Can this be used to pay for bills online? Uni fees specifically?

Last time payed with the physical ones iirc, are these the same?

    • +4

anywhere that takes mastercard, you just need to allow for any processing fee.

    • I believe this has been blocked by ATO. Correct me if I'm wrong?
All other places should be generally fine and takes them ok.

      • +2

can someone please confirm, I used these card last year to pay ATO.

        • +2

I use these exclusively with ATO, last promo still worked. Have not processed any today yet

          • @edman: Why you all need to pay ATO? the goal is to minimise tax not to overpaid it.

            • +2

@RTX9090Ti: Because it’s probably for the HECS-HELP loans we get to get a university degree that is a necessity and also a scam at the same time.

            • @RTX9090Ti: Agree, but I have a number of business so there is BAS, income tax, monthly PAYGW. Then 2 x SMSF that have BAS and income tax.

            • @RTX9090Ti: BAS due today

        • +4

I just completed a few payments so I can confirm on my end they still accept these cards.

          • +1

@hyouden: Cheers. Have $2k due today PAYG and also $500 council fees
This deal came right in time

        • +11

confirmed bought 4X250, and just paid ATO for upcoming 2024 tax.
Only need to enter $249.50 as 50cents is the fee payment. Good luck all.

          • @fishandchips: can you share how to pay ATO?

            • @ozbargainerlife1: go to Payment, go to "Account Detail" click on "Filter", Amount Type drop down menu, select "All" and click on "Filter" again, and you should able to continue from there. Good luck.

          • @fishandchips: Have the payments shown up in your ATO account already? I tried with one card. The card portal indicated the money was deducted from the card but ATO doesn't list such an activity in their records.

Not sure if it is actually a lag with the ATO side or it may bounce back to the card.

            • @shw01: It will generally take 2-3 business days, from experience. I always print the receipt to PDF just in case, but they've always appeared on my account afterwards.

          • @fishandchips: Last time was $249.50, this time $250.00 works fine

          • @fishandchips: Just wondering can we use postbill pay to pay ATO? There is no fee via postbill pay

        • Can confirmed it worked. Used it last night. Bought a bunch as part of the no purchase fee promo.

      • Neg, just paid $5.5K in ATO bills using these cards. Worked instantly and confirmed via gift card page that money was deducted.

        • Just tried with one card and the gift card page showed the money was deducted as well.

But ATO doesn't seem to show the payment in the activity list. Any chance the payment will bounce back to the card afterwards?

          • @shw01: It might take about 5 business days to show up.

            • @fishandchips: Thanks for the info. Just don't want to end up with a whole bunch of cards (if not accepted by ATO) and have no idea where to use them lol

        • Did you use more than 10 cards? I tried my 11th card and it rejected payment - 10 per day seems to be the cap from experience, so interested to see if there's a workaround.

        • How many cards can be put through ATO in one day?

      • They work fine with the ATO. First exchange for iTunes, then they are accepted.

  • Transaction Failed…contact customer service

    • ouch bad luck, my AMEX worked fine. Had heaps of trouble with CBA last time.

      • Ouch. Make me nervous. I am stuck at loading payment.

      • My Amex main card didn't work but my wife's supp card worked…

    • ANZ with a OTP, order processed no issues.

      • how many did you buy? I bought one with ANZ with OTP no issue, tried buying more but now getting transaction failed error.

        • One order per customer, might be the issue.
Although the $2500 max order might come into play.

I did 3 cards on ANZ then another 4 on Amex (forgot about the trusty Edge 3x points earn initially)

          • @Coops1: In different orders? In the previous round I managed to buy 10x $250 in 3 separate orders all to same email

Anyways just called ANZ and they've told me to wait another 10-15mins before trying again, they have tagged the transaction attempt as genuine from their side.

Update: not working even after 15 mins, had to use another credit card (Virgin Money Velocity Flyer)

      • I tried many times using ANZ card. All failed.

      • @Coops1 did you pay using your ANZ credit card by any chance? I wanted to see if transactions on giftcards.com.au are treated as cash advance or a normal transaction.

        • +1

          I don’t need to check, it’s a normal transaction.

          • @Coops1: Alright, thanks a lot. Will buy using my CC next time

    • -1

      My Amex failed

  • +2

Can only be used for online purchases.
    What does this mean… EXACTLY???
Does that mean you can't swipe it or type in its details in store?

