblog did a video on them leaking:

There's supposed to be a No Leak Guarantee by Energizer where they might repair or replace a device. I guess that offers some peace-of-mind.

      • But does it last longer?

Interesting about the leak proof guarantee as I've had these leak in a couple things.

Also this is just price matching Woolworths half price at 0.98c per battery (but a bigger pack at Woolies), they're half price pretty regularly so for me this is essentially the regular price and no one should be paying RRP when it's half price so often.

True about alkaline non rechargeable batteries leaking. I've always used rechargeable batteries and never had any leak. Can't say the same for various name brand alkaline batteries.

  • Varta represents far better value for very similar performance.
30 batteries for $11.98 (standard price) vs 12 batteries for $11.71 (Energizer's sale price)
No prizes for brand loyalty here.

  • Is the leak guarantee in Australia? I only see it on what appears to be a US site. Honestly I'm not impressed with these as a premium battery, don't seem to last noticeably longer and have had a couple of leaks. Would be keen to hear about any batteries others actually find that are worth spending extra on compared to cheap ones. Otherwise I'll switch to cheap ones, most go in the kids toys and don't get used often, cheap ones will probably do.

    • I don't know. I've submitted a query to Energizer Australia.

I used to use energizer Max, but now I use the energizer lithium ultimate batteries for my insulin pump (1 x AA). Its on 24/7 at a low current draw. It lasts about 40-50% longer. The pump has an LED screen, Bluetooth, vibration and a speaker so it can chew through a lot. But the consistency is what I pay for.
I used to get about 4 weeks out of an energizer Max, now I get about 6-7 weeks out of a lithium ultimate. And they're recyclable.

I've yet to try Eneloop which is likely my next test. I might write back here on it's performance after a month or two.
