Hi there, thank you for taking time to share the deal ~ I'm very much a fan of HP and the games.

My apologies if you're already aware, otherwise you may be interested to learn of ITAD (Is There Any Deal) which aggregates and tracks game prices across platforms and history. You can adjust the site to show your preferred stores / platforms and currency.

Here is the link to Hogwarts Legacy - currently $38.9aud at GMG and close to ATL, and also to Hogwarts Deluxe which indicates this is pretty close to ATL, if buying via GMG.

And again, genuinely thank you for sharing, I hope you continue :)

Thanks for this! I'm not a big gamer so definitely didn't know about ITAD so thank you for sharing :)

There’s also a 3% off voucher from GMG’s Discord in the #giveaways channel. I bought the deluxe version from them last time for $41.21.

Am I the only one who thought this game wasn't actually that good?
Majority of the game felt like a scavenger hunt. I can't help but feel it was overhyped and probably just an average game.

    • +1

I thought it was good - some of the missions were a bit like that as you say, but same with basically any open world game. The real appeal for me was the world and the level of detail in it, and even just exploring the castle for the first few hours was unreal. Combat was fun but got a little bit repetitive, overall I enjoyed it.

    • +1

I guess like anything it varies from person to person. Depends on what people are looking for in a game!
Some people would adore it because of the Harry Potter nostalgia. I definitely fit into that category, but I also really love a scavenger hunt style game without too much complexity that is easy to pick up and put down with weeks/months in between and not forget what I am doing - so it fit me very well.

I loved it, but I do get where you are coming from, a lot of it was just world filler and if you're not super into the HP universe it was no different from a Ubisoft game

That said, I thought the world was really well crafted and held true to the original vision

      100%.

Finally bit the bullet and bought it for the missus a month or two back after giving up on waiting on a sale (still only paid 28 via Eneba), and it's fine. Like the combat is fun, the exploring and whatnot is fun. The story was pretty goddamn mid 90% of the way, the side quests were eh, all the collectibles were cool until you remember you can just hit the left arrow and reveal almost anything nearby you, and a boatload of other stuff is marked on the map as is.

It's a fun little Ubisoft-esque game in the Harry Potter world. I loved the first 3 or 4 of them when I was the right age and then moved on with my life. Unfortunately there's a good deal of adults out there who are (profanity) full blown massive Potterheads, like enjoy them, do whatever, but there is some people who are (profanity) obsessed with this series of children's books and those people are likely the ones who gave it unanimous 100/10s.

As a gamer and casual Harry Potter enjoyer. It's an easy 6 or 7. If the story was better, it could be a lot higher. The core gameplay loop is fine and dandy, I enjoy playing it, but the story sucked ass. I ended up replaying the first Harry Potter game (well two thirds of it anyway, not done yet) casually on Xbox after and I'm honestly enjoying it more. For all the people who loved "exploring the castle and flying around" did y'all forget we have been able to do that for over 20 years? Also with Quidditch no less.

This is an S-tier game for me dog. I'm playing through it now on my RTX 4080 Super PC with my Ultrawide OLED monitor and its absolutely magical. My 6 year old daughter saw me playing it and was totally hooked too - so I bought it on PS5 as well and my daughter is just having the time of her life playing it. She was so excited when she got sorted into Hufflepuff lol. She started singing "Huffle-Puff! Huffle-Puff!" it was so cute.

Idk man - this game is so great for me that I find myself being sceptical of anyone claiming "AKSHUALLY its not that great after all".

It might not be for you - heck plenty of games aren't for me - I totally suck at First-Person Shooters and avoid them like the plague - BUT Hogwarts Legacy was the best-selling game of 2023 for a good reason - it is simply an awesome - 10/10 - S-tier game. That's a fact.

2023 was a renowned year for gaming. Dozens of bangers came out - but the one which found the best product-market fit was Hogwarts Legacy. That's because its a perfect game based on JK Rowling's creative genius with the wonderful and magical universe which her brilliant brain created all those years ago on a train from London to Scotland - when she was a poor abused struggling single mother on welfare.

