Bonus Dewalt XR 18V 2Ah Battery (Worth $95) & Charger (Worth $159) with Purchase of Power Pruner (Skin) $207 Del'd @ Total Tools

670

Spotted this deal when looking for a different Dewalt item. The bonuses are worth more than the tool itself.

Seems to be a Total Tools promo not from Dewalt itself. So no waiting to redeem.

Just picked all of it up in store (Perth) and they had plenty of stock.

    Review of the year:

    Rough n Tough
Got this to properly deal with an overgrown vine / bush on a job - paid for itself in no time. Pros: variable speed trigger, power, speed, easy on batteries. Cons: would be dangerous if you were the groundskeeper at a nudist colony..

    • Ouch !

    • groundskeeper at a nudist colony.. ?! Ouch!

  • Does anyone here own this? Just curious how it compares to other brands quality and durability wise

    • +5

      AvE review here

    • I do. Good and scary. Feels like you could chop off your fingers anytime.

  • +1

Decent deal but those battery chargers are all over marketplace etc for about $30. AvE reviewed it with similar warning for some more LOLs

    • +1

Yep agree about the charger - not worth the RRP. I've been eyeing a power pruner for a while though and the bonus battery is a great sweetener.

  • +2

bought one thanks Rhys ^^) great for my elderly parents

  • Does it work on fingers? Asking for a russian frined

    • +1

A good set of bolt cutters will achieve the same results your Russian friend is after, much cheaper too

  • Bought one, thanks OP!

  • I have one of these…cuts through branches like butter and hardly uses any battery. Just have to practice mindfulness when pruning so you keep all your fingers!

    • What's the thickest branch you've cut? Do you need to sharpen the blades in the future to maintain sharpness? What do you do for maintenance? Eg rub oil on the blades?

      • Anything under 10mm diameter is easily chopped off in one go. The thickest I have done is probably 30mm. Lazy to go and grab my reciprocating saw and this took it off in abt 5 snaps.

Worth a watch if you haven't seen it. He's one of the smartest guys on youtube but hides it well

  • How does this compare to ozito pruner?

    • 38mm vs 25mm.
Also take consideration of the platform/ecosystem.

    • My neighbour bought a ryobi after trying mine (he is into the Ryobi ecosystem) and he was pretty disappointed in how it compares. I dont think Ozito can do much better.

  • i like hacking away at the branches with my mini axe or the big handle loppers
    fun weekend times

  • I grabbed one last night!
Brain was fried didn't even think to post on Oz bargains

  • Thanks OP ..my Ali Express one shat itself.. this is 3 times the price but the free battery makes it worthwhile given how useful it has been

  • Recently got an electric chainsaw.
Makes easy work of pruning ,
and leaves a nice clean cut .

    • +1

Like a mini handheld one? What did you get?

I’ve already got a Ryobi bypass lopper, but looking for something I can do slightly bigger stuff with but is one-handed.

      • It’s a 36v Metabo .
But if you want one handed , which I think would be the go for 18v ,
I’d try to demo before buying , like they do with stihl/husky .
Make sure it’s what you want and it’s actually got enough power for what you need .

        • -1

Dont pay $200 + for a branded one.

Just an unbranded $50 from amazon or ebay would serve the purpose. Taking seasons into consideration, these mini saw will last at least for two years or so. good bang for your bucks…

        • -2

You’d probably be much better off with the dewalt power pruner than a toy chainsaw .
Even the bigger electric chainsaw’s are a bit like toys , but for older people etc either may be suitable .

  • Damn it. I bought into Makita OPE, but the DeWalt gear is so much cheaper. I.E; the pole saw is like $200 odd, whereas the Makita is like $800. It’s (profanity)! Argh! Ah well, rant over. I do think I need to hand in my OzBargain Badge though.

    • +5

yea.. i was getting sick of makita tools never going on sale.. so i bought the bosch mitre saw with battery onsale.. bought a few more 8am batteries off ebay.. then bought the bosch orbital sander, screw gun + auto attachment off amazon. now bought this dewalt kit with charger and battery.. so i can take advantage of more sales.. because more platforms i have, more sales i can take advantage of etc some people want to only stick to 1 platform.. but that can limit your choices.. might be a good idea for a pro tradesman. but for me i dont worry about carting all my batteries and charges around with me.. cause im not pro and use most stuff around house.. hehe

      • +1

Makes a lot of sense. I’m thinking I’ll have to do the same thing, cause yeah Makita just seems overpriced.

  • +1

I have Makita stuff too. Makita Equivalent $1199 :)

    • +1

lol thats a stupid price haha

    • +1

The Makita is designed for professional use such as orchardists using it 40hrs a week. They used to run air pruners which cost a similar amount. Different category of tool to the dewalt.