    • +3

      Its a digital gift card….

      • Yeah, but I used to be able to scan a gift card's code or punch the gift card's details into POS machines for it to work.
Will it not at all anymore? Or selective of store / machine?

        • You can punch the gc details in terminal if retailer allows

    • CANNOT BE USED in the supermarket self-serve or paying for restaurant or coffee or anything PHYSICAL by swiping the EFTPOS machine.

  • +5

These can be added to Paypal as well and bypass quite a few merchants that block.prepaid card

Eg you can buy discounted woolies GC with these via PayPal which usually blocks prepaid cards.

      • +21

        Lol then don't.

        Name checks out

        • -7

I cant use PayPal, they have banned me

      • +5

Not a helpful comment if this is just about you being banned from Paypal and not applicable to a general user.

        • -1

Depends… If you keep adding these cards to your paypal account to churn through they will get susspicious

          • @Turd: I had my account suspended for it but I spoke to them and they unblocked it.

    • Any suggestion about where to buy such discounted GCs? shopback? Thanks.

      • +1

A rewards portal. Check the OzBargain gift card wiki.

      • Shopback no longer allows this type of digital giftcard for payments.

    • Is this just linking a card or can you add it to your PAYPAL balance

      • +4

        Linking card.

You can add money (balance) only via a bank account

    • thanks for the tip. just used this and worked a treat! :)

  • +13

Cheers, council fees and taxes paid

    $20k worth bought

    • ATO still accepts these cards?

And can you split payments for things council fees (I assume such fees are usually more than $250)?

      Thanks.

      • Yeh, council fees can be split.
        Just paid mine with these

        • can you split rego and ctp pay?

        • Is there any glaringly obvious reason why these cards have limited places of use if it's just a digital mastercard?

      • +1

Just put in 10x into my ATO with no issues

        • thanks for the info. damn just paid my payg the day before yesterday

          • @shw01: Me too… Had an Activity statement payment for 3k that I paid for on Monday… would've been good to use these for, but oh well, prepaid for next quarter haha

    • -2

I don't think this can be used with ATO anymore.

      • Its ok, will also use for Private health insurance churning so i dont have to give them my real credit card and paying other insurances, rego, ctp etc.

It will all be used up in 3 months

        • You cant split ctp with smaller amounts

          • @Turd: Depends on the insurer if system allows split payments. Ive done it before

          • @Turd: Yep, just tried with my rego. They asked for a lump sum. May suitable for parking infringements etc. lol

            • @shw01: Rego has to be over the counter at services NSW

              • @easternculture: Unfortunately I am in ACT and judging by the rego notice, they no longer provide an option to go to the counter other than AU Post.

                • @shw01: In NSW

                  In person
Before you visit a service centre, check to see which payment methods they offer. Not all service centres accept cash, cheque or money order.

    • How? Multiple cards, wife name etc?

      • Multiple emails and cards (10 per order)

        • +2

If you have your own domain you can have unlimited emails

          Thanks google turkey domains!

    • did you use couple of different emails or just the one?

      • Multiple email addresses. I have my own domain

        • council bills, land tax, water are the go to

        • Domain Real Estate no wonder you need 20k+ for council bills

          • @Poor Ass: Going to pay 2 years in advance. Close to $5k

            • @easternculture: any plans to prepaid water or power / gas if you have them?

I remember using these to pay for a cruise it was good

              • @Poor Ass: Yep, i already have $200 gas and $300 water to pay so might top the water up. With gas i regularly churn so no point

                • @easternculture: well I guess you can credit the account to get a refund when you churn

couple of ways to make these $250 back into cash but requires effort… rather just use them

        • did you use the same credit card? bought twice 2 different cards stopped working now

    • Isn't there a transaction fee when you pay with card?

      • no

there is an activation fee $250 + $7 activation fee

if there is a transaction fee it would be your card and probably best to bin it

        • I mean when you pay for council fees, fines, rego, taxes, etc. with a visa/mastercard, isn't there a card fee? I always pay with Bpay.

          • +1

@StealaDeal: there is but the overall discount is worth it

Bpay you are just using non discounted money if that makes sense

it's like a 7.48% saving just by buying the $250 card with $7 activation

so your <1% surcharge is pretty minimal