      • LOL got JK Rowling here downvoting you guys for saying the game is mid.

        • LOL Wayne T Rooney here downvoting me for saying its good.

I would say let the numbers speak for themselves, Witcher 3 has more daily and concurrent players than Hogwarts and Cyberpunk has about double. I think 1/5 of my friends actually completed the game most lost interest before they could complete and I lost interest in watching gameplay, unfortunately little variety in enemy types turns what could have been a good game into something very bland.

        • -1

Meanwhile Hogwarts Legacy has higher concurrent players at this very moment than The Witcher 3 does.
          proof: - https://steamcharts.com/cmp/990080,292030#48h
Besides which - when you're comparing Hogwarts Legacy to The Witcher 3 and Cyberpunk - 2 all-time classic cult favourite Best-seller games - i.e. 2 games which wouldn't look out of place on anybody's "Top 10 Games of All-Time" lists…. You know you're in good company.

Anyway - Hogwarts Legacy sold proportionally more on Console than on PC.
A fairer comparison would be between Hogwarts Legacy and Spider-man Remastered - which was the game I clocked before starting Hogwarts:
          https://steamcharts.com/cmp/990080,1817070#48h
Yeah… There's no comparison. Even though Spider-man Remastered is great and I rank it a solid B+ tier, maaybe even A tier - it just can't compare to the brilliance of Hogwarts Legacy.

I thought it was a good game. Lots to do and a lot of fun. For fans of HP, this is a must play. It is fairly similar in gameplay to the Witcher 3 game which most consider one of the best games ever made.

    • The hype is because it is a Harry Potter (basically character substitution, thick with references) game.
It is certainly an average game without that, though does hit cutting edge AAA visuals targets, on cutting edge hardware.

But for a movie/book spinoff game it did a really good job of it. It is a category with a low bar usually judged on not screwing up the source material too badly, but they really did nail the lore and most of the book/film references which fans want to interact with. Lack of broom soccer being one exception which made fans unhappy.

A lot of the "hype" was also the controversy of people trying to organise a boycott (epic failure) because they dont like the old lady who wrote the books 25 years ago. That whole saga boosted sales and interest if anything.

my girlfriend likes Harry Potter but doesn't really play games. she plays animal crossing but did anyone have a similar experience, how did your misuss find the game and the controls (ie was it difficult to learn)?

    • My partner is similar, she mainly plays Sims 4 and a few story based games, but is a huge HP fan so I bought this game for her.

She picked up the controls really quick. Her favourite part of the game is collecting different clothes and changing her outfit lol.

Maybe don’t buy a game that puts money in the pocket of someone who is currently engaged in holocaust distortion and denial. Hate to say it folks but JK has gone full mask off bigot in the last few weeks. There is now incontestable proof that she’s an aggressive anti-trans bigot and is a dangerous ally to the far right trying to use the scapegoating of trans people to attack all LGBT rights. In case giving this deal a minus seems like an overreaction - she is now the moral equivalent of an unashamed, highly politically influential white supremacist. Being an anti-trans bigot is the same framework of evil, and no one should EVER buy anything from a white supremacist or support them financially in any way cuz they’re monstrously evil and giving them more power is a Bad Deal for all of society.

Bro goes on a 33 minute tirade about how J.K. Rowling would probably be against the rampant child sex abuse and extreme sexual perversion that was occurring in the Weimar Republic and some depraved Jewish-German sexologist who was around at the time and seems exasperated that then - "FOR NO REASON AT ALL" - the German people voted Hitler into power…

      • Bro conflates being LGBT with being a pedophile and sexual pervert and then gives creedence to germans voting in a fascist, as if that's understandable if queer people are being allowed to exist in a given society?? Terrible, deeply unaustralian, deranged far-right ideas you got there mate. Just know that if you ever show your head in the real world there will always be an army of antifascists there to remind you you're a terribly lonely minority.
