Lowest cancellation rate in January? Well done on cherry picking stats, same graph you refer to shows on time departures of 69%
Roughly one third of flights delayed, pick another camel, this one’s a dromedary.
Pick up your performance Jetstar, and I’ll look at your drip pricing, another comparison you fail at badly.

  • Cancellation rate is a critical metric for all travellers, even though other metrics are also important (especially for business travellers).

There are few things worse than having a flight cancelled close to the departure date/time (or after you've taken the first of 2+ flights on the same booking) and being moved to a completely unviable alternative, which may be 10+ hours after the original scheduled departure or even 1, 2 or more days later.

I've had this happen a number of times in the past year and the cost to make other last minute arrangements has ranged up to $1,000.

same graph you refer to shows on time departures of 69%

Departures on time are irrelevant, the relevant metric is obviously arrivals on time. Jetstar's 71.5% lags behind the national average of 73.4% (although is ahead of VA as a group 67.9%).

Don't forget to add the cost of two additional night accommodation and associated leave from work if planning to attend an event. Otherwise you are a good chance of missing the event when choosing to fly with these burglars.

    • They have fewer cancellations than Qantas, Virgin & Bonza.

Same applies. They are all crap for reliability because they have our politicians in their pockets. If only the penalties in place in the EU for flight cancellations were applied here, there would be a lot less.

  • Love your work as always OP! But just wanted to flag that all of the Melbourne flights are from Tullamarine (except Gold Coast), they're listed as being from Avalon.

  • I just had a Jetstar flight from BRS to CNS get cancelled last week after it was delayed at the BRS airport. I actually boarded the plane but there was a strange smell and all of us were asked to get off the plane and wait. The flight was eventually cancelled and the next flight was 1130 the next day, which was delayed by over 30 minutes.

I am boycotting Virgin until they sort out their mess. They cancelled one of my flights in Dec 2023 without explanation. When I tried to claim my expenses, they did an investigation that took a long time and told me it was Sydney airport's fault that the flight got cancelled and they won't reimburse my expenses. Very poor communication from them.
