CyberGhost VPN: 2 Years Subscription + Bonus 4 Months - 28 Months for A$93.52 (GST Inclusive)

60

I've used these guys in the past and they're the 5th best rated VPN service provider by Cybernews - https://cybernews.com/best-vpn/

A more detailed review - https://cybernews.com/best-vpn/cyberghost-vpn-review/

I especially like they have many endpoints around the world, including China - which comes in handy if you travel and say want to buy online content for xbox etc.

28 months access for $93.something AUD (inc. GST) is about $3.33 AUD a month.

The subsciption supports up to 7 devices but apparently their android and Mac software isn't as good as their Windows software.

EDIT: I forgot to add that you can also get 22% cashback from shopback, then go to the cyberghost site.

    cybernews

Thank goodness for such an authoritative & totally unbiased source.

    • you have google and it'll help more to do research than youtube will.

      • NordVPN is pretty much free if you take even a cursory look around this site. No research necessary.

        • I'm more concerned by cashback sites giving nearly 100% money back - nothing is free and if it is, then your data is the product being farmed.

      but

they're the 5th best rated VPN service provider by Cybernews.

number one is NordVPN, which can be had every other week for almost free via SB/CR. But that also tells you about the quality of the affiliate links err I mean article.

      • haven't seen any of those bargains posted - please provide a link, because I can use the up to 45 day usage/cancellation that ghostvpn supports.

        • Tried search?

          • @dealmaker: when someone makes a statement, it is usually up to them to also back up that statement with evidence - hence my asking for a link.

        • +1

You have been here since 2010 and you dont know how to search on ozb?

          • @HolyCr4p: a) that is not what I said or even hinted at.
            b) when someone makes a statement, it is usually up to them to also back up that statement with evidence - hence my asking for a link.

          • @M00Cow: I'm not in the habit of setting alerts for things I'm not specifically interested in, or don't perform the function I want them to do.

      • nordvpn may be number one, but they don't have any endpoints in China - so they are not fit for purpose for me.

        • good for you.
My comment wasn't for your benefit.

          • @M00Cow: and my recommendation for a vpn service that does what I need it to do, and which may be useful to others obviously was not for your benefit. Yet you continue to bleat, sorry … moo on about it.

            • +1

@gizmomelb: so you post a deal & mentioned the VPN provider is rank #5

I commented about how you can get the #1 ranked one for virtually free every other week on this site. You claim you've never seen such deal and demanded a link so you might be able to use the 45 day refund. rather then saying use the search function, you've been a member for years, I provided you a link to past NordVPN deals including 7 so far this year and thought I'd be extra helpful and suggest you use the alert function to let you know of a new NordVPN deal. so instead of say thanks, you just dismiss it as something that you wouldn't do. And apparently I'm bleating on. fair enough. I won't waste your time with cheaper VPNs with endpoints in China

              • @M00Cow: Nord don't have endpoints in China, so the service is of no use to me whatsoever. So why would I search or set up alerts? It makes zero sense. btw I upvoted you for not wasting any more of my time.

Have been using this since a deal on here in 2021. Now set until 2027.

    Thanks.

    • probably too late for you since you already bought it, but cashback was $18.63

      • +1

Thanks but I don't bother with the cashbacks. I would probably buy stuff I don't need more than I already do and I don't need the frustration of having them not pay out like I see so many posts about.

Why are people still buying into VPN = security/privacy bullshit in 2024?

every VPN company = "we dont log your data"

reality: of course they do, more than ISP's do…..

if you arent up to no good, you have nothing to worry about, simples…

    • Why are people still buying into VPN = security/privacy bullshit in 2024?

      because we're not.

if you arent up to no good, you have nothing to worry about, simples…

because simpletons assume that VPNs are exclusively used for privacy.

      • because we're usually right about people pirating via them, whether it be filesharing via newsgroups or breaking geoblocks (thats still piracy i hate to tell you) - theres little other reason for them to exist

        • because we're usually right about people pirating via them,

          you didn't mention piracy.

          you said

Why are people still buying into VPN = security/privacy bullshit in 2024?

