cheeky extra $10 off if you sign up to their newsletter too - tested and you can stack it with the deal.

    • Tried my $10 sign up code and it didn't work. How did you get yours to work?

      • nothing special - I put the code in at checkout and it accepted it - just tried it again and it brought it down to $172.75 for a beige 20m reel

        • Strange, doesn't work for me. Chat with an agent and she said the code can't be applied to already discounted items

        • It put it in for me when it was in the cart but then it removed it before I checked out.

    • not working for me anymore either… shoulda bought when it was working…

aussie hoses are not aussie made?
        .

        • Nor is Hoselik. Hoselink's wesite states some products may be made in Taiwan and China. All the connectors and accessories I have got lately were made in China.

          • +1

@Arjav: am aware, but c'mon calling yourselves Aussie Hoses and selling non aussie made is unaustralian
            .

      • +3

Yeah, but the biggest reason for me going via Aussie hoses vs hoselink, is that they don't use proprietary connectors.
The extra 5m was a nice bonus. They also advertise their hoses are 10 star kink resistance (Highest rated in Australia) and they are all UV protected .

        • is that they don't use proprietary connectors

Normally I'd agree when it's seemingly useless (eg. proprietary power cable connectors), but the Hoselink ones are definitely an upgrade over regular connectors. Less prone to leaking and can have a flow control built-in. You can adapt them to regular hose connectors as well to use non-hoselink stuff.

        • 10 star kink resistance (Highest rated in Australia) and they are all UV protected

Ha, you state that like the Australia Hose Kink Regulator has assessed these houses. Probably just marketing BS.

The hoselink connectors are a significantly superior design compared to the common household house connector. They’re easily adaptable and provide fittings to replace connections on almost all common hose attachments. Hardly an imposition compared to other industry proprietisations.

          • +1

@ponchoau: Our aunty has hoselink. I've had so many problems with getting things like sprinklers as the connectors are just the standard.. I'm not unique in feeling this. Look at some.of the posts below. Alternatively you have to spend more to buy overpriced adapters to connect other accessories. I'd rather just dodge that process and get a decent hose using standard adaptors.

            • @maverickjohn: Well completely different experience here. I’ve got a half dozen different branch sprinklers and accessories and I simply unscrew the common host connector fitting and screw in a hoselink accessory fitting. Easy.

              https://www.hoselink.com.au/products/accessory-swivel-connec…

And if that doesn’t work you just use an adapter.
Now I have completely zero leaks from taps or hoses connected together because hoselink connectors are excellent.

Has anyone have any thoughts on durability? All the reels and sprayers I've purchased are rubbish, they don't last more than 6 months.

    • +1

Has anyone have any thoughts on durability?

They're all rubbish, they don't last more than 6 months.

    • They are great! Expensive tho

    • I bought mine in 2016 and it's still going strong.

      • -1

        Are you using it outdoors?

        • I'm still using my $39 Repco one since 2014.
10 years on, I've just needed to replace the end connection a couple of times (now using brass connector and no issues since).

          Disclaimer:
Hose reel is mounted on the patio support post, so is undercover / out of sunlight at all times.
I always fully retract the hose, so hose is only exposed to UV while in use.

        • Sure am. Have you owned one?

    • Had one for about 3 years, after 1.5 years the spray trigger jammed, now the hose connection inside the reel housing broke off with no way to fix. My experience is that they are not very durable

      • They are very good with backing up their product. Shoot them a message!

I had mine in the shed for 15 months before installing it and it had a drip from the hose reel. They sent me a new one.

        • Ill give it a go but i doubt they will do anything as it is past the warranty period and I don't have a receipt since it was a gift from in-laws

      • +1

The spray trigger needs lubricating every 12 months, otherwise it jams. They have different designs now but the original plunger-style one that I bought 10 years ago still works as long as you lubricate it. I still use the little lube tube that came with it, but you could use standard tap spindle lube.

        • IMO the spray trigger was a dud design - I certainly can't be bothered regularly lubing a sprayer, it went into the bin years ago.

But my experience is that the other hoselink gear is great. My reel is over 10 years old and always exposed, it looks a bit faded and weathered but still works great. I gave it a gerni just the other month and it made it look fresher.

Mother in law bought one ~2010 and its in great condition, operation is smooth; been indestructible. We bought two in 2022 and one of them has had 3 parts replaced under warranty, hose constantly gets stuck/kinked, and we're still not happy with it.
Somewhere quality went down and prices still went up.

