It says the LCD display console is 7.40ft by 4.66ft and runs on 3 AAA batteries. Surely that's a typo. Would have to be AA's.

      A couple of 9v I would think

I would say they have the decimal in the wrong spot. The display screen is about 15cm x 8cm. The 3AAA batteries are only for power outages. I haven't long replaced the AA batteries in the weather station. They lasted over 3 years.

Mine runs off a DC plug pack but yeah, the batteries are only 3xAAA to keep it going it when the power drops out. You can run the screen off the batteries only but I expect it would burn through batteries very quickly especially when connected WiFi. So while the screen is bigger and pretty sure is 3 x AAA - but EcoWitt screens don’t use a lot of power if they aren’t connected to Wifi but if you choose to then definitely run it on power pack else you’ll spend a small fortune on batteries. The external sensor has a small solar PV on it plus some AA batteries. Suggesting that transmission to screen doesn’t use much power. Not sure how often you have to change the batteries in the outdoor sensor - I haven’t had to change mine yet. Frequency used in AU is 433MHz iirc so usually gets through to screen pretty well. Though it’s the screen that connects to the Wifi and any other sensors you may have around your house. Good unit but I’m interested in their newer models which are less complicated but seems to offer same features.

    But good unit.

If you don't really need the LCD display, wait for the GW1101 to be on special. I bought one Jan '23 and am very happy with it. Indoor unit connects to a USB charger (not supplied), outdoor unit runs on batteries and solar and I haven't changed the batteries yet. Mobile App or Web site lets you see all the details from anywhere.

You'll need a matching galv steel tube and fasteners to set it up. Was around $30 at Bunnings.

  • Looks nice, I’ve actually got the WittBoy and it’s super easy to install and use.
Again if you’re using it with home assistant and the like, the LCD might become E-waste if you’re using Lovelace instead