          This time you're claiming

theres little other reason for them to exist

But yet again you're just assuming.5)

          1) Telcos, notably Telstra gives a high priority to data traffic over a VPN (as they assume it's business related)
          2) Some websites show you different content depending on where they think you are. BBC, CNN, the Register to name a few. VPN helps you see the "local" content you're interested in, rather then the content they believe you're after.
          3) Circumventing geoblocks is not piracy
          4) Limiting what other can see about your websurfing habits, such as your ISP, who can collect and sell such data. So can VPN providers (like you originally said), but that's a choice for the individual.
          5) Some websites charge different pricing for the same product or service depending on your IP. address. Some websites add a GST, which I believe they pocket, instead of giving to.the ATO. Some websites show different items depending on where they believe you are. I remember trying to buy a coat from.Mark & Spencers to get delivered to a friend in the UK, it was during our summer so they insisted on showing me summer stuff and only stuff they were shipping from Hong Kong warehouse. went in via UK VPN, tada, I was able to purchase the coat.

Sometimes it's good to take those blinkers off and don't assume you know everything..I know I don't.

BTW, I +1 your original comment, not neg'd it. Because I agree with your sentiments regarding paid VPN != privacy. without any proof, I suspect most VPN's are owned or pwnd by govt security services across the world. As is the concept that your provider is better outside the 5/6/5+3/9/14 eyes countries.

          • @M00Cow: I'm for point 5 - geolocking / region locking = piracy? Ha. It is regionalised capitalism in a global market.

  • Why pay more than the best rated vpn? Search nordvpn on ozbargain.

    • I'll cut and paste this as I'll be using it a lot - because nordvpn don't have any endpoints in China and that is the vpn service I want.

      • +1

Ah bugger. Yea that’s fair. I just got my 100% cashback so $0 for 2.25 years with nord vpn. Useless if it doesn’t have the same points you need though

The only source I would truly trust for reviews is CHOICE magazine, they reviewed 29 VPN's in June 2023 and Cyberghost came 17th out of 29 reviews with a score of 74%.
    The following is a summary of the Cyberghost review;

    Good points
    • Excellent performance from the Australian servers we connected to
    • Very easy to switch servers when already connected
    • Can choose which sites run through the VPN (has split tunnelling)
    • Effective ad blocking

    Bad points
    • Must fend off attempts at upselling during purchase
    • Windows client interface could use some refinement
    • Purchase was set as a recurring payment
    • Cancellation process is tedious (more than two cancel operations required) or unclear
    • If the Internet drops out, kill-switch re-connection must be done manually (click retry) when using the default protocol
    • Foreign exchange fee incurred

The top 4 VPN's in the CHOICE magazine test were IVPN 87%, Mullvad 86 %, NordVPN 83%, Windscribe 82%, these four VPN's were the only VPN's "recommended" by CHOICE.

CHOICE members can leave their own reviews, the most popular and highest rated VPN by CHOICE members was ExpressVPN, mainly due to their support service.
    ExpressVPN was12th out of 29 VPN's with a rating of 76%.

    • Looks like it's time they updated their reviews as some of the bad points are no longer valid.

I'm not telling people to buy this vpn service, but it is useful for me as it is one of the very, very few VPNs which allowed me to access sites INSIDE China. Geo fencing for digital goods be damned.

  • These assholes show ads every time I start my PC. Do not pay them.

    • Disabling ads under Settings > General > "Keep me informed about special offers" strangely enough disables the ads.. otherwise like a lot of sites these days you're opted in by default.

      • Thanks! I already uninstalled this piece of software.

The websites that show me ads need to pay bills. I get it. The software that I paid for must not opt users into spam to survive.

        • you better uninstall windows too then in that case. And disconnect all your google home devices and cancel your gmail account.

          • @gizmomelb: I didn't pay for Windows. And didn't pay for Google accounts. So having ads there is fine

            • @alenpln: it's ok, I get it. clicking the mouse a couple of times is hard to deactivate ads.

              • @gizmomelb: It's not about clicking the mouse. It is how the vendor treats their clients. Apple does the same thing in a different way.

                • +1

@alenpln: @alecpin welcome to the (not even modern) world