    • Every connection leaks for me on my retractable hose. Didn't last 12 months.

    • I have had mine for more than 5 years and it’s still in a good condition. Having said that, I put a cover on my reel.

    • Most durable items I've found in this space are the maddeford enginering hose reels with the BRASS connector (bunnings etc seem to only stock plastic), and the Ryset trigger gun which is an all metal design apart from the spray selector face.

the hose reels are very basic looking, but don't have any plastic parts that degrade in the sun.

      • When you say brass connections, are you referring to the bit that goes on the end of the hose, before it connects to the nozzle/gun?

        • I'm referring to the male protrusion that allows you to connect a hose. The brass one has the hose slide on directly, maybe needing a clamp while the plastic one is a normal hose connection that a hose end connector will clip on to.

      • What's the Ryset trigget gun model that is an all-metal design? My Google foo seems to be failing me - all I can find are a mixture of metal/plastic.

Edit: Is this the model you are referring to?

        • +1

          https://zorroaustralia.com.au/products/ryset-high-pressure-a…

All metal apart from the selector face and some grip bits to be fair.

          • +1

@dunc0: I also recall that the bottom connector to the hose is plastic, but I found out this is a good design if your hose might freeze. The ice pushed the plastic end out which can be replaced cheaply at bunnnigs. I think it likely would have been damaged if that part was also metal. (you can also buy brass connections at bunnings to replace if you prefer)

            • @dunc0: If it's replaceable then I think plastic is perfectly fine. As you pointed out - it acts as a sacrificial layer/part

          • @dunc0: Thanks. Will be ordering a couple.

Have two reels (both with the covers), approx 6 and 4 years old.

Reel = good. Just make sure to keep the hose clean as it winds back in to keep debris from inside the reel (just keep my hand around the hose as it rewinds)
      Hose = good.
      Sprayer/Proprietary connectors = not good
      - One sprayer literally fell apart
      - The other needs constant love to not get stuck on and random unjoins at the proprietary connector so water sprays all over you.

Ended up just cutting the hose and putting a normal plastic bunnings cheapies on. Much better and because of the quality of the hose the standard hose connectors don't disconnect like they do with average hoses.

      • +1

The whole point of hoselink was the connector

    • I had another $100+ brand 30m reel struggle to retract with a 30m hose which constantly jammed on the last 10m, so after several years frustration I tossed it out when I spotted a bargain.

I didn't think a $70 30m reel from ALDI would be much better, but I bought one and it's still reeling in perfectly every time over 2 years later. Gets frequent use, yet to jam, so I'm more than happy with it. It has a handle, so it can be simply lifted off the wall hook and taken where needed. Hose is relatively soft so it probably compresses better on the reel, avoiding jams, but it sometimes gets the odd kink once off the reel and dragged about the garden and driveway - a minor failing that even pricey reels could suffer.

If you want to try one, ALDI just happens to have the 30m ones in store at present for about $70, the same price they've sold their 20m reels for in the past.

    • My Hoselink reel is going stong after 3 years in QLD sun. Accessories and connectors, not so great. They replaced it in warranty though, so good service. Shame a bit of money need to be invested in buying these connectors + postage.

    • My two 25m reels just celebrated its 3rd birthday, still working fine. Stays most of the year outdoor on direct sun but I put them inside during tassie winter to prevent water turning into ice and ripping it up. Ocassionally, the alignment system gets confused with stacking the hose and it needs to be fully unrolled and re-rolled back. Except of that, I see no problems at all.

    • Probably the best in my opinion. Mine has lasted 2-3 years and still going strong! I wipe with a paper towel while retracting after every use, so it comes out smooth. If its outside, I suggest getting one of their covers and you'll be good.

  • That website keeps trying to play a video on my phone

$323 for a hose reel and wall mount installation. Worth it?

    • No, DIY

    • Just go through Aussie hoses if you are in delivery area. It's free delivery and installation

    • I mounted mine to a wooden post in 5-10 minutes. Into brick would have been similar. Only difficult thing for me was that my post wasn't perfectly level so I needed to skew the mount so it was.

    • Yea I got the same cost.
Looks like I'll check out Aussie hoses.

I just looked up my old HoseLink purchase, bought in 2016. 25m retractable hose with car wash brush was $198. 30m retractable hose with soft shower wand was $217. Was during a sale. No install.

So prices have stayed pretty steady, certainly not near inflation.

    • +4

They aren't made in Australia anymore so manufacturing costs from China would be a lot less.

