      • nope, just blind… bought GCX+ 4.9% off cards that day and was keeping an eye on special

You didn’t miss much. Was a struggle to place an order with most cards getting declined

  • Is the maximum purchase value of $2,500 for per transaction or per day?
Want to know for future reference.

    • Usually per promo per email

    • Do you figure it out? My second transactions still failed two days after my first transaction.

  • Missed the boat last time but this one..

    • +4

This is a sinking boat don't get on

  • +1

can these cards still be loaded to PayPal?

    • +1

      Yes, did it last week

      • is there a max you can do? and when you say loaded do you mean transfer the funds into PayPal? cause I'm concerned about purchasing and having them hacked as comments say?

        • +1

Didn't load the funds onto PayPal (don't think you could ever do that without incurring a fee anyway). Just loaded the card into the wallet and was able to use it to pay bills.

          • @Trance N Dance: Does it automatically combine cards if your bill is $1000? Would you have to make 4 seperate payments of $250 or can it split the payment automatically? I assume that's beyond what Paypal can do…

            • +1

@drfuzzy: Not automatically, but PayPal does have a split pay option to use multiple cards that are registered to your wallet to pay one invoice.

  • +14

Cool, transfer reliable and safe money to a proven hackable product for no discount… Hard pass

  • just needed to meet min spend for credit card bonus (missed last deal as the new card arrived one day after….)

  • This is great! I keep getting phone calls informing me of large monetary wins and that I just need one of these to activate the transfer! Now I don't even have to pay the fees! Double win!! 🤑🤑

My nigerian prince requested one of these to process the paperwork for the 10 million dollar inheritence he will be sharing with me.

  • Complete trash based on last experience trying to purchase them

  • +2

    Why are they easily hackable?

    • +13

because all these cards have the first 8 digit card number exactly the same (in a 16 digit card number)
and they have same expiry month too (eg. all card sold today are expired on 03/29)
There are some websites that doesnt check CVV code (including Amazon AU and Google Play)

*Just note that physical version of this card is even easier to be hacked given some finds a way to see the card number without opening the package
whole they cannot see the CVV code as it stick at the back, it is still easy enough to spend these balances on websites that doesnt verify CVV

  • Thanks for sharing, @AkuroPlays. Missed the last deal, unfortunately :( Had an urgent bill to pay, so bought this using CC.

    • +2

So why didn't you pay your bills directly with your own credit card?

      • maybe using credit cards attracts a higher fee?

      • 3x Amex MR on Plat Edge……maybe

      • Wondering same thing

Ozbargain impulse buy with no benefit perhaps?

  • +1

10% off or no deal, esp. with their stuff up and ending the sale early

  • +1

In the case that these do get hacked, what should we do? Just gotta do chargebacks?

    • Call up and try get them reissued

      It's a long process

  • +10

Not a bad deal for the CC churners and AMEX users. I posted it in August and copped multiple downvotes which I thought was a little unfair https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/796499

    • +3

Oh wow. What a different response.

I really think it's a case of if you know, you know

And the other factor at play I think is one person negged yours pretty early on so it swung the momentum and people latched on

Whereas here it went the other way. I think there are certainly some "sheep" voters around

This is most certainly a decent deal. You just gotta know how to use it..

    • Shows that people on this place is whacked with their votes

  • +2

I can't recommend avoiding these enough

I'm currently battling using 2 that were given to myself and my partner, separately, by different workplaces.

Oh my god, the issues that are there. The website won't load, phone line won't connect, websites won't accept.. It's endless!

This isn't chump change, either - $500 worth.

    • +2

      council bill
      woolworths
      synergy
      ato
      shopback
      amazon

      just to name a few.

I bought 10 of the $250 one and i used it up in 1 day

  • +3

as someone who bought those a few times, more than 10 each time, i can tell you they are good only for paying bills. using them on online merchants is a hit or miss since there isn't one time passcode verification. some payment gateways don't accept those.

  • Can it be add to Google wallet?

    • No

      • May I know why not?

        • From the description.

Do keep in mind that these cards only support card-not-present transactions (e.g. online transactions). These cards do not support card-present transactions (e.g. in-person transactions where you tap).

Hard pass, after last time this is a no

    • What happened last time?

  • Terms and Conditions apply. No purchase Fee on $100 and $250 digital Coles Mastercard’s. Excludes $50 Coles Mastercard. Offer available from 1/3/24 9am. Offer ends 24/2/24 5pm.

woww, turning your interest earning cash into limited use, frequently hacked mastercard is considered a deal?

    • +2

I thought people turn cash into high yield investment vehicles here

      • Like a tesla

        • +2

I thought it was that Merc guy working at Westpac

  • +3

No thanks. 10% off + fix the trash website blocking credit cards or GTFO

    • I didn't realise that the blocking is a common occurrence. I was wondering why the card stopped working and called them up. They asked me a few questions about when I last used the card and how much money I suspect is still on it and unblocked it, but would not explain why it was blocked. Pretty annoying when you suddenly can't use it at the shops.

    • The website is trash indeed and no common reason why the transactions aren't getting through either

  • can i pay credit card bills with this? visa, mastercard, amex?

    • Yes, it works for me with AMEX

      • ok, great. thank you

      • as in making amex credit card payment? how do you make the payment using this coles gift card?

