Virgin Australia is running the "It's March and I need a holiday" (these names are getting ridiculous) sale:

All choice fares include carry-on, checked luggage etc. Lite fares are carry-on only. Note also that some are one way fares, some are return, but regardless, always test two one ways vs a return.

      Snow season is QT is barely even snow season. I highly recommend northern Japan instead. Overall costs end up being on par. (source: have done both)

        I’ve heard that Japan is so good. What differences would you say? Whats the difference between the two experiences? I’ve been to Japan twice but never during snow season

          It actually snows, no lift lines if you pick the right resort. Generally about the same amount of aussies if you go to the popular ones.

          Lift tickets can be 4000-8000 yen per day depending where you go, the food is much better too. More options in your day off.

              @Yafuturefavorite: Hokkiado ( Nth Island)
              * Niseko - more westernised/Australians.Modern feel. A bit pricier.
              * Rusutsu Resort - bit like a Japanese disneyland. Merry Go Round in building & nice patisserie. We went 9 yrs ago in Feb ( snow was melting). But Redbull X Snow Games was on ( snow bikes/buggys racing)
              Also an area with ponies to feed.
              *Tomamu ( my fave, got an early bird upgrade from Japan Travel Sydney, to a better bathroom ! Sauna & spa & view of ski run)
              *Sahoro - smaller mtns. Club med & another resort there. Not a lot of budget friendly accom. Club Med usually has early bird deals.All inclusive. Ski in/out. 3 meals plus in btn. Lessons are free but in grps
              *Furano - more apartments & hostels. Quieter. Famous for Lavender. Can do x country there. Lots of nice little eateries. Supermarket in town for self catering. Fou d a ski instructor ( English speaking) that taught sp needs kids. Win win! 1 on 1 ski instructors are $$ but still cheaper than in Aust.esp if youve wadted money on grp lessons your child didnt want to attend !

              FYI - ski hire is expensive in Japan. Hire locally. You can get resorts to adjust your gear. Buy used or rent good ski gear. It can get cold and windy - more than Thredbo.

                If you're flying to Hokkaido. Korea Air from Sydney does direct flights to the main airport.

                It has low priority in the Airport in Japan. We used Jetstar from Tokyo to Sapporo Airport one year. Sapporo airport runway shut down due to the snow/weather. Flight cancelled. We missed our booked bus to the resort. Couldn't find out when the next Jetstar flight was leaving since other local Jap airlines had priority.
                Lots of Australian skiers/boarders were frustrated. I think they were caught out and travelling on a tight budget and didn't have insurance. We did & always took it up. Medical care in Japan for travellers is $$$ for ski accidents. So pls take out ins. We stayed at a hotel near the airport & the staff helped us contact our resort & see when we were flying out the next day.

                  It seems so nice. I’ve googled those places you listed and they look amazing. It just seems so hard to organize haha I’m going to really work out the details & hopefully do it

                  With ski hire being so expensive, is it hard to buy locally there? Wouldn’t they be a waste of money cos essentially I’d only use them for 3 or 4 days before leaving them there!

              @Yafuturefavorite: Other poster has covered some great Hokkaido options. What resort depend what you feel like, groomers? Small cost Japanese style? Side country? Back country + touring?

              Any resort you pick with fresh snow fall will be good. Check out powder hounds.

              There are also some small local ones, I’m talking 1-2 chair lifts on a small hill which will set you back 800-1500 yen for the whole day.
