thanks for suggestion - bold the shipping to make it clearer now

    • $14.15 to WA (uninsured) - bit much, given that you can get an NL40 Microserver shipped for that from some places.

  • +1

any chance of a deal on the N40L?
    deal to include a hdd?

  • hp microserver deal please

  • +8

May as well wlak into centrecom, CPL, Landmark computers, MSY and pick one up for the same price and not have them bashed around in transit to your door. So price is ok but after adding shipping not really a special deal now is it.

    • +2

Not everyone lives close to a major computer retailer so may be good for some of us not so fortuate ones :-)

  • +1

N40L deal please. like to get N40L + Samsung SSD + couple of HDDs

    • support!

    • more support!

  • +2

    Shipping price kills the deal.

    • +1

If Shipping is a big concern, you might want to consider buying something small (USB Flash, SD cards etc) or more than 1 SSD to bring the average cost down.

      • +16

        I know a easy fix - FREE SHIPPING :)

        • +6

          :).

        • +17

          :) = I understand but unfortunately we can't.

We beat everyone's price on Staticice with our Price + shipping (on many areas). Having to doing a FREE shipping on top would be pretty challenging as we are called ShoppingExpress, not AustPost :). Some of our prices also beat our competitors by a fair amount, eg. 256GB and 512GB models.

other Brands out there may be cheaper - but if you are looking for Samsung SSDs - i have not seen better.

        • +5

Samsung 830 128GB is 96$ in Umart , so I dont think all the prices are beaten. Shipping makes these prices slightly higher than Umart and people still tend to go and buy from a Store for the peace of mind of replacing over the counter in case of a DOA.

        • You guys should offer pickups to help avoid shipping fees.

        • 128GB - $89
Samsung 830 128GB is 96$ in Umart , so I dont think all the prices are beaten.

Ok, forgive me if the prices had changed since the original post; but last time I checked $89 was less than $96…well, with my old skool maffs anyway! ;)

  • Acer S3 deal doesn't sound too bad (to me at least!).. any suggestions fellow Oz bargainers?

  • oh damn just bought a plextor m5s yesterday damn!

    • I also bought the plextor m5s. The performance is almost similar and you save $30 plus from it :)

  • +1

I think that Acer is a better deal than the SSD's - well worth it.

    • limited clearance stock on the Acer Ultrabooks - orders are coming through - so you may need to act fast.

  • +1

    Awesome price on the Acer

  • Just bought the Acer. Makes all the tablet options look a little tame in comparison in my opinion.

  • Samsung 830 512GB under $400 mark will be sweet.

  • well, MSY has dropped the price for Samsung 830 128GB to $96 so unfortunately I can't vote +ve for this deal…

    • +4

So is this the only model out of the 4 that you are not satisfied with the price?
It should be reasonable to recommend this deal to others with a positive vote considering other model's prices are acceptable for you?

  • Acer S3 is sold out.

  • Was just contemplating getting one!

  • +1

rep, is the acer sold out?pls confirm

    • +1

      yup, sold out…

  • Such a shame - those Acer Ultrabooks really fly for the price.

    • Yeah it looked reasonable to me, the main weakness being the display resolution, at 1366 x 768 resolution it seems a little low and you can never upgrade it. And I suspect the retailers know this, which is why they don't seem to (as far I can see) show the resolution. Instead, had to Google for similar model numbers to find out this info.

      • +1

yes unfortunately there are too many fast decision makers on ozbargain - able to value/ready to grab a bargain anytime - sold out much quicker than i forecast.

        • +1

          Ouch…lesson learnt.. Don't think to much..just grab it.. :)

        • +1

As the actress said to the bishop. ;-)

  • Damn, I wouldve picked up one of those Acers for sure :(.

Seriously, this is considered an ultrabook?

At 1.38kg, it's almost DOUBLE the weight of the Toshiba Satellite z930: admittedly, at the time of its release the z930 was supposed to be the world's lightest ultrabook, and its RRP is 4x the offer price for this heavyweight Acer behemoth (I sure as shiznit din't pay RRP for our z930, y'all: $764 from Hardly Normal, then got the GST back off Jooooolia and her parasite cronies - so $690ish).

I suppose the Acer behemoth is half the weight of our ASUS K52N ("Cartman" or "fatass" hereafter), but really - ultrabook? I.think.not

    • Ummmm…I think you'll find the z930 starts at around 1.1kg.

      Hence yes…Ultrabook.

Considering HN has the z930 for 1286$ currently and the fact that the cheapest price online is around $990 I'm going to say your comment about picking one up for ~760 is pretty unlikely.