        • +1

Besides from a balance transfer I haven't seen any credit cards that you can use other credit cards / visa / master prepaid to pay cc bill

  • +11

Don’t support this poor offer unless you’re desperate to reach a credit card minimum spend etc. Without the 10% off, it’s not worth the time & hassle and risk of your card being hacked. A lack of support for this offer will encourage them to bring back the 10% offer.

    • even with desperation there are tons of other/safer gift cards…

  • Thanks OP bought these to pay my rego.

    • How to use to pay rego?

Can you nominate an amount in your state as in Qld the payments are fixed denominations

      • So I ended up realizing you can’t get around the system and instead I just used it to pay off my HECS debt. Needed the min spend for velocity FFP

  • Has anyone used this card to pay for real-debrid? Don’t have bitcoin and was hoping to use a prepaid visa or mastercard to pay for the service .

    • I haven't but since Real Debrid charges EUR there would be a 3% conversion fee I believe FYI.

  • +4

I don't understand why would someone want to spend their cash to buy a gift card that is redeemable as same amount but of less value and provides no advantage/benefit then your own cash/cc.

    • +7

You can buy them with Amex (for points) and then then use them at places that don't accept Amex. You can use them to reach a minimum spend on a credit card offer.

I wouldn't bother with this deal, but with the 10% off it was perfect.

      • +1

Yea but earlier in the week most people with Amex couldn’t buy this anyway, transaction always fail.

        • +3

that was mainly because banks like amex and NAB reject the transactions given there are too many transactions to the same merchant in short period of time
amex transactions were fine when the deal were just posted that morning at 9am, and become working again around 12pm to 3pm

          • +2

@littlesoldier: Yea another data point here for someone who paid with Amex without issue at about 1pm

        • +1

          I purchased $5k with AMEX.

      • PayPal linked amex works.

I imagine 90% usecase. Not sure what non major stores doesn't accept one, other and both these days.

    • +1

for me, I buy them to pay bills in DEFT, as debit mastercard only has a card fee of 0.4% while credit card charged 1.5% fee

      • Wouldn't you incur zero fee if you pay via BPAY?

        • +1

but you dont earn credit card points via BPAY
most credit cards exclude BPAY as eligible purchase for points

        • +5

Yes, but maybe someone doesn't have the money right now and wants credit for 30 days or so. The more likely scenario is that 0.4% in exchange for getting airline or rewards points is a win for the latter. $1000 charge is $4 fee. $1000 could mean 1000+ velocity points. As someone mentioned above, some need the charges to meet minimum spend for a credit card offer. So not only would you get reward points, but you'd also help get the min spend to get the big bonus. The maths works, here's an example.

Here's a scenario: You get the AMEX Platinum Velocity card. Requires $3K spend in 3 months to get 100K Velocity points (plus current 30K bonus from Velocity). You get the card and maybe you don't have much to spend on right now. AMEX isn't taken everywhere, so makes it harder to reach the $3K. You have some bills and maybe owe the ATO money (PAYG or something). So, you go and by 12 of the $250 prepaid Coles cards. That's $3K right there to cover your AMEX min spend. That 3K not only gives you the 130K signup velocity points, but at 1.25 points/$, $3K gives you 3,750 more points. Now, how to use the $3K in gift cards. First, you don't want to hold these gift cards for a long period of time. There've been reports of hacking. You buy only what you can use right away. So you go pay your bills, council rates, and/or ATO and maybe pay 0.4% charge. 0.4% of $3K is only $12, which is nothing compared to what you've just gained (even the 3,750 is easily worth more than that). You can also use these cards, via PayPal, to buy Woolies gift cards (with 4% bonus if you use the free NRMA membership and portal). This is the OzBargain way.

  • So Westpac Platinum says in the PDS that buying "a card of stored value" is a cash advance. Anyone confirm/ deny? Cheers

    • would they be able to identify if I purchase the card from wws or coles? I highly doubt it

      • No, they can't. The only thing shared with your bank is the merchant and their merchant category code. What you purchased exactly is never shared.

        • Have you heard of Slyp?

It is a system where you can have a digital receipt of your purchase from a participating retailer (e.g. Kmart, Chemist Warehouse) sent straight to the NAB app (assuming you paid using an NAB card, of course). This is determined by matching the NAB card number used for your purchase with the NAB card number on your account.

I do not know whether NAB can actually see the data in the digital receipt. The digital receipt may be displayed in the NAB app, but there is a chance that NAB has no visibility over what Slyp is presenting in the NAB app. (I have not read too deeply into Slyp, as you can tell!)

          • +1

@WookieMonster: 1st time hearing of it, only just noticed it in the NAB app. I can see how it can be useful but also a little worrying. It is at least an opt-in service and the FAQ mentions the bank can only see the data if the customer "requests for it".

        • Depends on the card and institutions involved. I know with Qantas and Virgin Australia airfares, the airfare info (passenger, routing, fare class, ticket number and sometimes PNR) are passed onto Amex and appears on my monthly statements.

  • I like how they can just blacklist 1/10 cards without explanation and being a pain to contact.

  • Which Credit cards can you buy these giftcards with, and it counts towards bonus point spends?

Want to grab some for my Westpac $3k spend in 90 days bonus points… but don't think they will count..and might incur a Cash Advance?

    • +1

Most credit cards do not see this as a cash advance, including Westpac from my experience. You're good to go.

      • This has been my experience also.