Need to buy some and scatter them around Sydney just so I can say I've got hose in different area codes.

Was considering this, but went with Aussie Hoses mainly due to price, they have a promo $169 for 25m hosereel inclusive of installation.

  • How do these compare with Gardena Hose Reels?

    • +1

I was tossing up between the Hoselink and the Gardena, went with the Gardena - cost a little bit more than this on sale, but you get a 5 year warranty vs 2 with HL.

      • -4

Wouldn't compare these as being equal at all. Might have 5 years, but good luck claiming on it when it's broken in 2 years time.

        • Whats the issue? Bunnings always honour the warranty claims. With ease in my experience.

I bought the 20m retractable last night on Woolworths Everyday Marketplace for $183.50 :( Now $182.75 with sale at Hoselink. Two packs of Mi Goreng there!

Don't forget the 92c worth in reward points.

If you bought these in last 3-4 weeks, contact them for refund (equals to this discount.).

just got my refund processed. they are great hose by the way.

  • I got a Hoselink 20m retractable since mid 2022 and still going strong. It's been installed outdoor under direct sunlight used almost everyday ever since. The hose is still in great condition with no kink nor tear despite being used and retracted several times a week.
I also received an old Hoselink from the previous house owner and can confirm they've updated the design a bit. The new one seems to have better hose material, rubber plugs included to prevent wasps from nesting inside screw holes, and a thumb-control sprayer instead of trigger style. I can even reused all of the old mounting bracket and other accessories from the previous one.

  • I think the other option is a Delrico if anyone had any experiences (maybe over a hoselink). I need a new one after a previous brand broke at about the 4 year mark (the auto retract stopped working).

I have used a friend's Aussie hoses and seems ok but not really that link resistant maybe and not sure on longevity.

FYI there's a defect/bug on the website which is forcing 'Express Post' and no free shipping option - I called hoselink on their 1300 number and got told their tech team know about it and are actively trying to fix.

It is Friday 4pm and we are in 'straya so I doubt the odds of it actually getting fixed today, but the lady from hoselink did say the 15% sale was running for a while in March.

  • Can anyone recommend a manual hose reel or hose & reel set (15 or 20m)?
Renting so a screw in retractable hose reel is not suitable.
    Thanks

  • +1

ALDI just happen to have their 30m reel going for about $70 at present, the same price they've sold their 20m reels.

I bought the 30m reel over 2 years ago after giving up on a much more expensive 30m reel from Bunnings that constantly jammed. The ALDI reel gets frequent use (daily in summer), has yet to fail in any way, plus it has a handle and can be lifted off the wall mount to store or use elsewhere. Although Hoselink reels are probably excellent quality, they're still very expensive, so for the price and it's perfect retraction, I think ALDI's is possibly (from a sample of one) the best bang per buck 30m hose reel bargain around.

    • Thanks. Will check the store today.

      • ALDI have been quick to refund when I've taken a couple of thigs back that didn't work as they should, so not even really risking $70 :)

  • The covers for these houses are worth it if in the sun, especially in sunny qld. Keeps them looking new. I got one on clearance for $10 a while back and it still looks new underneath.

  • +2

Please dont beat me up. I am just trying to share my experience about hoselink. Lol

Durability - Agree with all other comment above. Good.
Connectors - only slightly better quality, but warrant service is good, so you are covered. The Bad, thing about it is - Propritery type, meaning you will need a decent amont of investment to ensure all other non hoselink product can connect to this hose.

So I am not saying buy it or dont buy it, my recommendayion is choose wisely. Its decent investment, and you would only realise this limitation afyer few months of use.
BAD - Flow rate. There are 2 major restrictions. 1 the thicker hose, meaning less inner diameter for water to flow. 2. If you obserce the connectors, thats where biggest issue is, they do not allow full flow of water. They further restrict the passage of water. So if one is planning to hose lawn manully it will take lot longer. If you want to use hose on window cleaner for 2nd floor windows, these hose doesnt allow enough water, you will need regular hose to do it.

  • Keen for this but I dont have a wall to mount to near the outdoor tap. Can see that you can get a vertical stand but you need concrete the bottom. Has anyone done this?

  • Got my first and (recently) got my second 30m for free thanks to Flybuys. The first one has lasted 2-3 years and still doing well. Certainly a quality product.

  • Bought 3 of 30m ones for our building and installed them myself. They are super easy to install with the template and surprisingly good rubber plugs and screws. I usually use my own when installing things but theirs are top notch.
