  • $549 for me?

    • +1

Afterpay Day 10% off in cart makes it $494.10.

    • 10% auto applied to cart

      • Ah sorry my bad!

  • Nice deal. Thanks

  • Is it a good device for Plex server considering the media is on the NAS connected via 2.5Gbe network?

    • +1

It would be fine operating over a normal gigabit ethernet connection to the NAS for accessing raw media unless you are planning on streaming 8+ raw blu-ray rips simultaneously.
As a reformed Plex lifetime owner I highly recommend looking at Jellyfin instead of Plex particularly if setting up a new system.

      • Would you mind sharing a bit more on that?
For me Plex’s selling point is their app is everywhere.

My plan is to use Plex clients in LG TVs and iPhones/iPads clients (for downloading and offline watching in the train)

Can you do the same with Jelkyfin?

        • +1

You can, they have apps for iOS, and WebOS. or you can also use Infuse on iOS (necessary for Apple TV's).

I always recommend people try each of the three big ones(Emby as well) to see what they gel with most. However my experience with Jellyfin personally, is it is just not quite there yet, and unsure if it ever will be. It's been sitting at almost for about 6 years now (at least ever since I jumped on this scene).
The biggest pain point I had is media matching requires a tonne more work than plex. With plex I had 99.9% matched with minimal fixing. Jellyfin it was about 70% match, and this is with Filebot fixing all my initial file names to align with tvdb/moviedb. So the file names are not at play here. It just needed more work.

there's also no xbox, or ps5, or samsung tv client. So that is something to consider if any of your users may have those devices.

also remote users is a bit more work, as it requires IP's so if you don't have a static IP or have set up a domain at extra cost, it can be painful. Especially setting it up for non tech users.

The only real advantage I found Jellyfin had, was it was useable if your internet goes down and you're on the local network. So that's honestly the only reason I have it installed still, and honestly that has occurred once in 6 years.

For a lot of people the lack of plex clutter is a huge advantage too. It is purely your hosted material and not a single thing more. Which to some, that is a huge advantage. To me, the plex stuff is easily removed in my estimation so it has never been a bother, but others definitely disagree with that.

Jellyfin definitely has a lot of potential, however until it has feature parity with Plex, it's just not there yet, and yeah as I mentioned before. It has been sitting in the 'not there yet' category to me for a long while now.

    • +1

Yeah this perfect for plex. Will handle a tonne of transcodes, I have the 1215u and it absolutely kills it, and this is a good 20% more powerful.

  • +3

I know these are EoL but that's a pretty insane price. We used to sell these (albeit with 16Gb) for over $1000.

Can highly recommend you grab them if you're on the fence.

    • +1

That was when Intel supported them.

    • +1

Agree, these are office workhorses. I paid 1k each in Dec23. Would buy more except I prefer tall's

    • What do you mean by End of Life? How were they supported and now no longer?

  • There is a lot of great NUCs out there but ones with HDMI 2.1 are rare as hens teeth. A real shame as I am super keen for one to hook up to a TV :(

  • Does anyone know if this can output 4k120 over the TB4 port?

    • +3

      This has no tb ports

      • -2

        Incorrect!
There are two TB4 ports in the back.

        • Yeh, I thought it come with 2 x TB4 too.

        • Incorrect!
There are two TB4 ports in the back.

          Oh, boy.
          I was wrong.
Just picked it up today and this model doesn't have TB4 in the back.
Still Ok for me to use as a media server with files served via network.
Otherwise a bummer for desktop use.
          Intel could do 1xHDMI + 1xTB4 instead of 2xHDMI. :(
But they have reasons not to.

          • +1

            @SickDmith: The H model has 2 x HDMI AND 2 x TB.

Apparently this K model is missing the TB ports.

I didn't pick up on it when this deal came up but Intel DID have a model with all you can eat. Almost impossible to find now though the product is EoL.

  • Would this work as a basic office computer for general tasks? Mostly just word processing etc but occasional video and screen capture work.

    • +2

yeah would nail that use case

  • Good deal for what you're getting. If you don't do gaming.

  • +1

    Weird.

Picked one up. It's missing USB-C ports??? It has zero usb-c ports

    Ram is 2 x 4gb

    SSD is Samsung PM9A1

EDIT: It's a "lite" version - no thunderbolt ports
    this sucks massively

    • -1

Think it should have 2 thunderbolt tho.

    • aaahhh that might explain things a little.

The Full SKU of the ones we sell is NUC12WSHi50001

I didn't pick up on the H vs K. The H has two Thunderbolt 4 ports on the back above each HDMI port.

My wholesale BUY price on those suckers was $620ex. They are no longer available

Still a big Delta but at least it's not the same model I was thinking we had. That's why I thought the price was insane.

I think we only have a few 13 Pros left. From now on Intel NUC is gone. Asus has taken over their NUC business. Just FYI.

Also if you need warranty on this one you have to call Asus.

    • So you pick up one of these at BingLee? and it doesn't have 2 x Thunderbolt 4?

      • yes

        • Hmm..time to cancel my order, since it doesn't come with TB4.