      • You probably need to spend more time around here before calling people liars, young'un.

        https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/80721

        • Fair enough - it still isn't available at that price at the moment though.

I'd wager I've spent more time here than your good self - not having an account doesn't mean someone is new.

          Cheers

        • That's fine, and obviously that deal has now ended, but that's not what you said - you said you doubted Diogenes got a Z930 for $764. That's empirically wrong, it was a well-publicised bargain and there was plenty of stock, I got a few too as after claiming back input credits it was about $200 below the price from the usual source.

I'm not having a go at you, but when I see something that is blatantly wrong my finger starts to twitch a little to correct it. Most of the time I say nothing, sometimes I do.

Not that it has much to do with anything when we're talking about a one-month old bargain, but I was on OzBargain since there was an Ozbargain, and I read the blog that preceded it from late 2005. Like you, I lurked until I had something to say.

          Cheers :-)

    • Not aware of any weight requirement for classification as ultrabook.
      Ref http://arstechnica.com/gadgets/2012/01/ultra-in-name-only-th…

    • For the record this was the first ULTRABOOK on the market. So whilst its specs may not be as impresive as some of the more recent models which are about a year newer its still relatively thin, boasts a SSD and runs a low energy consumption chipset so as to squeeze a little more out of its battery life.

    • I up voted you just on the Joolia and parasite cronies comment.

Acer ultrabook is sold out, already!? Please update the special description/body. And might I add how unimpressed I am that this "weekend" special has sold out after less than three and a half hours - before the weekend has technically started?

  • crap… sold out so fast

  • damm, would have grabbed one of those acer laptops, any more coming?

    • +2

can only find out by next week, will try to nego some deals - seeing how popular they are

      • Can you do a deal on an Acer M3 481tg or m5 481tg pleasee :D

  • Just be aware also the Acer S3 has a 38Whr battery and runs a HDD+SSD setup. Very low spec battery and the storage setup will chew it up faster than a dedicated SSD configuration. Eg: HP Folio 13 has a 60Whr battery will get more than 58% better battery life.

  • ShoppingExpress is awesome, that is all.

  • I just wanted to make it clear that this statement:

"Samsung 830 SSD (7mm thick, suits all desktop pcs & laptops - including ultra thin laptops)"

    Is not actually true!

Standard 2.5" drive height is 9.5mm, not 7mm. Some laptops, including my own HP laptop (newish Core i3 laptop) only takes 9.5mm high drives. The samsung 830 won't fit. Some of the 830 series comes in a "notebook" version which includes a special "riser" to make it fit, but the 64Gb version does NOT include this! The 128Gb and 256Gb versions come in two flavours - desktop and notebook. The desktop version is the one typically sold in most stores.

So be warned people. That said, Samsung SSD's are great, I have a 64Gb one and a 256GB in my desktops (and an Intel SSD in my laptop since the damn Samsung wouldn't fit).

    • So you mean for Samsung 830 SSD, desktop version is 9.5mm and laptop version is 7mm? I thought you can always buy a 'riser' to make a 7mm SSD fit in your laptop's 9.5mm slot?

      • No… technically both versions are 7mm, but the notebook version comes with that riser included. So if it doesn't include it, and you have a laptop that only works with 9.5mm drives, you have to go and buy a riser separately (if you can? I have no idea).

    • All Samsung ssd's come with the plastic adding riser to make it compatible.

      • No - they don't. Most of the Samsung kits for sale are the bare drive kits - just the drive, no riser, no screws, no cables.

The "Laptop Kit" version is the one that has the riser, but they don't sell that in the 64Gb version.

I've got a 256Gb version sitting on my desk right now ready for installation, it didn't come with the riser.

  • I want to get an acer laptop too :(

    Sold out so fast…

  • I have a netbook with a dead hard disk. =( (delays on that disk keeps increasing, though no bad sectors detected)
Get an SSD to replace? or not worth putting an SSD in a netbook?
    its a NB550D

    • just my opinion, but i tried this and it was almost definitely not worth it… i think the era of the netbook is dead with sub $500 ultrabooks. Yes, I know that its almost double the price of a netbook but the truth is that the difference in performance is so great that using a netbook is like using an old nokia phone to browse the net in the era of smartphones… sure it will WORK but the experience is just way less pleasant than what other options are available.

Netbooks were great for a stopgap measure; they forced the price of regular laptops way down as companies learned that people who only needed word processing and web browsing would not pay premium prices for large heavy laptops… now I feel like they've done this job as 'normal' laptops are small/thin/affordable/long lasting battery enough to the point that buying a netbook doesn't make sense any more.

    • It depends on what you value and what you use the netbook for. SSDs are fast and silent, for me it's worth it.

  • double post, sorry