      • Oh nice

  • +2

All good though, can place the off cuts into the electric wheelbarrow $7699 :O :)

    • Could stick a seat on the back for people with mobility issues…

  • I really really want to buy this. Just wish it was a bit cheaper.

    • +3

This is the best it will ever get, esp if you are not aldy into the Dewalt ecosystem. A complete package for $200, really cant be asking more.

Bosch green came out with a power pruner a few years back and that was one of the first power pruners available. Cost $150 ish and works like a toy. This is a real workhorse in comparison.

Btw I have 4 Felcos and they have been almost forgotten after I got this. Felco deals really nicely with smaller branches but the Dewalt is just so much versatile. You can get almost 95% pruning done with just itself.

  • Good luck receiving redemptions from dewalt
They're a fraud. Check dewalt reviews mate

    • +1

This is a direct redemption from Total Tools - not from Dewalt. But I agree personally they've stuffed me over, never got a few redemptions!

      • +3

They have sent out most of my redemptions in somehow reasonable timeframe (i.e. 4-6 weeks) but they definitely could have been more transparent with the progress. Now they don't even send out the redemption approved email anymore.

However they do seem to keep an eye on irregularities. Once I have bought a kit for $700 ish at Bunnings and the redemption was processed with no drama. About a month later I saw another identical kit being marked down at $500 so I bought it again, the redemption went into the thin air for almost 3 months until it occured to me that I still have not received anything. I email them with no reply. I called them and was told the person in charge would call me back but never happened. I called them again asking to speak to the manager and finally someone told me they were doing additional checks on my redemption as it was a duplicate of my earlier one. They said they have asked Bunnings to validate the status of my receipt to check if it has been returned but never got any response. They also said Bunnings told them there was a return on the same unit made on the day when I have purchase my 2nd unit (which might be exactly the unit I have purchased and that explained the $200 markdown) and they found it potentially fraudulent (maybe I returned my old unit and somehow decided to buy it back again to get an additional redemption item)

Luckily I have been lazy in reselling one of the units (my plan was to just keep the batteries and sell the tools) and sent them a photo of both units side by side together each with its own receipt. They have then approved my redemption request after I sent through the email.

I think I find their process reasonable but the communication is just horrible. If I was a little more efficient in reselling one of them (which is fully within my rights to do so), it would be a lot more painful to get Bunnings to certify I have returned neither units to get my 2nd redemption. I bet they found out the problem shortly after I have submitted my 2nd redemption but have not done anything to notify me in 3 months until I went to them.

  • Thanks OP!

The shape makes it awkward to use in tight or high places. I suspect it will cause fatigue too

    • Got one and the missus love using it.

    • I think it is designed mostly for home/occasional use. Pro pruners like the Felco 822 cost you $3000+ Even the Makita with a piggy back battery cost more tha $1000.

But yeah I do agree Dewalt has made a funny design that is different from almost everyone else. The extension-of-arm style should be a better choice.

  • Went to a few stores in northern Brisbane today and they are all sold out. I placed an order online and just got a call that the charger is on back order and will be 1-2 weeks.

  • +1

Staff called: apparently it is sold out almost everywhere, but they are still accepting orders. Delivery maybe be an extra 2 weeks though.

    • Yeah - I called them to find out when I could go collect and told the same.

    • They called me with the same info. All good can handle 2 more weeks until Autumn pruning kicks in :)

  • +1

I paid $239 2 months back for the skin alone pruner. At the time I thought it was really expensive compared to the deals I had managed on other Dewalt 18v tools.
It works really well for what I use it for ( Bamboo in confined space)

  • Did anyone got refunded on this deal? I got my order refunded today

    • +1

When I checked tracking it shows cancelled. No correspondence otherwise. Deal doesn't exist anymore.

    • I phoned and messaged them on Facebook, on Monday and was told they're OOS - so I said that I'm happy to wait (they put a note on the order stating this - so they told me) and then yesterday received a bunch of correspondence from TotalTools saying they were trying to located stock for me; later that they'd found it in Sunshine and they've posted it to me (should arrive Friday or Monday, according to Aus. Post).

Sorry this message is a bit late, but perhaps you could phone and see what they could do for you?

  • Oos however still selling the skin alone fir higher price.

  • OOS, but on backorder. Mid april so they say. Ordered Sunday morning.

  • first email from TT… ", unfortunately, TT Braeside is currently out of stock of your ordered item. I sincerely apologise for this inconvenience.

We are currently working with TT Mildura who confirmed stock availability considering the limited stock situation."

second email from TT" unfortunately, TT Mildura is currently out of stock of your ordered item. I sincerely apologise for this inconvenience.

We are currently working with TT Ballarat who confirmed stock availability considering the limited stock situation.

3rd email from TT…. "Your package is on its way

    Woot!

  • Got my delivery today from the Brookvale team. Finally will get into the work this coming weekend. Nice bit of kit, I think in hindsight a pretty good deal!
